Bill Belichick’s empire has fallen. How will the Patriots pick up the pieces?

They're not gone yet so don't write their epithet just yet.
For example look at what the bears did. They traded for sweat and then gave him a long term extension. The teams needs to identify Dugger as part of the future going forward and sign him now.

common consensus is that duggar/Onewenu will be gone next summer.
The Bengals didn't sign Jesse Bates who is now one of the highest paid S's. One thing is for sure, both Dugger and Onewenu will not take any "hometown discounts". Dugger could get $13-$14M per year which would put him in the top 10 of S salaries. Owenu should get over $10M which would put him within the top 7 RG's in the NFL.
also doesn't help that when he gets a good player, rather than locking them up he tells them to go to FA and refuses to pay them. this is no way to build a team.
Bill swung and missed on this tactic recently when both Thuney and JC Jackson rejected Bill's late offer.

If you are using trading a second for sweat and paying him 24.5 mill a year as what you consider smart management you have lost all credibility on my eyes.

How is not overpaying a swing and miss?

What does it Matter what they pay him? They identified a player they wanted to be part of their future. You can't shop at Walmart and expect to get Macy's quality products.

The point was Bill coming in late and making late offers didn't work. The players had already made up their minds. Signing them earlier may have saved Bill some money and turning his attention to actually improving the team rather than being reactionary and using resources to replace them.

Maybe not. But they will be free agents. Unless the money is more they will be gone.

But if they are that valuable to your team why risk losing them to free agency? With no one to replace them....

Seriously? What they pay him takes away from what they can pay the rest of the team. No way he is worth that money, and they gave up a second round pick to do it. They are paying him Myles Garret money to get 7 sacks a year.

No one is complaining that the Patriots haven’t won a Super Bowl since 2018. That would be ridiculous. The overarching theme is that the Patriots will not even face the right direction towards contending for a Super Bowl with management continuing to show extraordinary stubbornness and arrogance, in addition to their clueless player evaluations.
As long as BB is doing the grocery shopping this team has no chance of even contending in the playoffs.

He has run this team into the ground with over a decade of bad drafting.

The dude is legendary for how badly he whiffs on Wide Receivers.

But can we point to any 1st round pick who has even panned out lately?

Malcolm Brown, Dominque Easley, N'Keal Harry, Isaiah Wynn, Cole Strange, Mac Jones, and Christian Gonzalez have been his last 1st round selections in the past 10 years.

Malcolm Brown was let go, Easley is out of the league, Harry was a bust, Wynn was a mediocre and an absolute waste of space his 5th year, Strange was a reach for a guard, Mac Jones has disappointed, and Gonzalez got injured early in a promising rookie debut.

It's BB's failure to build in the draft that has really hurt the overall talent of this team. And his free agent moves used to be a strong suit but not anymore. When's the last time he found a good free agent outside of Judon?

Oh so you think that players who wanted to test free agency to find out their value would have taken less. Ignorant.

Bill might very well have offered them extensions and they didn't come to an agreement, happens all the time.

That’s a specious argument. No matter when Brady left or how it happened the mess that followed was inevitable. He was an act that nobody could follow and perform well enough to satisfy. At best it would’ve been a couple of years later before the present situation began, but it would’ve been the same.
Yeah but you are supposed to prepare for that. Unless we all think Stidham was the succession plan then that means there was none.

You don't get rid of your very successful QB unless you have a succession plan. That is ok for a losing franchise but was not at all palpable for us.

For the first time, could Belichick's job actually be at risk if he loses to the Colts in Germany?

Discussion follows:

Does anyone remember the clip of BB walking and talking with TB12 and admitting that he just couldn't get this team to play the way he wanted them to play? I do. He is fallible and knows it . He understands the cost and the ups and downs. The weak only disregard the effort and emphasize the downs while safely guarded from the same scrutiny.
Whatever is being considered The Empire was never BBs take on the game. The media onslaught is equivalent to kicking a man when he's down, but is BB really down? Is this a certainty or wishful thinking? How would a pundit know what is inside BBs mind and spirit?

Revolt maybe was the wrong word. But he shorted himself by not buying in.
We don't know why he went outside for help. Something was probably wrong inside. He has some other issues that concern me but looking around for help isn't one of those.

I vaguely remember that convo and I agree that he understands the problem now. But he's the big Kahuna of an NYFL team and should be scrutinized. And if he can't fix it then get someone else who can.

I don't feel bad for Bill because he treated the media like sh!t for 20 years and what's happening now could be called payback. Maybe if he had treated them with respect it might be different, but he didn't.

Do we really have to continue to go around in circles on this? No sane Pats fan expected anything close to Brady, probably in our lifetimes. We just didn't expect the GM of the team to let him go without anyone, and I mean anyone, to replace him. And it was done at a time when QBs were essential.

And we have no idea what would have followed if Brady stayed here and this was the team's first year without him. But we absolutely know what has happened. This is our 4th year of heading backwards and we still have no QBs.
