Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Nah, can't go there yet. I still see C's in Finals and Wolves are likely to be there. I can't count out Denver until they're out but it depends on how healthy Murray is.
The playoffs is all about defense and rebounding every possession matters. We have been great all season 64 wins! I'll never loose faith in my team. However we loose Saturday then it looks bleak. We are clearly seeing the loss of KP. Keeping in mind if we do get by cavs.. Knicks will be waiting for us.

Murray isn't healthy he's probably the best PG in the NBA he is dealing with a calf injury, and Denvers bench has underwhelmed. They are giving the wolves the game taking nothing away from the wolves, they are just locked in.

However the WCF wolves and OKC will be an excellent series. OKC is deeper than they are.

Watching this team there are too many times I get the impression they are playing with their food. That is, it comes off as though they feel they can just turn it on at any time. Right up to the moment they can't. But then I have to consider this isn't the same league we came of age following, where it was full on cutthroat every moment. These players have more playoff games to get through and seem able to just readily accept that they're going to have bad nights. Despite our possibly out of date expectations, maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, it's a brave new world we live in my friend

Play with your food long enough it will spoil, make you sick and you miss dessert. I don't know if it's a "brave new world" as much as things regressing via permissiveness/indulgence/coddling to where timeworn truths must be relearned the hard way. Some things remain constant.

The Celtics checked out in the second half last night for no good reason vs. extending themselves to put down a determined but inferior opponent. Hopefully it doesn't end up biting them in the ass. Playoffs is a different animal, one you don't trifle with.

Agreed

In the east I think the talent disparity is great enough where it won't matter and the Celtics will get to the finals. And I think they'll be seen as underdogs in the finals at this point, so they won't have the issue of taking teams lightly

I'm feeling strangely optimistic this morning, kind of odd after last night I must admit

Cs need to make it tough on scoring guards it's been thier issue all season. This isn't new the same things we witnessed in the post season we've witnessed in the regular season. It's like it's no resistance to allow scoring guards in the paint and free jumpers. We blow teams out by 25 then loose by double digits. In the 90s and early 2000s the 1st round was a 5 game series. I feel optimistic too never counting them out they are the 1 seed for a reason.

Knicks will be rested and waiting. Feels like it's their year.
Knicks are an incredibly overrated team. The entire NBA fanbase should be rooting for the Celtics to see two powerhouse teams and not another weak ass Miami Heat type team getting pulverized by the west champ.

You mean like the 'weak ass Miami Heat type team' that sent our boys packing last year?
If a team is no better than its last game then right now the B's & C's both suck. Subject to change without notice of course

Celtics don't have an Alpha who identifies trouble, then takes over the game and wills the team to victory. Our two "best" players are wingmen.

Jason Tatum's too cool for school bearing postgame was telltale, essentially saying you can't win 'em all. No real sense of urgency, pride or embarrassment over getting blown out at home.

Too early to panic. Playoffs have momentum swings.
Let's see what happens tomorrow night.

I'm not panicking. The Jays body of work speaks for itself.

Great ending to the Pacers Knicks game, good for that one to go long no matter who wins

And nice counterpunch from Denver. Fascinating series. Minnesota still has the edge I think unless Denver wins the next two

Hard fought win on the backs of Brown & Tatum w/Jrue having probably his best game as a Celtic. JT is still taking some real iffy shots but he worked hard tonight without a doubt. Won't get talked about but a shout out to Pritchard for that huge three pointer from near the logo to smother the Cavs momentum in the fourth.

The "Celtics are better without Jaylen Brown!" take has been aging like milk.

At the risk of nitpicking, they really don't. Other than the first round going from a 5 game series to a 7 game series, the number of playoff games hasn't changed in 40+ years.

He played tough and with a purpose. If he can play like the rest of the way that they'll win the whole damn thing. Shot selection and clutch are still his growth areas but it is what it is

It was always a poor narrative this year.

I think the argument was that Hauser should start in place of Brown because of plus/minuses. Watching Hauser guarding D Mitchell is a disaster. Anyone that thinks Hauser should start in place of Brown has no concept of defense.

It's a mentality.. players have to have it in them.. I like the angry Tatum that showed up last night, d white came back down to earth.. Holiday finally contributed offensively.. the Js showed up last night and took a nice road win..

I’m honestly okay with some of his mid range fade aways because he actually hits those a decent amount. It’s the wild step back threes that just aren’t working. I think he had a lot of success with it earlier in his career and he badly wants that shot back in his bag but it just isn’t happening.

He did a lot more driving to the rim last night which was great to see.

Which is more than some of us fossils came of age watching

Hauser had a really difficult time out there. Even Pritchard had a play where he absolutely locked Mitchell down at the three point line.

Pritchard is OK defending shorter guards. Switching on the bigs is an issue.
