It would be interesting to see an analysis of past offenses tossing out say the top-3 and bottom-3 games in terms of ppg and seeing if that told us anything.
It's not that difficult really, just look at the mode or median of the scores and you get a better indication of what the team is than the average used in the stats. The mode could be skewed but a lot of times its close to the median.

From a Team who made Cole Strange a First Rounder?? I think it's quite possible this would be a Bob pick like I said I want him to have a say in who we Draft on Offense.
EVERY OC has input in the draft. Picking players is a collaborative effort, with scouts banging the table and coordinators calling for players on THEIR side of the ball to be picked first.

Defensive coaches will be banging the table for one of the top CB options that will be on the table, while the offensive side will be yelling among themselves about whether to pick an OT candidate or WR/TE.

So PF2, you don't have to worry, BOB will have PLENTY of input into the process.....BUT as we all know it will be Bill who will have the final say. That being said, all the draft room clips we get make it seem like it truly IS a collaborative effort. AND from the Terry Glenn saga, however they set up their draft board has a big say as well.

Well we only have 3 more months to talk and dissect it .......and then find out we were all wrong.

I think BoB is going to get legit players on Offense in here. He won't be playing pedestrian WR's on Offense.
BoB is the GM?

Well, Pats did draft Edelman while BoB was here.

The only other two WRs taken to my knowledge were Brandon Tate and Taylor Price .... Eek

Hopefully those were BoB specials

Bill O’Brien and Mac Jones never worked to together! The media is continually getting this wrong. O’Brien was hired AFTER Jones left Alabama.

Feel free to disagree with facts @archstanton543
They never worked on the field together, but Mac did help O’Brien get up to speed on the playbook as they were essentially ships passing one another - Mac leaving Alabama to go to the NFL and O’Brien leaving the NFL to go to Alabama. They have some level of a working relationship but it is minor. Something is better than nothing though.

This is advantageous because O’Brien was forced to run Saban’s system which is what Mac knows very well. O’Brien can now easily translate the system he implements in NE in a way Mac will pick up, and can also tailor the offense in ways that he knows will be comfortable for his QB.

BoB is the GM?

Obviously, when he says "get," he means BOB is going to "receive" or "benefit from" having good offensive players

Mac spent time with BOB bringing him up to speed on the Alabama offense before leaving.

More like BB specials.

I find it interesting how with how wide open offenses are now the average NFL team scored the fewest # of points per game since 2017.
Scoring was dramatically down across the league this season. Defenses catching up? Probably.

It's sort of in the middle. They know each other, had many conversations, helped each other, but BOB never coached Mac in any games

Bill O'Brien was hired at Alabama after Mac Jones played his last game at Alabama, that's true

Also true, and widely reported:

After being hired in Jan 2021, O’Brien worked with Jones at Alabama throughout Mac's pre-draft process. Mac in turn helped familiarize O'Brien with the Alabama offensive personnel he was inheriting and the existing terminology from Sarkesian.

So, both O'Brien and Mac have told reporters that the two of them had many discussions about Crimson Tide personnel, their offensive tendencies, how things might be tweaked, and then going the other way how Mac might better prepare for the combine, for team interviews, and team visits.

.

Other than defenestrating Arians and costing Leftwich his job you mean?
Huh? Arians is a SB winning coach (and the oldest) and got inducted into Bucs Ring of Honor because of Brady. Leftwich is a SB winning OC and was sought after for HC jobs because of Brady. Nice try though.

Sure if everyone sucks then we are screwed.

Fact is when Josh was OC the O averaged 27ppg and Mac was a slightly above average QB. When he left and Fat Matt took over and changed the offense he sucked. What changed? It wasn't the QB.

Agree they need a WR1. Meyers, Bourne, Parker and Thornton doesn't scare anyone.

HH is a slightly above-average TE. Hes really an H back now.

I have no idea what purpose Smith has anymore. Maybe BOB can make some use out of him.
This is a really fine post. Forgive me if I screw it up by adding a few of my own thoughts.

From year one to year two the OC and scheme changed. Either or both didn't work and some of that also falls on the players including Mac. I'm assuming O'Brien will be allowed to implement whatever offense he thinks will be best suited for the given roster. Maybe O'Brien can be given say on any WRs they take in the draft too. Considering the really bad track record of everyone else for last decade.

A true WR1 is definitely needed but I like the WR2 trio of Parker, Bourne and Meyers.

Jonnu Smith was a really bad FA signing. Even if you totaled his production and looked at it as one season as opposed to two, it's still thoroughly unimpressive. He's been in the league 6 seasons with receiving totals of 157, 258, 438, 448, 294 and 245. He's got 1 TD in his two seasons with the Patriots. Either get rid of him somehow or keep your expectations really low until his bloated contract runs out.

I like Hunter Henry but they could use another TE of equal or better talent.

So BoB is back. That is good, but thinking beyond 2023 and assuming in 2024/2025 he is probably a HC candidate again. Does that mean Bill brings in McCardell, Jefferson or both to come in and restart the pipeline to replace BoB? Also would love to hear Marrone joins the staff as well. A full offensive staff of both experienced OC's/HC's and some young up and comers.

If that is the plan sign me up!
