Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Yes I get that's its the celtics I realize what forum I'm on.. ok we were top 5 last season defensively as well.. we could score against Miami and could not stop thier shooters.. I'm confused on exactly what you're trying to say.. or maybe we are agreeing but confusing what each other's trying to say..
C's are better defensively this year. That is why Porz and Holiday are here.

Spot on! As you have seen my post and various conversations.. I've mentioned the jacking up 3s.. Muzzulla tends to use the 3 points shots metrics.. when they are on great, when they aren't it's ugly. I personally feel they are going to need to use defense to create offense. Cleveland is a big team in the paint and lanes won't be there for the Js.. the have had a week off.. the lt are restes and hopefully will be in rhythm..
It's no tragedy if they're a little rusty in the first quarter or half, if the defensive intensity is there it will make up for any lack of rhythm and flow on offense

Now we are talking.. defense, defense, defense.. Is what makes champions in the playoffs.. I've come to realize that is going to have to fuel our offense. Defense is what travels.. a jump shot can be off for a game or 2. Rebounding, offensive and defensive as well. The NBA season is a grind pretty much survival of the fittest. Agreed with you 100%

Porzingis isn’t here because he’s a renowned defender. He is good enough on that end but certain matchups can be unfavorable for him. Horford and Rob Williams (in his prime) were clearly superior instead we went for a star player who can spread the floor and provide great offense.

I don’t think he’s regarded as a tough defender by any stretch.

Gotta play strong perimeter defense, can’t revert back to that Game 2 D. Only way we lose these games.

Porzingas was 9th in the league for blocks per game at 1.9 but he didn't show on the official stats because he only played in 57 games. At 1.9 blocks per game, he led the Celtics. Derrick White was next at 1.6 blocks per game.

That's defense.

He’s a good rim protector for sure. Maybe I’m wrong overall on it, I always saw him as solid defender just not that it really defined his game or was the reason the Celtics traded for him.

JB/DWhite dominated. More than compensated for Tatum’s shooting struggles tonight.

Missed the 1st half but what an awesome 3rd qtr. on both sides of the ball.
Tatum,Brown,White and Holiday are all elite defenders.
Tatum,Brown and White are elite offensively as well, while Holiday is very good offensively.
They bring it like this nobody is stopping them

Good minutes from Luke tonight. I realize there’s no Jarrett Allen but still good stuff from the third big while KP is out.

Did I say he was known as a tough defender?

Cs needed a big guy to challenge the rim. KP blocks 2 shots a game. Didn't have that last year consistently.

Brown is playing the best ball of his life.

Easily. He's one of the best onball defenders in the nba now. That took a lot of work and effort to be.
He's way more unselfish and smarter than he was.
I was down on him early in the season,
deservedly so. I said he needed to take a long cold hard look at himself in the mirror and do some serious self-evaluation.
He obviously did that.
Gotta give him credit as it's not easy for an 8yr vet with star power to make big adjustments to his game.
He's one of the reasons I have big confidence in this team- more than any squad since the last Championship

Absolutely agree with you. The east conference is not the celtics problem. We should get to the finals. Likely it will be against a tough Knicks team that handled us in the last regular season game we played against them. The west is where I believe we will have issues.. however your correct brown has developed into one of the best complete players in the league.

What a game for Jaylen Brown. This is what Brown driving to the hoop gets them. I'm just glad the refs didn't swallow their whistles last night. There was a lot more contact in the Heat series with a lot less fouls. I guess that what happens when the other team doesn't have someone named Bam.

Watching Tatum, you almost have to wonder if that ankle he turned against the Heat isn't bothering him. His shooting was uncharacteristically bad.

I still don't get why Mazzulla won't let Kornet take a jump shot when he's open. He was wide open on one play and he wouldn't even look at the hoop. With KP out, they could use Kornet taking those open shots. I like that he's become a great defender at the rim but the guy can shoot. Maybe his long range jumper is history?

I've asked the same questions myself. Like Rob Williams he had a nice soft jumper around the rim..but it's like Muzzulla didn't allow him to go to it more. Tatum at warm-ups last night when he was running out looked like he was dealing with something..

Good win last night. Now they need to do it again on Thursday. This is one of those series that shouldn't be exciting

Celtics need the energy he provides, the aggressiveness, driving to the rim, making an impact early, playing tough defense, consistent scoring.

He doesn’t take the bad shots, he picks his three point attempts carefully and passes it away or drives. He’s been careful with the ball and the sloppy eye roll turnovers are not prevalent anymore. He could easily have taken that money and been content with his game. But he’s not, he works to improve every year and he’s at his best now.

Agreed. The Celts need his defense. His block on Mitchell was a statement. Brown will get better as well.
