BOSTON CELTICS vs. Washington Wizards (Eastern semi-finals)

This is what young people who disregard Bill Russell, the greatest basketball player of all time, don't understand. Back in his day and up until recently, players got rest in minutes not days.

There's also the misconception that because Russell had to play less rounds in the playoffs it somehow lessened his amazing accomplishments. It looks to me as though the teams now are the beneficiaries of much softer teams, even in the later rounds.
My dad played and watched basketball all his life, from the 30's to 2002. He was a mathematician and a computer scientist, and preferred to analyze things objectively, and he had a huge appreciation for all the amazingly talented players who've come along in the game's colorful history.

I asked him once, "Hey Dad, who's the greatest basketball player, ever?"

He took on that deep, thoughtful stare ensuring he took everything into account; but it was no more than one second before his mouth opened and he quietly, simply muttered:

"Bill Russell."

We got outcoached and outworked in the boards.

Stevens needs to figure out how to beat that trap they're using on IT or put in another player who can take it to the hoop once the ball is in his hands after the trap. Too often IT passed out of the trap and we couldn't take advantage of their defense scrambling.

Now we'll see if Stevens is really a championship caliber coach.

I don't think this is a championship roster, Stevens has gotten the most out of this team. I think it's unfair to expect him to win a championship

These runs by the Wizards are killing us. Every damn game they do it. It's not just ordinary runs where we give up 10 straight points. It is spotting the Wizards 15-20+ or leads in the blink of an eye. You can't win that way. Really we are fortunate not to be down 3-1 at this point.

Well... look at it this way. Whoever wins this series is going to get absolutely bulldozed by the Cavs anyway. So what's the point?

I want more Rozier and Jerebko and less Smart and Crowder ...
Smart and Crowder are front runners ... not ballers.
I'd like to say more Brown but he's just not ready, too tentative on offense though his defense is excellent for a rookie.

True it is just delaying the inevitable but it would be a good accomplishment for this team to get into the conference finals and gain some more playoff experience.

I think the Cavs will steam roll them though.

The only way they win a game or 2 is if Crowder, IT, Horford, and Avery Bradley all show up every night. And then obviously get some good contributions from everyone else.

Lets be honest the team overachieved this year. IT can score, but he's not a great defender. Horford is what he is, a good unselfish center, but with two bad knees won't be a rebounding force and can't move like he used to.

First quarter going well. Hopefully no more 20 or so point runs against the Celtics. I consider this game 5 a must win the the Celtics. The way the last 2 games went losing this would be horrible.

Yes must win no doubt. If they lose might as well not watch game 6 in Washington.

Strong start, keep it up. Call a timeout if the Wizards get on a run. Need this game or the series is effectively over.

Great start love it. No slacking off guys. Just have too..

Thomas only 4 points and up 20. Feels good man.

Fun fact. IF you go on the yahoo score board site you can see ahead of the game my about 5 seconds with the updates on average.

They are all over Thomas, but Bradley and Crowder are having 1 of there good nights. Everything is going right for the Celtics hopefully they keep the gas pedal to the floor. They have to win this game.

Up 15 with 24 minutes left. That is an 88.7% win probability (not even counting home court so that probably puts it at 90%. That is assuming the Wizards get the ball first which i think they do).

Have to close it out. No excuse.

I agree that the Celts are not a complete championship caliber team yet. That being said, a hot team can beat a better team in a short series, so winning against the Cavs is difficult but not impossible. The Celts' major deficiency is in the front court. Next year, both Guerschon Yabusele (6-8, 260) and Ante Zizic (7-0, 255) should be ready to contribute, so that deficiency might be addressed.

I am not a regular NBA watcher, so I don't know if he is just having a bad series, but is Marcus Smart always this bad?
