It's bad when we blame the play caller. They couldn't run the ball. They showed that. Blame that on the play caller? Excuse the players and the OL coaches, and the RB coaches? I don't think so.

Skippy didn't even really try to run the ball in the 2nd half. So yeah that's on him.

Say what you will about his coverage abilities but Peppers was a smart, confident player for us. Hawkins looked like shyte but not all his fault. The coaching was dismal, not like he was put in a position to succeed.

Yes, and then we would have criticized him for continuing to run the ball. Seems like a no win situation.

If it was the opposite and way to run heavy then yes. But I think if it was balanced or even pass heavy but not quite so bad then we'd really be dumping on the OL instead. Who really weren't very good but not awful. I've seen some criticism but it seems like after last year that we are a little hesitant to crap on our OL and are going a little easy on them because they it wasn't as bad as last year.

To be fair the pass protection was average and given the amount of pass attempts i might even say above average. Nothing special and a few stretches where it was pretty bad but for the most part it was ok. It's the run blocking that was bad and I thought we'd be better blocking the run rather than the pass to start the season.

Is Peppers to the Steelers what Vrabel was to the Pats???

No I don't think so

I watched Bedard’s analysis, and David Andrews analysis (Andrews would certainly know) and both said the line was outright awful run blocking and that most of it was poor fundamentals and bad chemistry.

Andrews questioned not settling on a starting 5 much earlier in camp and rolling with it.

He seemed to believe more reps will solve a lot of it.

Bedard said similar but also a concerning nugget was that Onwenu was not good.

A guy that big shouldn’t have trouble opening holes.

Bedard thinks he’s out of shape.

If that’s true, I think they HAVE to trade him in the offseason.

He’s been out of shape every season after getting his deal.
just wanted to point out that I do believe Campbell, Bradbury and Onwenu took most every snap with the 1st team all summer (that they were healthy)
Moses was managed, and did look rusty
Wilson looked inexperienced but not over whelmed
if looking at PFF grades for guidance, not an end all be all, Moses and Wilson graded out poorly.

my issue was not with play calls specific, but the snap count disparity between Stevenson and Henderson.
I was looking for 40-45% for both and 10-20% for Gibson
Stevenson received a much larger portion, and could not get anything established.

This will be one of those huge decisions that depend on how it plays out whether it bites us. If we keep sucking in the secondary and major issues with the safeties, and Peppers helps the Steelers make it to the AFCCG, that will really stink.

I didn't like it especially when it happened so late. They only kept Dugger because nobody wanted him or that contract. Peppers > Dugger.

I have a hard time picturing these Steelers getting to the AFCCG.

Their defense was as bad as I've seen it in a long, long time. Watt didn't know what hole to plug.
Their offense isn't in great shape either. Rodgers is in a better situation than the Jets, but I still think he'll self destruct at some point.

The only running back in NFL history who might have gained yards last week for NE is Barry Sanders . Zero holes or push.

If he's going to get hit 5-6 times a game, definitely.

I find it amazing for folks to believe that if we ran the ball for a couple of yards a carry that Maye would have made better throws and would have been more successful.

Running for no gain or a couple of yards does NOT make the pass game better.

The only difference was Vrabel got kicked to the curb because there were better players. We can't say that in NE.

It's an old school approach and I suppose you can argue a flawed one but no one is just coming up with this idea in their own.

Bet he picks off Maye in two weeks.

There's no doubt in my mind peppers likely asked for his release. He's still a good player and he has the attitude I loved when he was here.

Vrabel clearly had/has little use for Peppers, Dugger and Jennings. All were available for trade, he'll make use of what he has in Dugger and Jennings, but they could be gone at any time.

Then they should've tried to stress the edges with Henderson & Gibson and abandon the inside game with Stevenson, who really just plain ol' Sucks right now anyway.
