Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

I don't think that losing their starting center for most of the playoffs was a lucky break for the Celts. KP's a difference maker on both ends of the court.
Good point. Still, Butler, Mitchell, and Haliburton going down, Lillard and Giannis both injured to lose series, Brunson and half the Knicks injured, top 4 seeds in west taken out, overall this was extremely fortunate.

Hey @Real fan 02 where you at? You’ve been one of the guys here since the beginning, doesn’t seem right to not be around for the homestretch

That’s exactly what he’s trying to do, and really it’s sort of ****ty and pathetic
It’s so transparent too that it pretty much renders the attempt pathetic. If dozens of talking heads weren’t enough to motivate JT to launch 10+ contested threes a game, Jason Kidd isn’t going to be the one to do it.

Hey my man! I've been around. That 9 day lay off with the monotonous coverage on kyrie was a bit sickening .. however we had a great game 1.. I know Dallas will come back hard. Guys won't miss as much opportunities as they did game 1.. I'm confident but Dallas will likely get 1.. love KP off the bench

If Kidd is trying to turn to mind games, they must really feel desperate.

Yes but as a Jaylen doubter, I have to say he was probably their best player in Game 1. Maybe Porzingis…but I try not to be biased by shooting pct because it’s so up and down from game to game.

I’d like to see their record when Tatum and Brown combine for less than 40 shot attempts. It must be insane.

Here’s some great reading…

2017: a pre-draft debate about Jayson Tatum. Very good analysis, these guys really know basketball. Kevin O’Connor loves the upside and ranks him #2. The other guys both rank him #9.

One of the analysts, Jonathan Tjarks, who is low on Tatum, links within his response an article he wrote on another prospect, an unheralded guy at Colorado named Derrick White.

I agree. Simply speaking from Kidd’s perspective it’s clear he doesn’t believe what he’s saying. If he really thought that he’d be doubling and tripling Brown, not Tatum.

JT’s post season has not been flashy and questions remain about certain things but it seems clear to me that he is the cog in the machine when he’s playing unselfishly.

They are really trying to milk this series… 3+ days off before the next game?!?! Tatum needs to take care of the ball!

I think it’s great how selflessly Tatum has been playing, he’s looked to pass a ton and it’s one of those areas of growth we’ve talked about. But to your point, there were a few instances in game one where he was driving and could’ve finished and didn’t, and there were a couple of turnovers that resulted from that. Always room for improvement.

That’s the thing, because Tatum has been visible for so long now, we sometimes forget he’s just 26. I would say he is just now beginning to enter his prime and the best is still to come.

Especially if he wins a championship. That does wonders for a players confidence. Over the biggest hurdle.

The great thing about Tatum is he’s a guy you can build a great team around.

Imagine if Dallas got Porzingis (well they already did), Holiday, White, etc. Would it improve the team? Not by much. Ball still runs through Luka at all times.

LeBron adding Kyrie, prime Love, Wade, Bosh, Davis etc was successful in some ways but also the teams were usually only a little better than having LeBron and four stooges.

There are lot of star players. Many of them are good at improving the team’s floor but they don’t always make strong supporting casts much better. Harden and Westbrook come to mind.

Tatum is a little closer to Pippen than Jordan, and that’s fine, and actually better for this team’s composition.

I see what you're trying to say here. But do you really think Dallas wouldn't improve if they added KP, Holliday, and White?

Besides getting significantly better defensively, it would change Luka as a player as he would have more people on the team he could trust to create their own shots and finish. To a lesser extent I think this has already happened with Tatum, and a similar thing happened to Jordan back in the day.

True, and let's hope that the good luck stays with them.

I might have been a little sensitive about the luck comment after listening to one talking head after another throw that into the discussion every time I wandered over to watch them, while at the same time barely giving the Porzingis loss a mention.

With the additions they made and the development of the rest I'm far more confident in this team than ever. The kids have grown up and the team has a pretty potent offense and defense.

Those were great. Thanks.

I was surprised at how accurate they were. They pretty much called it as it is before it was.

I hate that the NBA is only thinking about the bottom line. All 8pm games to cater to the time zones; no weekend afternoon games.
