He didn’t, save for one game. But having played the position in the NFL, he has that edge that other OCs don’t always have. And I think the belief by many was that he could definitely handle it.
Yeah, I'm not worried about it, but I know that was definitely one of the questions people had when the Pats hired him.

They're already working on his footwork on shotgun snaps. I imagine they have other things they're working on, too.
Got it. Because I know that brady was saying coaches never want to mess to much with a QBs mechanics as it could adversely affect his game. Sort of like a sharp shooter in the NBA..

Somewhere I read that it depends on how established the QB is. If he's a vet, they won't mess with him much. If he's a rookie, they'll feel more inclined to give it a try.

Is why I'm high on Mayo. The guys played in the NFL at a high level. Has championship pedigree ,and coached under the best regardless of calling plays wich I think is vastly overrated.

Mayo will let AVP have autonomy to handle his offense, and I believe that is the best thing to do.

Yes! Your absolutely right I heard it on YouTube somewhere TB12 was doing an interview. With Drake he's a sponge to what AVP and TC are teaching him. So anything that will permeate to him have success with his WRs I believe is a great thing. In the case of Mac his mechanics were changed for the worst not the better his second season.

The breakdown on the video I shared is a interesting watch.

Ok! Thanks for sharing that. I hear Drake is a very quick learner. He has basically 2 months to acclimate. I believe he will.

The hope is he can change his mechanics without overthinking it or not throwing it as well.
Agreed. Is why I hope it's not a serious tweak.. never want to take away from what he's best at.. Drake has a rocket and I'm 100% confident AVP will develop him to the QB we know he can be.

2 months?

2 months?
Sorry, clarification. Training camp meaning he will have that time to acclimate to the offense and hopefully be ready by week one. I just believe even at his young age he's the best option for us at QB.

Let's not ignore this highly recruited, big time college QB has been exposed to advanced coaching, gurus, elite football camp individual attention, etc....for years...... and yet, he's mechanics are a still messed up.
And while no doubt Maye will continue to get the coaching and support starting NFL QBs receive, we also know AVP, who has already informed the public he wants to limit the number of voices in the young QB's ear, will be the main voice/coach/mechanics adjuster for the young QB. During this time, AVP will be installing a new offense, coaching players he's had no exposure with including 2 rookie QBs, game planning, etc.....all while abiding by league rules that limit practice.

I wanna be in the glass half full crowd with this kid and Maye's arm strength is tantalizing.....that being said.....I watch too many NFL QB's who have been coached up (some for years) with funky mechanics, clunky footwork, poor release slots, elongated throwing motion, etc....and more often than not these mechanical issues impact their effectiveness.

Fingers crossed AVP is the guy
Bledsoe endorsed him (which should cause us all night terrors)
I am going to try and give you a glass half full outlook. Dude played 2 years of high school football as well as playing basketball, so I don't know how many camps, private coaches he was actually introduced to. He also played 3 years of college ball while starting 2. In his first year as a starter he was talked about as being the top 2 QBs with Caleb.

If he was able to be that good on a ****ty UNC team while having bad mechanics just think how good he could be once things are improved. Dude doesn't have a ton of experience and during pre draft he said he wanted to work on pocket presence, footwork and throwing motion. He knows there are things to improve and he sounds like he is willing to put the work in.

Good post. I'll take maye with things he has to improve on over anything we had at QB last season. He's got raw talent and we have the right guy to coach him up in AVP..

Bledsoe isn’t the only one. He’s been highly touted by everyone who has worked with him. People are like, “Yeah, but then why was he fired?” He really wasn’t. He was just collateral damage after ownership in Cleveland cleaned house. So we’ll see.
When he was with the Bills, the entire staff was fired.
With Tampa the whole staff was fired
With Green Bay they chose not to renew his contract and apparently AROD was pissed
Cinncinati QB coach left to be Browns OC
Browns fired him because Watson sucks even though they had 5 different QBs last year in a playoff run.

Individually he has been fired once. I know that does not fit the narrative of some of you.

He needs to fix this quickly and I’m not sure where this weird release came from all of the sudden. His motion looked fine in College.

Don't forget, TBs first year they had him work on his arm strength, he was a skinny kid with not a rocket arm, then he worked on his mechanics every year, of course Tom was a perfectionist nut but maybe the Drake is too.
