Butler visiting Saints

The 32nd pick? **** that ********.
I think that's fair value for a trade if the precondition of the trade is that you're going to have to pay him $14 million/year.

Basically, the Patriots would rather pay a, say, Christian McCaffrey on a rookie deal than Butler with the big deal he's looking for.

Well this sucks, should keep him.

It's a good deal for the saints. That's for sure. A 32 for a solid corner and still keep number 11 and that 3rd rounder

I'd only be happy with either 11, or 32 and 42. But I know now that isn't going to happen... So no matter what I won't be happy with this at all.

You really think so? Butler's a corner hovering out of the top 10 but he's a solid corner and they give up only number 32. That's a good trade for the saints.

Number 32 for butler would be good for the saints. Still keep number 11 and still have thag 3rd rounder from the pats. They building that defense up. A team we will face this year.

You've now taken three, at least, positions on this in this thread alone.

First, you want to keep him no matter what, he's a top-15 corner.
Second, You want to trade him for 32 and a third rounder.
Now, it's just 32.

Is he like, playing somewhere right now to make him change your opinion so much?

You gotta think that maybe Jimmy could be getting franchised if they don't want to play Butler out and franchise and trade him next offseason. It's a possibility that comes to mind at least...We are passing on keeping Butler for 3.9 mill...

Saints just signed okafor to a one year 3M deal today...So there is even less cap space

**** a 2nd round pick, even #32 would be an underpay.

This is absolutely true.

The point is, now, the starting point would be the 11th pick, and that's just assuming the Patriots don't match whatever the offer is.

Simply sending back #32 doesn't get it done.

Million Dollar Man Tom Kiley should have had Butler sign his tender. There are lots of eventualities for Butler, but they are getting less and less lucrative, and less and less beneficial for every second the Super Agent drags this on.

It could all still work out for him, but being traded 1 for 1 for Cooks, and signing a fat contract with the Saints, is looking like it was best-case scenario.

Saints are in a really tough spot. Sure, they could try to work out a trade, but if it all comes down to an offer sheet - do you offer a top-of-the-market UFA-type contract? Or do you offer something like 4/40? And if they do offer 4/40, who's to say the Patriots won't match that?

Which is better value?

1 year of MB at 3.9 million per year or

Pick #32 on a rookie contract.

If going all in for 1 more SB..its clearly MB (unless he is so pissed off he does not play well). MB would have HUGE incentive to play great this year for Pats even if he is upset with RFA so he could cash in next year. Personally I would take this option

Over the long term its clearly pick 32, if BB is reasonably certain he can get a starter at that pick.

So why would Bill accept pick #32 when he's entitled to pick #11? Don't know what the trade chart says but maybe 32 + 42 + 2018 2nd may equal pick 11

Because NO isn't going to make Butler an tender offer. #11 isn't on the table.

I have no idea how this will end but I'm prepared to be disappointed based on other deals with players nearing the end of their contracts. Collins obviously but also Jones, although that worked out well we only got a late #2 for him.

and get the 12th for Jimmy?? Or the 1 and 12? Yeah baby.
OK Cousins. The Browns want in?. How about Jimmy G and Butler for the Browns first pick this year, Browns #33 in the second round and their first pick and second next year. Would you do it?

The Browns know it will take two #1's for Jimmy which they are reluctant to do. But it will also take a first rounder for Butler. Good deal for both Teams.

Perhaps this as an alternative; Browns #1 in 2017 and 2018 and Joe Haden for Jimmy G and Malcom? Haden just finished groin surgery and has been playing hurt past two years. Still an All Pro resume.

2017

27 $11,100,000 $3,200,000 - $100,000 - $14,400,000 $10,400,000
2018 28 $11,100,000 $3,200,000 - $100,000 - $14,400,000 $3,200,000
2019 29 $10,400,000

Huge win for the saints. I wonder if bill will look at another corner in free agency

So, people doubted that a team would pay Butler and give up a first round pick.

Clearly a lot of us here like Butler. I absolutely do not want him to go anywhere. I know the 32nd back and maybe another later round pick is probably fair, just sucks. The 2 players I really really want to keep is High and Butler. Ugh.

It's all down to BB judgement and what he thinks he can get.. I think there's more to this trade than we think. Butler is worth more than a 32. BB will not get fleeced he's been in the business more years than I've been alive. He's got a plan
