Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Wish I had more time to watch the games (even a dvr takes me an hour). Good to see Pritch get his 3P% up from 15% to 32%.

One thing I’ve been noticing is that Brown & Tatum seem to meshing very well with the new roster. Better than they did with previous teammates. Everyone seems to know their role on the court which is helping those two.

Brown has a very good two man game with KP which I wasn’t expecting as I thought that would be more of a KP/Tatum thing. And you can see that he and Tatum also really like Hauser too just based off body language and excitement for him to make plays and give him the chance to do so. Case in point was Brown tossing up an alley oop to Hauser when he could have easily scored on his own with the two on one.

Both guys look more comfortable with the new set up. You don’t have role players or lesser starters looking to “get theirs” all the time.

Meaning to spell KP when he goes to the bench. I'd like to see him and Al on the floor together sometimes. It's a long season And a grind.
I'd like Al's minutes to go down a bit. I know hes only playing 25min a night but at 37 it'll add up in May/June. Dude turns 38 in early June I think

Agreed. That's what I like the depth we have.. it's a long grind. This team is a veteran team. Even at 26,and 27 tatum and brown need to be managed as well. Al has been such a remarkable leader for this team.

I'd like jrue to look for his shot more. He's a very save scorer. He seems to defer to much to the other guys. I would like him to look for his shot more.

Jrue has the lowest FG% of the top 6 players. Last night he was 1-8.

25min a night includes only the games he plays. Al rests on back-to-backs. If you include all games, including his rest games, Al is playing about 20 mintues a night. I think that is OK - they are using Al correctly IMO.

He has been struggling overall on offense the past several games. Hopefully it’s just a blip on the radar. I’m not expecting him to be excellent on that end but there’s been some careless plays for a player who we expected to be the steady guy who makes all the right plays.

He was doing better early on.

That's why I said he should look to be more aggressive than he's been. That only makes them more potent. He was early on,but now I think he's deferring to much even when he has open looks. Jrue is a scorer as well as a distributor.

Jrue is an automatic 20 ppg player in the league. He's deferring more than he was early on. I'm sure Muzzulla is going to have to make that adjustment. Jrue being the attack as well as ball distribution is going to make the celtics unstoppable. When he attacks they drop 155 like they did against pacers. When he doesn't they get in dog fights with teams like the last few games.

25min for a 37yo is high to me. We're talking 1987 KAJ here...who was rare.

Brown had a great game. Best Celtic on the floor, no question.
Tatum was also superb despite being sick.
Porzingis was good.
Jrue and DWhite( 8 turnovers yikes!)were bad. But I l9ve both those guys. Very unchacteristic game for DWhite, btw, what a great move by Stevens getting Derrick.

Jaylen Brown: 10 of 16 shooting, 3-5 3pt,
8 assists 1 turnover YAY! Only 1 PF
So 1 great NBA all-star game preceded by 2 of the worst games by a Celic starter in history!
Jekyll and Hyde. Games like Brown had last night both give you hope and piss you off at the same time.
But folks, take a page from @RobertWeathers and realize we're very early in a season with 2 brand new starters and chemistry takes time, both on and off the court. It's going to take most guys to find their groove as well as the team, both on and off the court.
For all the handwringing here, Celtics won
the game vs.
the mighty Bucks. Just look at the chemistry issues they are having with 2 of the best players in the league.
I dont know how Brown will end up this year. But heres sonething to give everyone hope: The additions of Porzingis and Jrue make the odds of Brown being the player we all want him to be much much greater than last season.
They are both far superior players to Smart and G.Williams and very unselfish.
I have to believe Brown will gradually improve over the season. And if he doesn't, I trust Stevens to do whatever is necessary to keep this team focused on winning the belt.
A little patience is in order. They have the best record in the league and they've beaten most of the top teams they've played. So blowing the big leads late in games a little concerning, but it's early, they'll figure it out. Its a long season.
They're mostly fun to watch.
Ask yourselves this: is there another team in the nba you'd swap their entire roster for?
Didn't think so.
Happy Thanksgiving

I love Jrue but he is 33 so we can not expect too much.

No idea what you mean. 1 for 8 is not a scorer. Maybe you are confused?

Right but being 33 has nothing to do with making smart plays on the court.

He is a smart player. Not a scorer, or at least not a scorer so far as a Celtic. Great defender. I like him a lot more than M Smart but don't confuse that with wanting Holiday to isolate more on offense. So far this season Holiday has the lowest shooting % on offense for our top 7 players.

This is why I was saying I’d like to know what a typical slump looks like for him. His defense is still outstanding and he seems to be in the right spots, so I don’t know if it’s age or just a bad stretch but age 33 is a red flag.

Maybe your getting what im saying misunderstood. Have you watched jrue last season? Did u watch him during the 2021 championship run? Yesh he was 1-8. However he is a good scorer in this league and he plays steady and under control. The point I'm making is whenever he's been more aggressive it makes the team better.

Exactly. If you look at last season at peak times he was the offense for Milwaukee. Now I know he has plenty or options at his disposal and he's even mentioned that. However I've noticed whenever he's been aggressive meaning on the attack it makes every one else better. He's always been steady eddy. But your right he's 33 and I don't believe personally it's any red flags. He's still deferring a bit much to JB,KPand JT. He can hold his own offensively.
