Chargers DC.

You don't remember we were supposed to be terrified of his innovative defense?
...and he coached the Ravens DBs there 2017- 2020 so there is some familiarity.

No idea how these things go with 1st time coaches. Be interesting to see how he handles Lamar and the vets...and how they handle him.

This is the current NFL we are in. Because no HC can keep a job, get used to seeing some random guy be a coordinator for 1-2 years and then jumping to becoming a HC.

Mike Tomlin was a rare random hire in 2006, but it's becoming the norm now.

At least he was a Coordinator first. Our random guy wasn’t.

Chargers had a decent defense, so he might be good in Balt... He is kinda an unknown though just due to limited experience.. wonder which way he goes at OC... will make him or break him

I'll be more interested to see who's gonna hold Lamar's hand and shine his shoes be the offensive coordinator

Thought he did a good job with LAC's defense. That's not always what makes a good head coach though. Does he handle locker room issues, can he motivate players, does he manage gameplans and situational football well? Coordinator to head coach isn't a one to one thing, as I always feel the need to point out in these threads.

From what I've read, Bobby offered Mayo the title of DC, but Mayo rejected it. He did this because it gave him freedom to leave in the event BB continued as HC. Had he accepted the DC role, Mayo would've been handcuffed and could only leave for a HC position elsewhere. However, he then had a clause in his contract that he was the successor if Bill retired or got fired. This is why I believe Mayo quickly ditched the Carolina interview and returned to the Pats. So basically, Mayo had an ace up his sleeve leaving him with many options.

I have heard good things about Minter this past year, so suppose we'll see what happens. His defense was pretty solid this year. Not his fault that the LAC offense was pretty crap. Although as @Hugepatsfan said, his unit's performance in a single year is not necessarily what makes a person a good HC candidate.

Weird year overall though. Didn't have Jeff Hafley and Jesse Minter as two of the first four coaching hires on my bingo card.

Just saw it on NFL Network….
So let me get this straight….they just hired this guy because they think he is better than …John Harbaugh?! How short sighted

Hmm. Who was his HC with the LAC?

A double Harbaugh Frankenstein. I suspect he will do well. The Ravens have been a good franchise since they started.
I doubt they become the Jets or Dolphins or what ever
