Broncos sign Marquice Cole

Is it me, or do the Pats lead the league in teams signing their former players in the week before their matchup?

Championship

Is it okay if I argue vehemently that Cole has tarnished is accomplishments with the Patriots and has stabbed the organization in the back?

I'm willing to push the thread to 12 pages, if necessary.

As much as I see find what you wrote humorous what Branch did and Cole is doing are very, very different. Cole just turned 30 years old, he played 27 games for the Patriots mainly on special teams, his career earnings amount to under $2 million in his NFL career, and he has never won a super bowl. He also played 13 games this season, participated in OTAs, training camp and preseason. He did not latch on to a team for the first time in the playoffs against a team that drafted him and he was a member of for 7 season, participating in 3 super bowls, winning 2 and also Branch earned $45 million plus in his NFL career.

Actually DI has the right take on this. Given what's available at this time Cole is a good signing. And while he was never a great pass defender, he had his moments, and is a good special teamer. Don't underestimate that role. We don't know what Special teams roles Harris played for the Donkeys.

Also compared to what Branch might have had to offer, Cole's knowledge of the Pats D might actually be of some limited use. For example who's healthy or not. plus calls and signals the Pats use to communicate. etc

In the end, they got a decent special teamer, a decent #6 CB, and possibly some info that might help. Sounds like a win to me.....and anyone else with half a brain. It was a solid depth transaction that is very unlikely to have any effect on the results of the game.

BTW- don't forget that "minor transactions don't always turn out that way. According to Rotoworld, when the Pats signed him, they labeled him a likely game day inactive. When we signed Siliga they described him as a depth move caused by all the injuries. Where would we be without those 2 guys now

I would absolutely love to see him on the field as a CB in this game. After watching him abjectly fail at coverage over and over again, seeing him do the same for the Broncos would be a welcome relief.

Cole toasted in AFC Championship games two years in a row? Truth is stranger than fiction.

Was he on the roster for the Denver game? Probably signed to give intel on Belichick's thinking vs Manning

I'm so happy someone signed this guy. One of my biggest fears was that we would resign him. Nightmare averted.

not as good as having Mcdaniels up in the booth for the game two years ago, even though he had a year in between with the Rams

Yes, he played and had one tackle against DEN in week 12. I bet the fact he's played for NE didn't hurt with their want to sign him. I'm sure Belichick will do something different this time than last against Manning.

Denver fans think this is crafty coaching and a real slick signing, giving them inside insight and some kind of an advantage.

LOL

Hopefully he shares some great coverage tips with them.

Definitely. And Cole might have guaranteed himself at least an AFC championship ring now.

Have they named him a captain yet?

I don't think the majority of Bronco fans think this is "crafty coaching" and a "real slick signing" in regards to gaining insight into the Pats playbook/system. Rather more along the lines of he has practiced against their receivers and has some familiarity with their tendencies and if is called upon, can play a few snaps.

What if he's an agent provocateur?

Giselle is going to accuse Tom of watching porn vs game film on the laptop when he reads this.

There's upside for him in this.

If an AFC team wins the SB, he has a good chance of getting a ring (assuming the Pats would get him one as he was a member of the team this year).
