Am I right that this is not solely the network's decision?

If so, the NFL better come down heavily on the side of FAIRNESS for every team.

The main reason I think NBC won't chose the Jets-Phins is because the Patriots will be favored at Buffalo, and the night game might end up being a flop for a deflated Jets team.

Yeah they probably will .. found that they need to give 6 days notice .. so tomorrow at the latest I guess... it would be bad for the Pats if the Jets/Phins game gets moved but I wont automatically say Jets tank.. Mangini would be fighting for a job, as much as I dislike Favre he isnt a guy to throw in the towel, the Jets and Dolphins hate each other too and no way do they want to see Pennington leave for the Phins then win the AFC East with them.. so I still feel ok if for some reason they get moved.. it isnt my first choice obviously.. but the NFL isnt awarding the Phins the division, just moving when they play

Falcons clinched a playoff spot today with their win over the Vikings.

Great turnaround for them this season.

NBC just promo'd Chargers-Broncos for next Sunday night. Does that mean that Jets-Dolphins is staying at 1:00, or will they move that to 4:15?

Broncos @ Chargers flexed for Week 17 SNF

Good thing because now the Jets won't have an opportunity to tank to the Dolphins intentionally if they know their playoff fate ahead of time. Now they have to play at the same time as the Patriots and Ravens.

There is NO WAY the league could have allowed it to be the Jest game, it would have f*cked up the competitive balance too much. Maybe they couldn't stop it but I'm sure they would have let NBC know they'd better not do it.

That's good for us. But they could still put the Jets at 4.

In a peripheral way, a Denver Bronco victory gets the Pats the 44th pick in the '09 draft while a Charger victory means that it's the 52nd or lower because they would make the playoffs and it would be the 20th highest of the round at best if I'm reading this right.
(Jacob Hester trade on draft day- Pats '08 3rd rounder to SD (Hester)for SD's 2nd rounder in '09)

Generally agree with you but there is the opportunity for a quid pro quo. Several Jets players get mysterious injuries just before kickoff. Favre comes down with whiplash thinking about retirement, Jenkins contracts SARS (Saggy Abdominals Requiring Surgery), the splinters in Gholston's arse become infected, etc. Maybe for a favor to be named later?

Don't think this stuff happens with division rivals? Ask fans of the Browns (if you can find any left).

Given the relations between the NYJ and the HCNEP, a Jets loss would raise doubts about whether a critcal league game is on the up-n-up. I would think the league would want to avoid the hassle. If you move the NYJ/MIA game to 4pm because of TV, move the Pats game to 4pm as well. Problem solved and you have no chance of a 4pm national game dud.

I would want it fair but its hard to watch the pats and root for the other teams, its been crazy the last 2 weeks..
