Not saying that the Patriots would be interested, but with Philly trading for DeMeco Ryans, how far do you think he falls?

I have him going to the Chiefs @11. Doubt he gets past Pittsburgh.

I still wouldn't count Philly out of taking Kuechly. They still have a big hole at SLB, which is the position Ryans played and excelled at, at Alabama. If I was the Eagles I would draft Kuechly and play him a MLB, Ryans at SLB and Brian Rolle at WLB.

I don't see the Eagles giving up draft picks and paying Ryans $6M salary to be an SLB though. He'll be the MLB for sure. This just means Philly won't take a LB in the 1st which wasn't a guaranteee anyway since Andy doesn't like to do that.

They have two second rounders and there should be a few good LB's available then.

I think the Eagles go DT and they will probably take Cox/Still/Brockers/Poe if available.

I don't think you pass on the best LB prospect since Patrick Willis just because you are paying Ryans $6mil, especially with the rookie wage scale. They really only gave up the equivalent of a late 3rd rounder, so they are not too invested in the guy that they have to play him at MLB. I'm not saying they will draft Kuechly, but if they like him, I don't think DeMeco Ryans is a reason not to take him. He might not even make it to the Eagles, so it might not even be an issue.

While I agree you both make very good points, the eagles absolutely have to go DT/LB BPA. But they really need help @ LB across the board. Them not going LB early is comparable to us not drafting a WR early had we not gotten B.Lloyd. They may have fielded arguably the worst LB Corp in the league. As good as that D-line was on passing downs, if they stick with that wide 9 on early downs they need sure tacklers that can cover real estate and fill gaps quickly on the backside.

I see Jamar Chaney landing the WLB job over Rolle mainly because Rolle is so tiny (5-10/227), Ryans in the Middle and then a battle for the SLB spot between a draftee and incubant on the roster already.

It'll be interesting to watch on draft day for sure.

Pittsburgh or the Jets will probably take Kuechly, Farrior is ancient and Bart Scott is useless so they both need him.

I wouldn't be shocked if Carolina takes him at 9. He's a better football player than any of the defensive linemen in this draft.....Period And, it's not really all that close.

Wouldn't mind Carolina grabbing him....would hate to see him on the Stealers or Yets ...

How did I not hear of this?

Seems odd, signed a decent extension 2 seasons ago! Not a bad player either!

The Eagles trading for DeMeco Ryans has no effect on Kuechly's value because he was not going to be on the board at #16. As I have said in other threads, Kuechly is a day 1 starter and those guys go Top 12 (see: Patrick Willis, Jerod Mayo). Kuechly could go as high as #5 to Tampa Bay.

Ryans is a fantastic player but he became a two down LB in Wade Phillips' 3-4 scheme. He's a hell of a 4-3 MLB and fantastic leader. Philly's defense just got A LOT better.

Jon Beason just called. He thinks you're crazy.

The Ryans to Philly trade kinda messes up our DT/DE prospects. Guys like Cox, Still, and Brockers will get pushed further out of our reach. Andy Reid has a history of using 1st rounders on DL and OL and I think Philly is set at LT and #16 is too high to draft an RT. Maybe they go DeCastro and have two nasty guards but likely it's Still, Cox, or Brockers.

Tell Beason to stay healthy. He got hurt in their 1st game They should move him to wolb anyway. He's not a MLB. They lost Dan Connor who had a good year. Eagles could use safety help. If Barron gets a good workout in before the draft. I can see them drafting him to DL as you mentioned.

I did not like what I saw of Kuechly on tape. I am no scout or expert but he seemed to miss a lot of tackles. He has good straight line speed but the missed tackle bother me.

One of the best and most secure tacklers there is and one of the best in NCAA history. He's also one of the most decorated LBs in NCAA history. He has bare instincts and prepares better than anyone in the draft.

He's a first round lock for me.

Also, disagree on straight line speed. He hasn't got immense amounts of it but his hustle, motor and instincts make up for it. He doesn't carry a lot of weight imo so he should be a little faster which would help him as he isn't renowned for being a fierce tackler...just an efficient one.

OK . . . maybe this is just Charlie Casserly being a moron, but here's how he has his latest NFL.com draft shaping up:

27. NE: Andre Branch, DE, Clemson
28. GB: Peter Konz
29. BAL: Dont'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama
30. Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson
31. NE: Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi St.
32. NYG: Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College

(A) He has no ILBs going higher.
(B) He has Coby Fleener out of the first.

If the board actually shaped up with Kuechly still available at 27/31, could you see BB taking him?

If Cox is available at #27 he will be a Patriot! If Kuechly is still on the board at #31, I suspect that the phone will be jumping off the hook in BB's warroom! If it were me I would jump at taking Kuechly at #31!!!!

BTW I like Casserly, but that Mock draft is all hosed up!

Wow! If Cox is available at #27, BB needs to take him right there and then. Big athletic D lineman are a rare commodity. I think Cox is a top ten to twenty pick.

If Kuechly is available at #31, BB needs to count his blessings and fill out the card and send it in. Don't even answer the phone.
