Brian Daboll coming back to Pats

Could be one of 4 things
BB is retiring and Josh is taking over with Daboll as OC
Josh is leaving with Daboll taking over as OC
Oshea is leaving to be a offensive coordinator say in like Carolina
Daboll coached the worst offense in the nfl interest was low and like Josh wanted to go to a familar winning place to further his development and polish his turf of a resume.

It is a little odd but he's out of options with Eric, RAC, Pioli and even Sparano out of work. And in the NFL it's who you know as much as what you know that keeps you employed within a fraternity. And the pipeline may be getting a little thin what with interest in Josh rebounding a little sooner than expected. He won't leave this season but might have to after next if oppotunity knocks. When much of the developing talent left (Davidson, Daboll) in the offensive pipeline after Josh got the nod to replace Charlie, Bill brought in BOB in 2007 to plug that gap...in anticipation of the next wave of coordinator poaching. In the meantime it's not like we couldn't use a WR's coach with experience in developing talent at the position (Branch and Givens).

"It's great to have Brian back, and, no, there are certainly no hard feelings from anything that happened in the past. He’s a very knowledgeable and versatile coach who can help our football team. Anything you can do to help at this time of the year is useful - and whether that's drawing practice cards, making coffee for BB, handing Tom his moisturiser or unclogging the bathroom after the O-line has used it, everything is so important and every detail is so critical at this time of the year."

Re: Brian Daboll: The return of an old friend

Not the Patriot way, they like to go cheap and lean on staffing. Even though his KC time failed I can't believe he'd be willing to work for slave wages. I agree with others who think this is leading up to an offseason personnel move.

Yeah... :bricks: :bricks: :bricks:

If BB thinks that he is a talented coach and that he can help the team, that's good enough for me. As for this Sunday's game, perhaps it forces the Ravens to review some film on the Brown and Chiefs, in order to cover all of their bases. If Daboll helps with one or two calls that are successful, that could be the difference between a win and a loss, if the game is close. The more brain power the better, IMO.

Seems like a good summary to me. Solid first post!

It should be noted that the Pats have one of the smallest assistant coaching staffs in the league. Compared to a lot of teams, adding another guy to the Pats staff is not a bad idea.

Though it won't stop the speculation, Josh isn't going anywhere, so he's not here to be the OC heir apparent. One poster had an interesting take that I think deserves repeating points out that although he hasn't led very prolific offenses, he HAS been the leader who help 3 different RB's have career years.

So maybe BB has brought him back to NE to help Josh further grow the Pats evolving running game, now that it looks like they have THREE real young talents to develop. To some respect the development of Vareen and Ridley over the next few years, might have a similar impact on the design of the Pats offense as the adding of Gronk and Hernandez. AND that is an exciting thought.

Other possibilities include that it could be that Ivan Fears, who is approaching 60 has let BB know that this will be his final year, and Dabol was brought back to replace him.

Another piece of speculation could arise concerning the future relationship between BB and his former protege, and love child, Eric Mangini. By going with Eric back in 2007 to the Jets, Dabol joined him on the BB schit list. The fact that he's rehabilitated himself enough to get a return shot COULD mean that BB has softened his animus against Mangini. Don't forget despite his critical misstep in taking the Jets job. Despite his rather mediocre success as DC, BB had high regard for him as a coach and football mind, and he DID have great success in coaching the DB's. That's an area currently full of young talent that can use an experienced coach with a history of success coaching the position

Eric Mangini talk will be just another point of speculation that will come from the announcement of his returning to the Pats. We just can't help ourselves.

Could it have anything to do with how KC this year dominated time of possession against the Ravens 34:10 to 25:50, had 215 yards rushing, all while Cassel really did nothing.

Wonder if Belichick will have a similar game plan to what Romeo did against them holding them to 3 FG. Flacco had a really subpar game was under 50 percent, under 200 yards with 0 td and 1 int.

If BB retired, it would come out of the blue.

But I would assume that there would be hints. Such as securing a cohesive coaching staff that has the potential to get it done.

I would also bet that BB gives the next head coach the ability to have Brady under center.

I am all for adding Brian Daboll, but this does come as a suprise.
He did a good job with the receivers on his first stint with the Pats.

He left with Mangini and I can't help but remember Dabol on the sidelines
two years ago when we lost to the Browns.

Reading Dabol's lips at the end of the game, you could clearly see him
saying F U - Belichick over and over.

You can't tell me Belicichk did not get word of that rant.

It was the game that Peyton Hillis went wild and Belichick congratulated
Hillis after the game.

I don't think there's absolutely any way Belichick doesn't outlive Brady in New England. I love the guy, but he has a huge ego and wouldn't retire without giving himself a chance to show everybody he can be successful without Tom at the helm.

I could see Oshea going somewhere else. Especially if Josh was truly staying for the long haul. He was rumoured to be going to Penn State with Billy last year.
