Blount Signs with Pats (2yr deal)

I've always liked Blount, (even advocated drafting him in the late rounds when he came out of Oregon). I see no downside in signing him, and a huge upside. As we have all witnessed, he can take over a game. He has incredible speed for a big man. Now with Gray and Vereen a nice complete backfield.

Plus Blount, now has that big chip on his shoulder, remember Blount did all that damage in the bad weather, in an offense that did not have the Gronk. Imagine now you a defense in January, in Foxoboro, that has to dealt with Blount/Gray up the middle AND the Gronk down the seam. Good Luck with that!

I don't like the signing, only because of the way he parted with the Steelers. Having said that, he's still useful and a good bowling ball.

The one player I DO NOT want to see cut is Devey. He more than showed his worth as a full back against the Colts, and he's been consistent with his playing, likely getting even better considering his increased playing time.

At this point, it's more likely that 2 players will be transferred to IR than cut. That's my own opinion, anyway. They'll find a couple lower-tier guys with injuries sufficient enough to get them transferred to IR and be available for next year.

To make room for RB LeGarrette Blount when signing becomes official, Patriots plan to release DL Casey Walker, per source. (1 of 2)

We have a fullback and, according to Brady, he's the best in the NFL.

I guess that means he didn't alienate this locker room as he has so many others. He's certainly a useful complementary piece for the offense heading into grind-it-out season. But I'm curious to see who they cut...I'll be very, very surprised if they mothball James White, as many have suggested.

I'm a bit surprised by this, but there's no doubt that Blount has a nice skill set. Gray+Vereen+Blount is a solid rotation. I agree, I hope they don't put White into deep orbit. I'm still hoping to see what he can do.

When that transaction unfolds, assuming no unexpected twists, Casey Walker would be eligible to return 2 practice squad if he clears waivers

Hopefully Walker makes it to the PS. Of course, if/when Siliga is activated, there will be another decision.

I remember how useless he was at the beginning of last season and how great he was by the end. Buffalo must have been shocked -- they saw two completely different players. Very happy with this move.

I think that Blount is one of those guys who tends to overstay his welcome. He seemed uncoachable at Tamper and when first here he ran upright and danced around rather than drilling the hole as the play called for, something Gray does well. Then again he regressed as a Squealer. Assuming Ivan Fears' coaching once again penetrates his obtuse skull, Blount will stay this season and perhaps next year as well. Let's hope that going unclaimed off waivers by all 32 NFL teams has gotten his attention.

Something I forgot about and I'm not sure anyone has brought it up:

Blount back to kick returning duties?

It's possible that the situation here works for him.........maybe he does black and white bottom line no BS well........maybe he's fine when he's not around others who like to screw around (Bell) ...

Regarding Blount as KO returner, I said earlier on the thread that he averaged 29 yards a return for us last year... that's an upgrade too.

I completely misread this, never thought he would be back after his shenanigans in Pittsburgh...

Welcome the signing.. another big strong back, familiar with the system for the bad weather time of the year. We have become very deep at that position.. good to have a lot of guys ready.

Last year, Blount averaged 29 yards per KO return for us. I don't see where we lose much.

Plus, he's not a delicate flower. (j/k)

I illustrated in another thread that Blount's average heading into the Buffalo game was barely a half yard more than what NE has so far this year and more than a yard less than what Amendola has been doing. He basically had one terrific game at KR and was average aside from that.

When was the last time the patriots IRed a player without an injury? The team used to do that and was called on it (Kingsbury?). Belichick has been more "honest" with his IR lists in recent times.

I think it happens more then you think.

I believe players are put on injured reserve because...

a) are injured and will not return during the season
b) are injured and could return but because of the level of uncertainty with the healing process, are IR'd
c) are injured, will return but will be so far behind but the team wants them so the put them on IR
d) are injured, the team likes the player, will return but the team wants to IR the player but the player refuses to be IR'd and asks to be released instead.
e) the player is never "injured" but the team wants to IR the player and not lose them and because they will still have a job, goes along with the IR designation.

They will not release James White. They will talk him into agreeing to the IR designation.

I thought he was better at it than Amendola, from an eye test. Plus, Amendola makes mistakes with it, bringing the ball out when he shouldn't.

Blount hasn't been setting the world on fire this season (mainly in the recent games). He could be the oddman out once Siliga returns to the 53. Who knows? We'll see what he can do in the next few weeks.

It would be amazing if we lose our starting RB to IR during the season, and then improve our RB situation. We can judge at week 17. Does the fact that no one claimed him tell us something?
