Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

The Hornets have a special skill, they can make Brissett look OK.

Ehhhh…rough loss but not surprising with that travel schedule.

He really needed to jack this up to cap off his 5/17 **** show. Team would be 14-0 or 13-1 without him.

He’s now below Pritchard.

Keep telling me I’m just a hater and don’t know basketball.

The pass to Porzingis was the obvious play there

Is it me, or does Brown seem to lack quickness and movement? I might be starting to see him through your eyes too much and so I'm seeing him too negatively but I just feel like he can't adjust and move quickly, he seems like he's in a lethargic trance. But I'm not sure if that's actually true

Yes, this is why I say that once you see it there’s no unseeing it. It has become clearer this season because there are no longer the excuses of lack of options.

The Celtics are 9 points better per 100 possessions without Jaylen Brown.

He hasn't lost any quickness. It just looks that way because he doesn't seem to know what to do. Players in any sport always play slower if they don't grasp the scheme. Like you said, sometimes he's in a lethargic trance. I think it's because he's not sure how to fit in to the scheme at times.
If that's the reason, it's pretty mind-boggling in a bad way. Or maybe he got strung out on weed?
If there's an injury we don't know of, I dont think Mazzula would have him out there.
But after he had shown some improvement previously, the last 2 games he was horrible. Really horrible.

People are in a manic depressive cycle with Brown. When he makes his shots and scores 25 on a high shooting pct, they are relieved, then he has a game like last night. He is the same player in both games, doing the exact same things. That the ball sometimes goes in more and sometimes less is just normal variation. The problem is that he is, at his core, not a good player, and even when he does score his points he rarely plays a “solid game.” He has to be spectacular offensively to cover for all his flaws…even then his ceiling is not that high.

But his floor is very, very low - due to his and the team’s belief that he’s a star player who needs the ball all the time - which is why I think demoting him is best for the team.

Let’s take an example: Hauser was 1-9 last night. That’s about the worst possible outcome for him, but the damage is limited. He’s taking 3s in the flow of the offense. A bad game for Brown is missing 15+ shots, turning the ball over, killing the ball control with selfishness/low Bball IQ, garbage defense. Guys like White, Holiday, and KP may have a bad game with a 3/12 line while still creating shots for others and playing high level defense.

Jaylen Brown is a 45% FG, 35% 3 PT, 70% FT shooter. He’s a shooting specialist who shoots below average. That problem cannot be fixed and temporary spikes are just illusions.

I said it at beginning of the season and reiterate: Brown will not win the Celtics games, but he will lose them.

He’s a great athlete, a very solid, energy-bringing fringe starter or role player. He’s a highlight reel guy but not a great basketball player. His high playing time is now on Mazulla. I have no doubt the Celtics are really concerned and also review the on court/off court numbers nightly.

Yeah I'm beginning to think his minutes need to be cut way down.
The last 2 games were atrocious. Maybe the worst play I've seen from a C's starter in many, many years.
He basically lost the game last night.
Its reached the point that its a problem.
Don't want to derail this train.

LeBron is going balls to the wall in hopes of winning this phantom tournament so he can make some lame-o claim to being the GOAT. He doesn’t have many opportunities left and I don’t think they’re good enough to come out of the west. Lakers are 4-0 in NBA Cup and outscored opponents by 18.5 points.

God I’d love to see the Celtics, or actually any team, kick them in the nuts.

Almost every superstar athlete, I either appreciate, or learn to appreciate, or begrudgingly respect even if he beats my team. I just hate LeBron and will never like him. I can’t wait for him to retire and won’t miss him. To me he just represents an ugly way to play basketball like he’s playing the wrong sport but is so physically dominant it doesn’t matter. Brute force style. Flopping. Always *****ing and moaning. Never makes teammates better. Started the Superteam trend and then his stans cry about Durant. Ugly face. Just all ugliness.

I’ve been watching games with the NBA League Pass. The league is entering into a great era as it rids itself of LeBron. Teams play so much tighter, better passing, more effort, less complaining, less flopping, less iso. Stars are likeable and generally good team players. So much different from how it was 10 years, 20 years ago. A lot of credit to the Warriors and Steph Curry for changing the image and direction of the league…not just the 3 point revolution but the off ball movement, spacing, etc. The court no longer feels clogged up like it did for years and they discussed lengthening it.

This was some serious ********. Without trying to blame the loss on the refs, teams have protested games over less. It was obvious to everyone that the home clock-keeper ran that time off and shocking that the refs didn’t adjust it.

The minutes absolutely need to be cut down or only give him the ball in areas of the floor in which his shooting % is respectable

Interesting chart. What's weird is in the spots where his fg% is highest, he takes the ?least amount of shots!?! WTF!!
How can an 8yr vet not know his own strengths?

Not sure. This is where Mazz needs to coach him up.

I remember reading an article after when LeBron joined the Heat. Eric Spolestra came up the ranks as a film guy/stats geek. He showed LeBron a shot chart for his entire career up to that point similar to what I posted. In addition to his shooting % for each area of the floor, he showed him % when he catches the ball coming from his right, left, how many dribbles, off screens, etc. He also showed him how is shooting % improved the more assists per night he had. LeBron had never seen this kind of info before and was appreciative (even bubble head LeBron) Spolestra was trying to make him a better, more efficient player.

I have no idea if they have done that with Brown but they need to do something to make him more efficient out there.

I know that Tatum has done this as he came into the league as a mid range guy. I remember one offseason (year 3, I think) there was an article that he was working on layups and 3s only to increase his efficiency, like a lot of the league was doing. And his game now is just right…he does have an awesome midrange game when needed in desperate spots but rarely seeks it out.

Anyway every NBA team and player is aware of these types of things now, but you’d think especially a shooting specialist would be.

Brown should be taking 12-15 shots a game. He is good on backdoor cuts, transition fast break points, and driving to the basket when there’s no help d. If he limited his shots to those and open attempts (not defended) he would be efficient and average 15-20 points with a high shooting pct, which would make him not as much of an overall liability.

His free throw pct annoys the **** out of me. He’s a smaller framed shooting guard who struggles with almost every other aspect of the game besides shooting and he’s a sub-70% ft shooter.

He was questionable/illness.
