Brady's exit from the Bucs as it relates to the 2022 Patriots

I think they're now rebuilding.... and Chris Godwin just got put right on our radar. I can imagine what someone like Godwin if healthy would do for Mac. Hope the Pats can afford him.

I wonder who else they'll cut now and make available for us.

Huh? I thought the Bucs are a super team…can’t they win with any top 15 QB? A lot of really smart posters in here claimed just that. I think they‘ll just land Teddy Bridgewater and win two in three years.

Bucs are going to be in rebuild mode. I expect them to let their older free agents to walk like JPP, Suh, and Gronk. They will likely let Godwin walk too. They aren't going to franchise him now that Brady is gone and he is coming off an ACL injury and Godwin is going to want the deal that makes him the most money and I don't think that will be with the Bucs. Fournette will likely be gone because the pass catching RB was Brady's twist to the Bucs offense and isn't a huge piece of the Arians offense.

BTW, I wouldn't mind the Pats signing JPP or Suh to one year deals and try to develop players to replace them next year. Both are good one year stop gaps for the Pats to fix some of their defensive issues. Although JPP has turned into an injury risk.

Bucs have come out and said that Godwin is their #1 priority. Regardless of their QB, he is a key piece for their offense given his age and special play.

Now that they'll lose just a couple of players, they go from one of the greatest supporting casts of all-time to a team that can't compete and need to rebuild? Which players are causing this major change from an all-time great roster to a terrible, uncompetitive supporting cast? Because Godwin will miss, maybe, part of the season? Carlton Davis? Be specific.

He probably is. He was injured for a large part of the season this year. So he might rebound, but he is a risk. I wouldn't be shocked if he retired though.

Somebody pointed out that Bill O'Brien recruited Godwin to Penn State (but left before he got there), so there would be familiarity if that's the move at OC. I just don't think you can possibly count on him being the guy at WR in 2022 given how late in the season he tore his ACL. They could sign him long term and count on more contributions in 2023-2024 when Jones is still on his rookie contract, but I think they'd need to hedge their investment in him with more depth in 2022 in case his recovery doesn't go perfectly.

I agree with you. They still have a good supporting cast. Great front 7, offensive line, and Evans. If they can find a stellar quarterback, there’s no reason they can’t be competitive. At the same time, having an elite QB makes a world of difference for any team.

The Pats misjudged the market for WRs last offseason. But even then, $11 million a year for a #2 WR isn't crazy money. Godwin could get $20 million a year average not total contract. That is what Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper are getting and with the cap exploding next year with the new TV contracts, it wouldn't be surprising that the top WRs in this free agency average yearly as much as Agholor got for his entire deal with the Patriots.

I think there will be a team that grossly overpays for Godwin even with his ACL injury. I don't think the Pats are the team to overpay for a top of the market player.

The Pats are the team that pays big money for bottom of the marker players. Brady has retired. The time where you could get productive receiver for 6M is over. At some point we will need to pay for top of the market players.

I stand by Godwin at 20M after an ACL is a better investment than 11M on Agholor or 12M on big RZ target Smith
