To me, the troubling thing about Patricia's short tenure as virtual OC and OL coach was his arrogance: going with an inexperienced QB coach, installing a new system on his 2nd year QB, doghousing his best WR, and pissing off both tackles by swapping them. Those are just not things a first time (virtual) OC should ever have considered tampering with. Pure hubris.

And shame on BB for creating this mess with his continued cronyism and nepotism. How sad it was to watch him pander to his old-time crony Saban by not taking BOB last year -- with meanwhile McDaniel's ripping off his offensive staff. Hiring BOB this year was the best he could do with the cronyism constraint, but it is troubling nonetheless.

What coach doesn't pull in "cronies" while building a staff, i.e. people they have a track record working with successfully?

Wouldn't it be cronyism if BB forced his offensive staff to stay instead of letting them go with McD?

OTOH I agree with the concerns on BoB's arrogance.

It was on full display when he was HC and de-facto GM of the Texans, and must be kept in check here.

They never worked on the field together, but Mac did help O’Brien get up to speed on the playbook as they were essentially ships passing one another - Mac leaving Alabama to go to the NFL and O’Brien leaving the NFL to go to Alabama. They have some level of a working relationship but it is minor. Something is better than nothing though.

This is advantageous because O’Brien was forced to run Saban’s system which is what Mac knows very well. O’Brien can now easily translate the system he implements in NE in a way Mac will pick up, and can also tailor the offense in ways that he knows will be comfortable for his QB.
BoB said Mac helped a little while he was preparing for the draft.

Mac spent time with BOB bringing him up to speed on the Alabama offense before leaving.
A lot of people did. According to BoB, Mac helped a little, since he was busy preparing for the draft.

Ok Bill O B it is let’s see what he thinks of Mac and Bailey.
I’m curious to see if we sign a QB like Jimmy G or draft a QB in the early to mid rounds.

The team is instantly better on offense.
However I bet this mean no Hopkins though.
I hope BillyO has the final say on the QB depth chart. I also hope he gives Zappe a fair shot.

Please bring in Shawn Jefferson as a coach and see if Edelman wants to come back now that Bob is back.
Since they are talking to Klemm again for an OL coach role, I have to assume that the same goes for Jefferson, who will likely be displaced as Arizona's WR coach once they hire a new HC there.

So BoB is back. That is good, but thinking beyond 2023 and assuming in 2024/2025 he is probably a HC candidate again. Does that mean Bill brings in McCardell, Jefferson or both to come in and restart the pipeline to replace BoB? Also would love to hear Marrone joins the staff as well. A full offensive staff of both experienced OC's/HC's and some young up and comers.

If that is the plan sign me up!
Marrone would be the appropriate choice. Might also be Caley if he is OK hanging for a year and actually learning from a real OC.

Yes, a guy who not only excelled at coaching offense in New England, but also as an NFL HC who took his team to the playoffs a few times! Horrible choice when you could've taken young innovative whippersnapper like that guy LaFleur!!
But according to the metrics that you use to compare coaching success, BoB has never won anything. Not w/ one of the top franchises in the NFL, not w/ the top College program in the FBS, and not w/ elite talent (Watson/Hopkins) in Texas.

This isn't a knock on BoB since he's a good coach, just feeding you some of your own nonsense.

No more excuses for Mac. He will probably be handed the position without competition for Zappe,

I hope that we are trying to, and can get, Klemm to coach the OL.

Klemm's offensive line at Oregon was great. They led NCAA Div-1 in allowing 5 sacks all season, after allowing 24 sacks the year before he took over. They also ranked 5th in rushing yards per carry, just behind Georgia and Alabama. They ranked 12th in rushing yards (out of 131 teams).

reading now that they are bringing Klemm in for a 2nd interview, now that BoB has taken the OC....hopefully the interest is mutual

Great news he would fix those positions I am not opposed to a young buck @ Center Andrews needs to go.
