Daboll *hates* McDermott. Like, viscerally.
gee I wonder why? Maybe it was McDermott calling him out and throwing him under the bus after one of their inevitable playoff flame outs?

edit: it wasn't a playoff game - it was the Pats @ Buffalo wind game in 2021...

Was Mahomes 15 Seconds on Brady or Daboll's watch??

The only thing he's qualified for is to train Patriots' staff members on how to properly rush players back from traumatic brain injuries for the betterment of the team.

I'd welcome him back in this limited capacity.

BB recommended Dabol to the Giants for HC job.
Nuff said
Except, BB has 6 Lombardi's as a HC and 2 for the NY Giants as a DC.

At the minimum, NY would have a defense with BB unlike the 27th ranked NY defense right now. The Corky Mac Jones led 49ers would not roll into NJ and hang 34 points on the BB Giants no friggin way, no how. The 2 - 8 Giants are staring at 2 - 11 with GB, Detroit and NE next up. A top 5 2026 draft slot is looking better every week.

Every 5 years or so the Giants get pretty good.

2027 - ???
2022 - 9 - 7 lost Div
2016 - 11 - 5 lost WC
2011 - 9 - 7 Won SB
2007 - 10 - 6 Won SB
2002 - 10 - 6 lost WC

One thing I've never understood with a firing like this one... they're 2-8. They're not turning this season around and making the playoffs. Why not wait? What's the benefit of this? Do they want the interim coach to win some games??

I mean - they're already paying Daboll millions and they're not going to find a good replacement on the street at this point. Why not just keep him and write off the rest of this season? They still have to pay him millions to NOT coach now.

I think that's a simple answer: at some point you don't want the guy who you know is gone making critical decisions that impact the future of your team (like when to play a QB after concussions).

BB is George Costanza telling off the Maras.

last year of Daboll ('18-'21)...

ken dorsey ('22-'23) replaced daboll... dorsey lasted 1 1/2 (y2 10 games) years, was replaced midseason or so by joe brady

Paging all UNC Coache(s) Belichick & Ms J. Hudson - call from NY Giants on line 1…..
To be honest this is probably a semi realistic scenario. It’s not a smart one but somewhat realistic. Belichick is certainly going to put some feelers out.

you remember last season when Dead Man Walking Jerod Mayo did everything he could to win the last meaningless game of the year, stripping us of the 1st overall pick?

Thats why, so stupid stuff like that doesn't happen

I think as the NYG start the replacement process, some potential new hires will not interview while the position is still occupied.
They will with an "interim".
Don't sell Kafka short. He has been an up and comer and has "finished second" a couple of times for other jobs.
My assumption is that priority #1 is working well with Dart, and Kafka already has that leg up on everyone else.

Players get let go if they start to slip. It is part of the business. Holding onto coaches that obviously suck leads to player disengagement in years to come. If the owners are going to support coaches cutting veteran players, then they have to appear honest and even handed by cutting coaches too. There is no harm in cutting Dabol, the Giants are better off losing at this point. So the owner makes a statement that everyone is treated fairly, if anyone slips they will be released.

To get a jump on all the other HC jobs that will come available after this season.

Anyone not employed by the NFL is fair game to begin kicking the tires. Assembling a competent staff is half the battel too. Never hurts to ask what if to potential assistant coaches that could be in the discussion. Family is a hurdle as well.
