Butler visiting Saints

I really want Butler back....would be a great corner tandem... I can understand the financial consequences though, but really wish Butler would be with us another year.

Ya I hope he stays for sure. P

I could see 32, and 42 for Butler, and the late 3rd

Understand this, the #11 overall pick is not in play here.

I'm 98% sure BB and Payton had a handshake deal, the trade was Butler for Cooks. We get 32 back or maybe their 2nd and something.

The 32nd pick? **** that ********.

Is it even legal to make an offer to a restricted FA after the tender deadline? Me thinks not.

You thinks wrong. An RFA has until 21 April to sign an offer sheet from another team. So obviously teams can make offers to RFAs until then.

Saints aren't giving up the no 11 and a huge contract. I also don't think its a slam dunk that NO gives up 32.

I would rather have the 2nd and 3rd round picks than the 1st anyway. Gives us more flexibility to move around. NO have the number 42 pick.
No way, Jose. I'd rather just get another year out of Butler.

I rather get somethijng

Quantity. I rather have 32 and that 3rd rounder.

NO has $9,000,000 in cap space right now. That will mean some major restructuring or cutting players if they give Butler a Gilmore deal, which is what he wants.

CBA has info on Restricted Free Agency in Article 9, Section 2.

I'm reading this as follows:
1) Butler can only negotiate with another team up to 5 days prior to the draft. No one other than the Patriots can sign him after that point. The league and players have the option to extend that to a later date, but I'm not aware of that having happened; if it did happen, if he were signed to an offer sheet two days prior to the draft (or any time afterwards), the draft pick would be in 2018 instead of 2017.

2) If a team doesn't have a 1st round draft pick, they can't attempt to sign Butler.

3) In my previous post where I identified a "wink-wink" agreement between the Saints and Patriots? They have to tread carefully. Trades are allowed only if the player and NFLPA allows it, but there is supposed to be "no consideration" given between clubs for the decision to extend/not extend an offer sheet and to match/not match the offer sheets. Given it's the Pats and Saints, Goodell has to be salivating here.... Regardless of the above, if anyone makes an offer and the Patriots match, the Patriots cannot trade Butler to that team for a one year period.

4) Pats can't trade their first refusal rights. I never thought of that one....

5) Saints can't do a bait-and-switch, signing Butler to an offer sheet the Pats don't match and then immediately renegotiating. Have to wait a year for that. If the Pats match, there isn't an explicit similar restriction on their side.

Well this sucks, should keep him.

Number 32 for butler would be good for the saints. Still keep number 11 and still have thag 3rd rounder from the pats. They building that defense up. A team we will face this year.

Maybe a pick, and a player coming back for Butler, to clear cap room?

Saints only have about 15 mil cap space (51 players) or 9mil (all players ), from what I see.....
Cant imagine they give up the 11th
|Only a wink deal for the 32nd, cap is tight though

When is the draft? I was responding to someone who wanted to sign him the 25th of April and give up a pick next year. So technically if April 21 is the deadline, I was right lol.

How are you 98% sure of this?
