It Is What It Is Boomer Esiason on D&C: Dolphins to exploit ‘frightening’ secondary

“Number two,” continued Esiason, “since there is no pass rush, and they don’t play a lot of man coverage, those zones start expanding down the field. When you have guys like Brandon Marshall that can get down the field and can, you hear it all the time, stretch the defense, what people are talking about is not just throwing the ball deep down the field, but stretching the zones underneath. There are wide open players.

“Watching the films from last week and watching the Buffalo and New England game, I think it was frightening. I’ve never seen a New England defense, since Bill Belichick has been there … that was so porous against the pass. I see a team that is going to be exploited each and every week by their opponents because of what the opponents did the week before. It’s a copy cat league.”

Should have called this "Boomer states the obvious."

Wow, Boomer? You figured that out? Genius!

Anyway...

Why not play more man coverage? Blitz to create a pass rush - and leave the db's exposed, yes.....but could they be any worse than they are now?

Boomer also went to point out that water is, indeed, wet.

Bottom 20th in the league could have told anyone this secondary is a work in progress

Things have to get worse before they get better. We are like a junkie who has to hit "bottom" before he gets better.

If they tear us up, I hope they throw it for 500 yards and 10 touchdowns. Maybe that will stop the "bend and then break" defensive philosophy.

Obviously Boomer doesn't know that BB plans to tighten up the Bend but don't Break Defense.......10 yard buffer instead of 12 yards. Bubbly is on ice

Who cares what Boomer has to say? We're not in bottom 5 of pass-rushing either. He's an idiot. Our pass defense is struggling due almost entirely to coverage issues.

Pass defense is struggling due to lack of experience

Pass rush is struggling due to lack of talent

I hope the Pats D play like the Giant's D last night.

Boomer has always been way more than fair with his opinion of the Patriots. I generally have agreed with many of the things he has said. He likes Bill and the organization so i hardly think that anything he says is personal. I file it as the media asks a stupid question and the media got a stupid answer.

Yup..........

I would love to see a sack out of Cunningham.Do something out there.

Good reply.............you, sir are correct.

I think if we can manufacture just a little bit of a pass rush, just enough pressure to give the qb something to think about, the very young and very talented defensive backfield will come together nicely. Hopefully, it all starts tonight, but if not, do not panic - these "d" backs are going to be a force come december.

Maybe more man to man with these speedy guys is the answer, they leave too many soft spots playing zone. I like it when no one predicts us to win, thats when they surprise.

If we go in with the same vanilla schemes that we've been using the last year +, then yes, it has the potential to get ugly. I don't see how the coaching staff can just sit back and run the same defensive strategies that we saw over the last couple of weeks. Adjust, adapt, try something like a more aggressive blitz package to make up for our lack of a pass rush. Something! Anything!! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. I would be shocked if we run the same vanilla defense. And pissed off!

Yes, because without a sack any good play he makes (like he has done the last two games) is worthless.
