I think a good case can be made for Fairbanks. Robbed by Ben Dreith of a SB appearance. Woulda won the SB.
Fairbanks had to build a SB contender with an owner who would not and could not spend $ for players vs affluent owners. Parcells had Kraft, Fairbanks had the Sullivans.
Interesting that both HCs left their owners in the lurch.

Fairbanks was brilliant. Very good coach.

Parcells never won jack without BB on his hip. Also, Jets fans cry about Belichick being a traitor when he left. They cite the bonus Leon Hess gave him as the HC in waiting when Parcells stopped the BS and became the actual HC. Leon Hess was a respectable guy and was likely ashamed of how they made Belichick stand in front of the media and swear to the obvious sham the organization was trying to pull. That bonus was compensation for BB being made to play puppet for Parcells.

And BB has never won anything without Brady...

Parcells was a great coach.

I said it time and again, it's my belief that Parcells purposely did not prepare properly for the SB. From the decisions on who did and didn't dress (Sam Gash, Troy Brown) to the lack of 2nd half adjustments. Not having Gash and Brown hurt Special Teams coverage and hurt the offense.

Gash was on IR. Troy Brown was a head-scratcher as they decided to dress Ray Lucas instead.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about this one. I remember one interview in which a couple of players said that if Brown had been active he would have made the tackle on Howard. But I also remember reading about Brown not being 100%, thus the reason why Lucas was dressed instead.

Brown wasn't injured according to the Play-off roster. Just inactive for the game.
