There was no point to not just making this decision yesterday but lol all you want
I guess they tried to call the bluff of other teams who were waiting for him to be cut - and they called the Patriots bluff!

He will get picked up by a team in need - meanwhile I actually like this group of no-names and I think Mac Hollins will be a fan and Maye favorite.

So I guess this leaves us with 6 WRs if we look at Baker as a special teamer?

I'm not expecting a move to add at WR but you never know.

If they were attempting to make the trade with the Vikings, sure there was. And that's what's been reported. That the Pats were in negotiations with the Vikings and things fell apart when the Panthers offered up Theilen.

It begs the question of who was handling the negotiation. Was it Wolf? Or was it Streicher?
Coffee is for closers. They F'd up. It's ok to admit.

It's not a huge mistake but we don't need pretend otherwise either.

Ever think there's not 53 guys they want? Pump the brakes in the incompetence thing. Cheezus.
This.

It is absolutely possible that Vrabes looked and said “there are 45 players I actually want on the roster.

But you can’t just go find that many replacements in one offseason.

Will the Bourne hate abate?
Don’t hate him, never have.
People love the idea of Bourne, cause the actual player was just not that good. He won’t be missed on the field, and will be forgotten very quickly.

Good dude, wish him well.

He always sucked.

I am redeemed.
Bourne was a fine pickup in 2021, but the problem was he and Meyers were the primary WR's. Once teams top DB's put their attention on them, they would look like they forgot how to play WR.

Well said.

Just nothing special as a WR.

SF or Miami.

Pats should've kicked his ass to the curb in 2024, but immediately re-signed him coming off a major injury. One of Wolf's many dumb moves that season.
And the hate won’t abate…

New coaching staff but still same bafoonery at the GM. If Bradyn Swinson turns out to be a player they will have this decision to look back on.

Total incompetence. kept him and released another player. now both gone and we got nothing
Most likely they know they have a waiver claim coming on the 53.

It might be time for Vrabel and staff to cut Wolf.

Good guy. Team player. Overall did not work out well here but I am rooting for him to succeed elsewhere.
Agreed - but he's been a tease his entire career, with the 49ers before the Pats -

I forget the guy is 30 too - definitely the right move to give younger guys with more upside the playing time, although looks like the Pats are hit with a $14 million cap hit total.

In his case I'd think he and other veterans may be wise to wait if there's not immediate interest

There's going to be clear deficiencies among some teams early in the season and the injury bug starts hitting Week 1

Right now he'll get a low ball offer - once a few more teams are in need he might still be able to get some guaranteed money after Week 1

Teams playing a bit dirty with the Pats…

Duggar, Jennings, and Bourne all should have had SOME trade value but teams seem unwilling to deal with the Pats even if it means they have to compete to sign players who end up released.

Duggar, the $$$ is obviously the issue but Bourne and Jennings are reasonable for their positions.
Get over the persecution complex.

Lots of griping here about players being overpaid, then accusations other teams are playing dirty by not trading for those overpaid salaries?

SMH.

Pats had an easy out with him becoming a FA coming off an injury. And many on this board want to forget he called the Pats organization "toxic", but had no problem putting that pen to paper to sign a contract with the Pats.

The bottom 8 aren’t really about findings players they are either role player JAGs or young developing guys who aren’t ready yet.
Players 46-53 probably are about 1% of the equation of a teams success (not that they contribute only 1% but the DIFFERENCE between a “good” last 8 players and a shaky one is minimal)

I think in other years we would have taken pennies on the dollar for Dugger and Jennings, but this roster is so bad still that moving on from them for 6 or 7 round pics hurts this team. That doesn't mean they are bad players either. We are rebuilding and regardless of what 1/2 the forum believes, this takes time. We are years out still and in year 1.

With Dugger that’s absolutely valid. Jennings and Bourne?

Not a solid case.

Both are relative bargains given positional comps.

I think it’s more “we know you don’t want them and we aren’t helping you” than any big conspiracy but I wonder if it was the Jets, or Bengals if both those guys fetched 6th or 7th round offers.

Or…Wolf is incompetent is also a possibility.
