Randy Moss was the most exciting New England Patriot ever.

I know, I know … that's like saying "Avatar" did well at the box office. My Patriots never had a player you'd describe as "thrilling," except for those two seasons when Mike Haynes returned punts (unless you count Irving Fryar's knife-wielding wife). Seeing Moss in a Patriots uniform always felt like a special treat.

We never had a guy like that before. We also knew it wouldn't last.

Continued...

I liked the article a lot. Though did he HAVE to get so reminiscent of the 2007 plays? They still hurt.

Yeah, reading that in-depth recount of that long bomb attempt to Moss hurt.

It really did. The "what might have been" from that season is still haunting me.

Thanks, Bill! (But it really was a good article. Seems he is sure the plane incident happened too. And the saga continues...)

If he would've jumped up for the f*cking ball, he probably would've caught it.

If he would've cut the alligator arms routine, he would've caught more TD's and would've had a ton more yards. Kind of like when he was in Minny - DB's lost 99.9% of the they jumped up for the ball with Moss.

Moss not jumping up for the ball still bothers me to this day.

The main thing that I took away from his article, and this is all contingent on his sources being correct, is that if the Pats were willing to cut Moss then getting a 3rd round pick out of it is a great move.

Please go re-watch Moss' career. Watch a lot of his big catches and TDs in 2007 and you'll see him FREQUENTLY do the same thing. He is great at not tipping the DB off to where the ball is. Go look at the "amazing" catches and watch the DB, give the DB a couple more inches and they break the play up then you can use hindsight to say "should have jumped".

It is what it is, if Brady throws that ball a second sooner for example, Moss may catch it in stride.... GRRR, need to invent time machine NOW!

Yeah, I just can't see why you'd put that incompletion 'on' either of them. It would have been one of the most improbably plays of all time; the fact that it came as close as it did is pretty remarkable.

I know. It's not like everybody and their uncle didn't know what was coming. And yet it was far closer than it otherwise should have been.

Which is why it hurts. Ugh, 2007 was such a crazy year. That really was about as bad as getting your heart broken. Except you NEVER move on.

that was probably the best article ive read in a long time

That video clip was the first "coverage" of that game I have seen. Nauseating. I refused to watch anything to do with it but couldnt remember that play and wanted to see how close and Brady's 70 yard throw etc. Shouldnt have. Still way too painful as sad as that sounds.

it really is not a big deal ppl......

I am convinced that 60% of the disgruntled ppl had invested in a Jersey, shirts etc of Moss................................ and now they are useless.:bricks:

I read and enjoyed the article besides all of the SB references, which I just skipped over.

Not true ... Randy told the vikings fans to drag out the 84 jerseys.

2 years from now he could be telling us to drag out the 81 jerseys.

Moreover, the Patriots are at the forefront of a pure two-tight end system and even incorporate a lot of three-tight end looks with veteran Alge Crumpler(notes).

Basically, the Patriots can be either a power running team or a wide-open passing attack without changing personnel. Since Hernandez is diverse enough to line up either tight to the line or out wide, the Patriots can alternate at will between double-tight end and three-receiver formations.

“The tight end is basically the queen on the chessboard in our game right now,” Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “You see what New England is trying to do with those guys [Hernandez and Gronkowski]. Bill understands the value of those guys and that’s why he drafted them. That’s the direction our game is going so that you can play any way you want depending on the way the defense lines up and what kind of personnel the defense has on the field.”

Of New England’s first 53 plays against the Dolphins (before the game got out of hand), the Patriots only had eight downs when they didn’t have at least two tight ends on the field.

This. Always ahead of the curve.
