Brainstorming......Ryan Mallet.

You don't get rid of a 3rd round pick after his first year. It's just not good business. Ken, you aren't going to get more than what you paid for a guy with less than a game's Preseason experience...simple fact. You're going to struggle to get the second round tender for Hoyer who has proven himself on much more of a level than Mallett has.

Anyone who thinks Mallett being traded is good football logic just doesn't know football. I'm sorry.
You ABSOLUTELY "get rid of a 3rd round pick" if he's very unlikely to see the field over the next few years and you can turn that 3rd round pick into a high 2nd round pick.

And for the umteenth time you can get that kind of 2nd round value for Mallet because, while his is completely unproven in the NFL, he is a better prospect than the alternatives that teams can draft at that point NO QB that Cleveland can draft at 37 is going to have a higher ceiling and a lower risk than Mallet who also are totally unproven. Its that simple. In that way the Browns can come out of their first 3 picks with the top RB prospect of the last 5 years, a top WR selection (take your pick) and their QB of the future. Not a bad start to a draft

On the Pats end, NOW they have the ammo to move up and pick an immediate impact player a full tier higher than those players who might be there at the end of the 1st round. they could conceivably get all the way to #3 (though 11 and 13 are more likely options) and still have 2 picks in the 2nd. Barron, Coples, Ingram, Gilmore, Cox, Kirkpatrick, etc all now come within reach. And regardless of where they move up to and regardless of whom they choose, they ALL will add more value to the Pats over the next few years than Ryan Mallet.

Its also important to remember that due to all the bottom end roster building the team has done this off season, its the rare year when the QUANTITY of picks is NOT an issue. Anything more than 5 picks in this draft will be waste. Its a move up and/or move into 2013 draft.

In one scenario that is fully reasonable the Pats would end up with picks #13, 34, 48, 62, and 92, plus a 2nd, 3rd and 4th, next year. A lot of holes can be filled with those picks, all because we traded a wasting asset for things we can immediately use.

YES we can trade our 2011 3rd round pick after just one year.....and be thrilled about it. btw-its also better for Mallet to be move to a team where he actually has a chance to play
