Brady is oddly criticized by former Buc teammates (link)

Thankfully us boomers can stay out of this one, Toamy is late period Gen X...

I'm a Gen Xer older than TB12, so I guess I'm invested. Thankfully, I have very hard working Gen Ys, Zs, and Millenials with me, so I can't hate on anyone on a generational level.

As many comics at the roast reminded us, the divorce was triggered by him going back on his word to his wifte to retire and not play that last season where he went 8-9. Things were all set up for him to sail off into the sunset after winning that seventh super bowl with his buddy Gronk, but nope, he had to cling on for that last season while making everyone around him miserable.
Brady did the right thing. He had a wife who wanted him to quit something that he made a fortune at, loved to do and had been doing when he met her. I don't think we have many wives on here but I'd be curious to hear what they would do in that situation. At that time my wife said that she'd never ask me to quit something that I was great at and that I loved to do.

Then again, maybe he changed his mind after he found out that his wife was banging the karate boy. I don't think we'll ever know what really happened.

Gisele did the right thing. She had a husband who wanted her to quit doing something she made a fortune at, loved to do, and had been doing when he met her. You do understand that she was one of the worlds best paid models, was making more than Tom, and according to estimates still has a higher net worth than Tom, no? You do understand this isn't the 1960s any more and this thing called women's liberation happened decades ago, no?

She put her career on the back burner so they could have kids, now that they were school-aged she thought she had an agreement from him on retirement so she could do more modelling, he publicly announced first the retirement then the un-retirement, all so he could go 8-9 and get his ass kicked by the Cowboys in the wild card round instead of taking that seventh ring and riding off into the sunset.

If that's what being right looks like, I'd hate to see what being wrong looks like.

Then they both did the right thing. All either of them had to do was wait a couple more years but neither wanted to do that. The only difference is that Gisele could go back to her career and Tom couldn't.

You do understand that women's lib happened well before the 1960's, no? You may be confusing that with the civil rights act.

They are very similar, but to me the difference is Gisele put the marriage before her career, whereas Tom said he was going to but then reneged in a very public way, and when that happened the **** hit the fan.

Nah. I was born in the early 60s so don't have a lot of knowledge of what happened before. I do remember lots of talk of women's lib late in the 60s and early in the 70s. I remember symbolic bra burning, etc. I remember in the 60s my dad being very unhappy when my mom told him she was going to take a job. He wanted a traditional housewife. He was so locked in to what he wanted that he didn't realize what a good thing he had. In short, he was a man of his era. He smoke and drank more than he should, held 'traditional' views despite all the evidence that the world was changing rapidly, and died young. Meanwhile, my mom is happily enjoying life at age 84 and doing lots of good things for other people.

The Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963 requiring men and women to be paid equally when doing the same work, but it wasn’t until the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) was passed in 1974 that women were able to get their own credit cards in their own name.

None of us know what happened behind the scenes, and Brady had never publicly discussed it. Maybe Brady knew the marriage was over and decided he’d rather play football than sit at home.

I think it’s pretty naive to think the marriage just crumbled because of his decision to go back to football. It had probably been failing for a long time prior. Maybe Brady knew about the karate dude and didn’t want to try and save the marriage. Who knows.

This article sounds a little familiar: Mayfield: Brady comments 'taken out of context'

Mayfield: "The building was a little bit different with Tom in there," Mayfield said. "Obviously, playing-wise, Tom is different. He had everybody dialed in, high-strung environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed out. ... They wanted me to come in, be myself, bring the joy back to football, for guys who weren't having as much fun."

Brady responds: "I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings. So, there was a mindset of a champion that I took to work every day. This wasn't daycare. If I was going to have fun, I'd go to Disneyland with my kids. There's a way to approach this game and it's with the right mindset to try to push each other outside our comfort zone, and great teammates do that."

Ouch, I just find it funny that people are saying the exact same things about both Brady and Belichick.
They are the GOATS. Bills resume took a severe hit his last 2 years- but not enough to lose his GOAThood.
But Brady? Any NFL player got anything negative to say is just a loser.
Seriously? Baker F'n Mayfield?
Youre just a jag. Keep your jag-trap shut.
Nobody wants to hear anything from you

I never have and never will understand this " generation" thing.
I don't and never have identified myself as a member of a specific generation. That's stupid.
I'm 72 but I don't ***** about ANY generations.
Not my Dad's, aka Greatest Generation" ( what a crock!)
Not boomers, Gen Z,X or whatever.
Fact is,they're all the same.
We're all just humans on the planet trying to find our way and do the right thing.
I've worked with plenty of Millenials, gen z and x who were all awesome to work with.
There's no difference between any generations. Period. There's good people,
bad people.
Maybe if we just all treated every human we encounter as an individual, and not try to stereotype them by age, race, religion, etc., things in general would be much cooler.

OK Boomer

I work with young people every day at a university. I don't hate on them. I like them. I encourage them.

There are huge cultural differences with previous generations. There are also massive differences in terms of skill.

If people can't see the disinvestment in ordinary Americans, I don't know what to tell you. It has happened. Other things have contributed, like technology, but more than that, we've allowed a bunch of sabremetrics people to take over the world, and the results are now coming to the fore.

I refrained as I though it wouldn't be as humorous coming from another boomer
I've never actually said that to anyone and I just thought it was set up too perfectly.

Yeah, you boomers are all alike

I stand corrected. Thanks.

Edit: Now that I thought about it I must have been confusing the women's right to vote. I have memories of the ERA battles so it had to be around the 60's.

It's great that your mom has the energy and ability to help others. That's a rewarding path to take. My dad also died relatively young of a brain tumor at age 72.
My wife and I agreed that one of us would stay home for the rearing of our kids. That turned out to be her and she loved it. Then she became a nurse when the boys were teens. We're all very proud of her for that.
I gave up smoking about 25 years ago (2+ packs a day) and never liked drinking, but I still do it a little. And I still preach marriage to young people. I know many young men who benefitted from finding the right woman.
You can't blame a person for having traditional views after growing up under more traditional values. Not all of the world's changes have been positive.

That about sums it up.

It's pretty funny when you think of it. A nothing QB is talking about Brady in a less than positive way, quoting anonymous sources about nothing, and it ends up here as a knock on Brady.
