I honestly cannot figure out why they drafted Milton. Focus on getting Maye ready. Don't add a full rebuild of Milton on top.

I think it is multiple reason, Josh Allen was very inaccurate out of college but had a great arm, but he also showed other abilities making him a 1st round pick. But it is possible Milton could hopefully develop somewhat like Josh. You cannot teach arm strength.
The 6th round was, IMHO, weaker than normal, with QB a premium position and anyone you picking there being a long shot why not take a long shot at a QB?
Teams are desperate for QB's. if he can show anything in preseason maybe you can recoup a 5th round pick or more in future years.

He really has a great build for a tight end, maybe in a year you convince him he can't be a QB but he can be a tight end and also a gadget player in certain spots. This, for a 6th round pick, might be the most chance of success.

In the end he was probably just the highest rated on their board, by a lot. Like a 4th Round grade available in the 6th.

Pats obviously felt that was Milton. Some posters are inferring too much with this
pick.
He's a longshot but you see how much he can develop over the next few years.
No, he's not Tom Brady,lol. And he has no chance of ever being on the same level as Maye. Let's be real.
But you do the best you can to help him reach his max potential.
So if he works his ass off next few years maybe he becomes Maye's backup eventually and shows enough that you can something decent in a trade.

There is only a defined amount of snap in practice. I want the majority of them going to Maye. I am not interested in dividing that by 4 in the name of competition.

I find it interesting no one in this thread is talking about the IMO well done and informative video the OP shared. I was all aboard the Maye train from the first videos I watched of him back in December and had no idea what people were talking about when they said crappy footwork and a long release. Looked absolutely fine to me.

Slowed down, and compared admittedly unfairly to Brady, I see what they are saying. He slams the ball with his left hand forcing it to go unusually far behind him when he winds up. It’s almost like loading a catapult using tension to add velocity when he should be able to just use his arm to flick it. The ball shouldn’t go much past his ear, instead it’s nearly a foot past his shoulder and on some of those throws behind his back foot. In the NFL that can lead to more strip sacks as DEs do get there .1 seconds or more faster.

The footwork comment I don’t see as much but there is occasionally an extra half hop forward. Small thing and probably impossible to correct in live fire but same consequence it does increase odds of a strip sack. Again not fair to compare him to Brady but look at his footwork rookie year versus 4 year vet, night and friggin day, so it IS possible to improve if you work at it and work at it and work at it and work at it. I love Maye and his attitude so I think if he gets the chance to work on these things without the pressure of being the week 1 starter, man he could be SO good.

There is competition for playing time and competition for invested team resources to make one player or another successful. Everyone is well aware that the team will be dedicating resources to help Maye develop outside of the other QB's. He should earn playing time and practice time with the rest team as part of the normal team culture.

Nope, his cannon blows people away but everything else he does is below average.
His PFF rating from a clean pocket was in the 13th percentile of all FBS QB's so 83% of COLLEGE QB's were more accurate from a clean pocket than Milton. Maye was 89%, Williams 90% and were top 2 among the drafted QB's.
PFF analyzed a bunch of data including that one which they show historically are the most important and used that to come up with a Wins Above Average number based on those most important metrics.

Milton averaged a WAA of .17 the last 2 years.
Maye was 1.275 (led all 2024 NFL QB prospects in 2-year average WAA)

Milton is 2.5 years older than Maye and needs way more time to develop.
In 3 years, when Maye has played enough to determine if he is the guy, Milton will be 27.5 years old.

I like Scrappy Zappe but if he remains on the team when the season starts, it will tell me they don't have in Jacoby or Maye. Milton on PS unless he makes a shocking advance.
