it could just have been just a pep talk to cheer him up..so lets not read into it as something confrontational..if anything like that was to happen ..trust me piole wouldnt do in front of the media ...the pats know what to show to the media and what not to..we all know that by now...

don't forget about the whole China Bowl angle too...
when that question came up and tom said something like, "I can't wait to go, it'll be fun." My first reaction was...you lyin' ---------.

this little session was obviously to give him talking points on how to handle the barrage of Deion questions.
Bingo.

The rest of your post was on the money as well.

Where did this idea come from that Brady took way less to stay with the Pats? Do you guys just regurgitate things you hear even if you aren't supplied with supporting evidence?

Brady had two years remaining at $11.5M. That got torn up when he signed a 6 year $60M deal. So the deal created 4 new years and about $48M in new money. Also known as $12M annually. For comparisons Peyton makes $14M annually and was a free agent when he got his deal. So Brady got $2M less per year in new money, got it two years early, and at the time it was still a commonly held opinion that Peyton was the better quarterback.

Now don't get me wrong, Brady could easily have waited a couple years and demanded he be the highest paid player in the game. He could have pulled a Deion and stated that since his current contract didn't favor him he wanted to pretend it didn't exist. Brady definitely took a classy approach and met the team halfway. Let's forget this notion though that Brady is horribly underpaid.

Besides, the arguement that he took less and now they won't keep his toys makes no sense. IF he did take so much less, as is the popular and incorrect opinion, how would he feel to see it flippantly given to another player? I guess he wouldn't have a problem if he feels that Deion is a $7M a year player, and if he does then I thank God Tom Brady is nowhere near personnel decisions.

The reality is that Brady is the face of the Patriots. Last night we saw pouting, moping, looking at the ground, screaming and whining at the officials.

That's not the leadership he is paid for.

I agree 100%

Here's a quote:

So Brady scuffles along, taking one for the team.

He was one of the last players out of the showers after the game, and when he got to locker, personnel director Scott Pioli was there. They chatted for a few moments, and then retreated together back into the trainer’s room.

After several minutes, team doctors starter filtering out, and Brady came out with a black sock pulled high over his left shin. Brady got dressed slowly and went to his press conference, where he put on as good a face as humanly possible.

It isn't for lack of trying. Mason had it down to Baltimore and NE, he picked Baltimore for reasons ranging from his wife like the area to his wanting to play on a "team with younger stars." The pats had scheduled to get Javon Walker in for a visit but he liked Denver too much to pass it up. The Pats were going to go after Jureviscious (sp?) but he signed quickly with Cleveland, his hometown team. They were able to land one of the top wr's in the draft and got a pretty good one in Gabriel. Neither has had much time to learn the offense and produce. I give them time. The FO can only sign the guys who will sign here. They weren't going to pay Givens what he got or cave to Branch and set a bad precedent. They were prepared to go after other options but those options went elsewhere.

BTW, who reported this meeting? I know it was on EEI, was it D&C? Meter? Brady himself?

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw the quote from the Herald.

Like I keep saying put yourself in Toms shoes..........they guy takes WAY freakin less on his contract. The front office sticks it up Toms you know what and fail to resign NOT ONE but BOTH his starting WR's then sit on their hands and 10-13 million in cap space. The guy is in a war going against Abraham tanks and they have given Brady rpg's to go into battle with.

Nice metaphor, but that's "Abram" tanks, although I'm sure last night they could have used the wisdom of Abraham!

BS..I think Brady is ticked off...The offense has always been the poor step child in this organization...I think Pioli should stay the f**** out of the locker room and get him some quality WR's...

Does anyone really think that this team would be having these types of problems if opposing D's had to worry about our wr's. The book is out on the Pats. Force Brady to beat with the scrubs at WR.

There is a huge difference between playing the Jets vs Broncos. The fans expect a SB contender not a pretender..This is not the Red Sox...

Actually, Tom confronted Scott and said something to the effect, "How the he11 am I supposed to justify something like what was supposed to pass for our "game plan" to these guys (the media)? My God, not even Moses on his best day could have led us to the Promised Land with that!"

and just where would you like the Patriots FO to pull these wr's out of? Don't say a trade because you need a willing trade partner with a solid, if not great, wr; and the only one seems to be Oakland. I'm not sure I want Jerry Porter. Also, how many wr's out there will come in and make an impact any quicker than the guys already on the roster?

I blame the OC. We had two WR sets with our TE sometimes in the slot for 3 quarters. The two WR Brown and Caldwell. Neither gives the defense any fear over the top. That is way to easy to defense against. Oh yeah and the best WR we had for the game (Gabriel) doesn't play until the 4th quarter. We had a bad game but you could see they were trying to take shots down the field. The problem is those shots were Troy Brown twice and Gabriel once. Gabriel can fly but Troy is getting long in the tooth to be running fly patterns. It looks to me like Tom is pressing. He got good rhythm with Gabriel late..... Tell me why they were not trying that earlier. Oh wait because our OC loves the Brown Caldwell tandem so much. Play book or not Gabriel and Jackson need to be on the field period. Denver figured take away the run they win. Guess what they won

Sorry..but Tom ought to look at his greedy little weasel ex-mates..It wasn';t the front office that did anything to Tom..PLEASE!! Failed to resign because they were greedy little pigs..Why should Brady be upset the FO did their best to sign them..Branch wanted BIG TIME buscks.. Brady takes less..and these clowns want more..how is that the FOs fault??Go follow the Cardinals or some other loser franchise..

I agree Brady is ticked off.
But the point is through all of the adversity Brady should be showing the calm, cool leadership he has demonstrated in the past, no matter what happens on or off the field.

If he has problems with the WR's or the front office that's fine. Address the issues behind closed doors. Don't show everyone your displeasure (most importantly your own team) by acting like a child on the field in front of the whole country.

"acting like a child"...that is a bit overkill don't you think?????

Well 10-13 million in cap space and the FO is sitting on their ***** while Brady throws to one over the hill guy and another guy who should be the #4 WR on mostly any other team and you expect him to do something with that? Troy Brown vs. Champ Bailey and Reche Caldwell vs. ANYONE and you expect that to work? What are you smoking man?

What are you smoking? Did you even watch the game? Brady was terrible! He under-through WRs all game and looked very indecisive in the pocket. I saw WRs open all game, yet he was ONLY looking at Brown and Watson in the first half. When he actually started looking around in the second half, WOW Gabriel was open and making plays. I saw several plays were Caldwell was open and Brady was throwing to the covered TE's. He was just plain awful.

You can’t blame the D, they played OK. I’m not saying great, but ok. The D was just plain tired after being on the field the entire game, because the O did nothing.

Nice try, but Gabriel didn't play until the 4th quarter. The offense looked terrible, but hopfully it will get better with more rapport and time to gel!

You couldn't say it any better! How can anybody complain about the way Brady is playing? You take away his 2 best weapons and you expect miracles. You do absolutely nothing to replace them and sit on all of this money. It's crazy! I would be pissed of too if I was Brady. BB and SP suck! And this dynasty is slowly crumbling right before our eyes. It one thing to let players go for more money once they have reached their peak. It's another thing to let your best YOUNG talent go for nothing!

Did you actually SEE the game last night.

He completely MISSED at least 7 receivers BADLY. They were open and catching balls when he got it there.

Trouble was, he was downright Easonian last night.

you are all crazy. None of you know what the meeting was about, so don't speculate as to what it was...if there was a meeting at all. Denver has an excellent D and they beat us, plain and simple. Lets not throw the front office or Brady under the bus.

+1.

Looks like a lot of amateur detectives are reading too much into things. Can anyone tell me how Brady's demeanor last night differs at all from his demeanor in losses last year. It doesn't.

People are reading too much into Brady's psychology because branch is gone. When Branch got hurt a few years ago, Brady suffered in a similar way. It's hurting on the field. I don't think Brady has a hangover because of what happened, other than the fact that a sputtering offense is depressing.

The reason for the Brady-Pioli dialog is interesting to speculate about, although we're probably never gonna know for sure what it was about.

The key thing is, Piloi is not a coach, and would not be giving any 'pep talks' or trying to manage Brady's mood. What Pioli does is acquire and get rid of players. My wild guess is it was one of two things:

1) he was checking with tom's judgment of how things are working with gabriel and jackson, and seeing if he thought he'd be able to iron things out over time with them, and get into a comfort level and start being successful, or if he was concerned that they'd not be able to get it going together.
(If brady was concerned, I think it would make pioli start to consider what they could do about it)

2)or...perhaps he was concerned that brady was upset with the organization and wanted to make sure there was no lingering resentment and misunderstanding regarding why the front office did what it did with player movements. Perhaps he was just trying to calm brady's feelings. I doubt very much this was it - I think it was much more directly related to what pioli does - acquire pl;ayers - I think he was just checking with tom to see if he thought these players were gonna eventually work out.

anyway, I think this will all wash away over the next several weeks. I think we couold easily lose again next week, but as the next 4-6 weeks tick by, I think we'll all see this team make strides and come together, and there will be alot less concern.
