Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

I hate that the NBA is only thinking about the bottom line. All 8pm games to cater to the time zones; no weekend afternoon games.
Yea like 630 would be great today

Surprised at the low ratings in Game 1. This seems like an exciting matchup. Maybe fans are sick of the Celtics?

If Kidd is trying to turn to mind games, they must really feel desperate.

Thinking the same when I read that
When you don’t seem to have a game plan or the smarts to stop the opposing team
You try to turn to I am smart enough to try and win by turning the other team on each other
Pretty Lame

I see what you're trying to say here. But do you really think Dallas wouldn't improve if they added KP, Holliday, and White?

Besides getting significantly better defensively, it would change Luka as a player as he would have more people on the team he could trust to create their own shots and finish. To a lesser extent I think this has already happened with Tatum, and a similar thing happened to Jordan back in the day.
Dallas HAD KP and they weren't able to figure out how to integrate him properly.

Here’s some great reading…

2017: a pre-draft debate about Jayson Tatum. Very good analysis, these guys really know basketball. Kevin O’Connor loves the upside and ranks him #2. The other guys both rank him #9.

One of the analysts, Jonathan Tjarks, who is low on Tatum, links within his response an article he wrote on another prospect, an unheralded guy at Colorado named Derrick White.

Chau: This still boils down to a cost-benefit analysis, and our valuation of his scoring ability differs greatly. I’m not willing to place all my eggs in the "Jayson Tatum is an elite NBA scorer" basket when there are other players in his range who project to have elite potential in multiple disciplines.

Tjarks: The only guy in this draft whom I trust to be that guy at the next level is Markelle Fultz, and he’s going to be the no. 1 overall pick.

RIP dude. Sorry for my original intention of making a bad joke.

That one aged well. Career 3-pt average of 27 percent.

What annoyed me wasn’t so much the faceplant on Fultz (everyone failed there), but the general idea that teams should draft the guy with the highest floor, the fewest areas of concern, and basically just hope to get a probable impact player. That was O’Connell’s point, that you’re picking this high, these guys aren’t going to take you to the next level, and Tatum has the upside that these other players don’t have, so you should always pick a guy like Tatum.

Also the other two guys were putting way too emphasis on the here and now, the Celtics current lineup in 2017, which looks predictably very foolish 7 years later, when discussing a top pick who you want to be a long term star and not just a solid contributor.

Things have changed a lot since 2017. I think now teams are looking at players like Giannis (raw potential but little experience) or even Luka (huge boom or bust debate) and going with ceiling over floor. It’s taken Edwards and SGA some years to develop too. And of course Jokic.

Doncic downgraded to questionable for tonight’s game.
He was hobbling in middle of the 4th quarter after it looked like he tweaked his knee.
Either way he won’t be 100% but cannot take them lightly. We saw that in the playoffs this year where teams hung around or made a run. So let’s get a big lead and DO NOT let them back in the game.

Be prepared for a whole lot of limping around and grimacing if the Mavericks are losing

I wouldn't be surprised if he's no more hurt and sore than anyone else after playing a full season and full postseason, and this is a desperate attempt at gamesmanship.

It absolutely could be gamesmanship and we’ll find out quickly how healthy his knee is by making him defend right away.
There’s no denying he was hobbling a bit right after hurting his knee so put pressure on him from the tip.

ABC Headline: Luka Doncic (chest/ knee/ ankle) available tonight

What a ***** lol

Surprised they didn’t mention he only got 6 hours of sleep last night

What a hero!

Sportsbooks be like, "Yeah, and Tom Brady was really questionable all those years with that shoulder."

Luka wearing oversized medical tape over his entire upper torso during national anthem. Not joking.

Goddamn I hate these uniforms
