Brady was tired of taking less money so BB could pay for a team only for BB to spend pennies on deadbeat WRs. Tony Romo alluded to this during a broadcast. Brady picked a new team with 2 good WRs in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. BB wanted Brady gone because he was sick of his BS.

That hadn't happened in the NFL since (checks notes) the Patriots did it way back in 2001-2004 when Tom was paid like a 6th round draft pick. So you pretending like this was commonplace, or all any team needed was a great QB is fan fiction. They went a decade without actually winning a ring when Brady was the highest paid, or among the highest paid in the NFL... even if they came close a few times.

Brady didn't want to rebuild in 2020 at the age of 43, which is what it would have taken. His wife also wanted them to move to Florida. It's tough to say a guy should be fired after going to the third round. But when said guy keeps losing to the same staff over and over, what other alternatives is there?

The number one problem was that Brady wanted a long-term deal - and believed he earned it - and didn't want to go year-to-year. The latter was the bigger issue, and that was what caused the real rift. Had he gotten the long-term deal, I absolutely believe he wouldn't have left.

TB was a stacked team outside of the QB position where Jameis played like a dip ****. The QB position is the most important in sports. There's no position in any league that's going to make a bigger difference in a team's win-loss record than improving at QB. Brady knew that. He was smart about where he went. He didn't just go to a flashy market like many players do. He made a very astute and informed football decision.

Being a 7 win team with a QB who isn't starting caliber is actually a reflection of TB being pretty damn good. Most teams without a starting caliber QB will be closer to the basement than that. Replace a bad QB with a guy who was still probably 2nd best QB in the game at that point (only behind Mahomes) and it makes sense that they went from mediocre to playoff team capable of the deep run they did.

Let's not act like Brady took a team from worst to first. He strategically picked a spot that had a super bowl capable roster in place. Outside of the QB position, they very much were one of if not the best team in football. So Brady knew, as the guy coming in to play QB, that it was a great spot.

This is pretty much it. Add in that Brady got fixated with age 45. On the flip side I don't think Bill was against 45 but he had him under control through age 42 and should have even had franchise tag options. So BB didn't have the urgency that he should have.

Then after 16 Brady felt and justifiably so that he should just get 45 regardless and with each year after that he just got more frustrated until before 2019 he insisted on the no tag clause. Who knows how Bill would have handled that if Kraft didn't cave and who knows how Brady would have responded if Kraft didn't step in.

They had the best defense in the game at the time, they had a great offensive line and they had decent weapons. I get that Tom wanted the superweapons he saw other QB’s playing with, but that doesn’t often lead to rings.

I think back to 2019 when Tom was pouting on the sideline and the team was 9-0 with the defense playing at a historic pace. He was pissed about Antonio Brown’s situation… as if they could have done anything different. He blackballed Jakobi Meyers which was childish. He could have handled the situation better also.

I don’t think Tom was staying regardless… his wife wanted out of NE. The team had aged out and needed to start over. They entered 2020 with the third most dead cap in the NFL and needed to sign or replace 12 starters or major contributors. It was a dead end.

People thinking Tom would put the fans of New England over his wife and family, along with the possibility of playing on a superteam in a region with no state tax are dreaming.

All things end… some people just accept it, others whine about it for the next decade. Thread’s like this are a testament to that.

This is the gazillionth time this has been argued, go back in the time machine when Drew got hit and the job was allegedly passed to Brady TEMPORARILY... BB had the balls to stick with Brady and not give it back to Drew. There was a stink in the papers (Shaughnessy, Borges & other scribes were hugely upset at this decision). Drew also voiced his displeasure as he was "promised" he woiuld get the job back. Drew could walk on water in those days...
BB stuck to his belief in Brady, if he didn't this whole thing might have ended differently.
Then he built the team around Brady.. the rest is history.
For me the answer is easy they were both responsible for our dynasty, it may not have happened if BB went back to Drew as he supposedly promised.

I listened to the Lets Go Podcast with Bill yesterday . He said as he has before that it is all about the players. Then Jim Gray asked him coaches have ego do you have one like lombardi had an ego, walsh had one. BB said they also had good players.
Perhaps the most interesting comment was when gray asked him what mistakes he made as a coach - he cited not kicking the FG in the SB vs the giants on 4th and long, giving up 40 pts to the eagles. First time ever i have heard him admit anything publicly about SB 42. He said the the trophy should be named brady not lombardi since he has won 7 of them .
Perhaps that settles it - Players are far more important in winning than coaches.

Somehow his confidence and his pride for his team's accomplishments got mixed up with people thinking he has a large ego when the reality is he is actually quite humble and has always given his players the credit.

8-0 not 9-0. Also Tom was doing no such thing and the defense was just a product of playing a very easy schedule up to that point. Nothing more.

Bill's episode today some great stories some I actually hadn't heard before.

It's the first dynasty. They didn't say what game but the story goes we tried to convert 4th and inches and failed. The next day while yelling at them Bill says it was 4th and the size of my **** and we couldn't get it.

Or the way Rodney and Christian Fauria tell the story leading up to SB38. Panthers were talking a lot of smack in the media and in typical Bill fashion he didn't want anyone talking back. But just before the team runs out for the game he told everyone now you're free to do you're talking.

Even Ted Johnson was talking up his game plan vs the Rams. Hit Marshall every play lol.

And of course the biggest case is the Butler play. Love the way they pointed out the 4th and 1 we stuffed lynch on earlier in the game. Something I know we've discussed plenty but that nationally doesn't really get mentioned.
