Well said, Lugnuts. At least we know you’re not with Ms. Benni Volin.

Seriously, Happy Valentine’s Day because for you, it matters.

I was just reading about the pagan origins of Valentine's. A 3-day ritual in which drunk naked men sacrificed a goat and a dog, and then whipped women (who lined up) with the hides of the sacrificed animals. Oh, unmarried guys pulled names of unmarried gals from a jar and they'd f^&k. It took some Pope named Genitalia or something to screw it all up and Christianize the rituals.

But yea, happy "flogging with the hide from a sacrificed goat/dog" day.

Thank you, I forgot to note powerful men of faith.

Obtuse? How so? "Successful" in the context of your post is pretty narrowly defined and I offered another perspective. But if it's meritable debate you desire, define the topic and let's go. Regarding "word parsing": we communicate here via written word, so being specific helps to avoid misunderstanding (see below).

Thanks, clarifying after the fact is better than not at all. But good to see we agree (at least in theory) on the essence of my post.

Now THAT would be an excellent debate topic!

 No need to get personal here. Nonetheless, "old" is relative, I surely am younger than you in many respects. "Crotchety," nah -- perhaps incorrigible at times, but only when warranted. "Doofus" ... well, you know better than that.

Sounds like the plot of a tedious Ari Aster flick.

This doesn’t make the best point because Keanu is an outlier, and his decision to date an older woman sticks out like a sore thumb. What about the other hundreds of movie stars with the hottest, youngest woman they can get?

I personally don’t entirely understand it. I always liked women 30+ whom I felt were more mature and more emotionally intelligent, than women <30 who were typically more full of themselves and somewhat spoiled by the dating options, and maybe it’s because younger women just weren’t as interested in me because I never hit the “exciting danger” zone of the idiots they’d chase after. But I also recognize that is not the norm at all...most guys go for the youngest 18+. Especially movie stars who get to choose from almost anyone.

Actually, she completely leveled your point. She admitted, point blank, that there would be interest in taking things to the next level with that hypothetical dude. She just put it in a way that a woman of her age would put it, but in reality, she’s saying the same thing we are. The laws of attraction still apply. It’s in our DNA. Youth and in good shape with good physical features = sexy. It’s sexy because that’s who we are programmed to think of as fertile. Women are no different than we are in this regard. They simply go about it in different and less direct ways than a man will.

Any how many elderly female billionaires, or even millionaires, are there in the world compared to the opposite sex? The number is pretty low. But I’m not sure what point you’re even trying to make here. Why would you try to argue this by removing the “money factor” when that’s literally the only reason these women are with Kraft? This appears to be a flimsy straw man being constructed. I’ve just proven to you in this thread that a classy lady such as Deb would even be intrigued. You would too, were you in Bob’s position. You just can’t really see it because you’ve been with your wife so long that you’ve lost your handle on the opposite sex as it applies in the year 2020.

No offense intended here, but you’re an interesting case study/sample of why men your age tend to struggle so badly in dating out of the gates after either losing your significant other or going through a divorce. When there’s no need to take the pulse of a particular group of people (women in this case), you lose the ability to better understand them. It eventually happens to all of us. It’ll happen to me, too. But it’s already happened for you.

I think people would be surprised at the number of older women dating younger men. The fact is there is a lack of good men out there and women that want company have no issues in sharing their resources (be it obtained on their own or thru divorce/widowed) with someone younger. I know several guys doing it.

Perhaps there's misunderstanding here. I see it as her agreeing with my point re. "women don't think that way" (she agreed with my post) and disagreeing with your claim that a woman would "pounce" on a young prospect (you projecting the male perspective).

Yes and no. Women are much more selective than men in how that's applied for inherent reasons beyond biology so the "programming" you cite is quite different (as per my point) in substance and not just execution, ergo "how women think." But where you really miss the boat is in failing to account for the sea change women undergo post menopause in the young man/older woman dynamic. Not to put Deb on the spot, but understanding she doesn't speak for all women and even though she said she's "middle aged," she might feel quite differently a few short years from now.

We agree on this. I was just noting that without the money in either case, the younger party normally wouldn't be interested or involved.

No straw man (see above). As for being intrigued in Bob's position: sure I'd be intrigued, but I also would know from experience that superficial adolescent thrills don't last or satisfy on a soul level.

:D Is 2014 close enough? I was single my entire life up 'til six years ago.

 Beware of assumptions, they can be deadly. No offense taken from a grandiosely smug greenhorn playing armchair sociologist. ;)

One of the great things about America is the freedom to do as you want as long as it's legal. That freedom includes Bob's latest girlfriend.

Dating an ultra rich guy pushing 80 does seem to be a smart move for a 45 year old woman, but I'm no expert on women, in spite of being happily married for 42 years.

Good luck to both of them.

You and the others who like to drop their bellyaching into threads here should be thankful that politics are verboten.

Btw, if Bill Maher was a football team he'd be wearing ugly green and impure white. It wouldn't surprise me at all if I found out he was a Jete fan.

No idea what this means, but it seems like an insult.

Another insult!:eek: That's pretty damn serious calling someone a Jete fan behind their back, though.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. While I agree with your general statement, I was reacting more to folks who have no problem with the way Kraft is behaving and said they'd behave just like him. Since his wife died he (pretty quickly) first had a GF who I think was in her 20's and could have passed for his granddaughter. Then he moved on to a still-young GF (but older than the last one) who was with him for a while, but then had a baby (that he was very public in denying was his), who seemed to disappear but apparently really dumped his ass when he was caught at a massage parlor in a prostitution sting in FL after his 2nd (known) trip in a row. Now he's still dealing with that but has moved on to GF #3 who at least is a little older, but is still more than 30 years younger than him. Maybe if he started with No. 3 a respectful amount of time after his wife died, and stayed out of the massage parlor, I could have a little more respect for him as a "powerful man" and those who say they'd follow in his footsteps. Right now, and pretty much forever I am stuck on foolish, dirty old man (albeit with lots of money).

You don't have to agree with me. I get it that women and men have different opinions on this stuff.
