Cameron Heyward vs. Ron Brace

You are right. We drafted a 330 player who was the slowest player in the entire draft to play DE when our #1 issue was the possibility that Wilfork might leave.
What we choose to believe then or now has no bearing on what Bill was thinking.
-- True, a 330 lb plugger might be Wilfork insurance, but the technique and work ethic issues which plagued his rookie season were undoubtedly known before his draft.
-- We also see the contract NE gave Wilfork after he set an example and quietly played out his rookie deal: nothing fancy, do your job and get paid, speaks to how they thought of Vince.
-- NE bet the bank on Vince in 2009 when they traded Seymour, I don't think they ever had any thought to letting him get away, they used Sey and Vince to send a message (hello Mankins), it now appears Brace was coincidental, and not a factor in the process.

In the Bowl game vs. Arkansas, which I just happened to see this week, Heyward looked like the next coming of Richard Seymour. However, in too many of his other games this year he looked like Ron Brace. So I guess it's just a question of which Heyward the coaching staff thinks they'll get.

There was a pretty good interview with Heyward out yesterday...sounds the part, I'll try to re-find and post the link. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Cameron-Heyward-QA.html

Brace looks like a guy who can shut down the run game with a little more experience in diagnosing and technique. I admit I like him more than most, but I think that if he was a fourth rounder and not a second, most of us would be happy. He seemed to turn a corner last year.

Heyward...sigh....could be a dominant 3-4 end if properly motivated, but the elbow scares me more than the mental makeup. I don't know what the history of Tommy John surgery is on NFL linemen, but holding off a double team while trying to maintain your ground is a lot more stressful on the joint than lifting weights.

Cameron Jordan is growing on me (as is Jordan Cameron). While not a traditional 2-gap DE, I think BB could find lots of ways to utilize his quickness. To me, though, there's Dareus and there's everyone else. But if he were at 17 and the trade down market was soft, I'd be OK taking Jordan.
