Bill’s first offer…

If BB did not trust that TB12 was going to be successful after a certain age, I can't see him being ok with spending big money to get Cousins. Maybe that would change if BB was totally focused on winning regular season games to pass Shula before walking away from the game completely.

but isn't that what this is about? Bill desperately wants that shula record. it's probably the only reason the split was amicable. he knows he is not getting the record here at the pace we are on.

He needs 18 wins, IIRC. The team where he has the best chance of that will be the selection criteria. Atlanta in the bad division makes sense.

No doubt, I should have been more clear. Turning towards a QB who he thinks is ready to fall of a cliff would be a desperate move for BB. He would be more willing to take that risk if he isn't worried about leaving the team in a good state when he leaves.

Cousins may have a couple of good years left. Two years of nine wins each puts Bill past Shula. If he gets two years of good play out of Cousins with a developmental rookie understudy he could leave his successor a good foundation. I was hoping he’d do that here but Jonathan and Robert got too worried about optics and paybacks, and there was a snake in the building.

Nah. Jerry would still be the face of the franchise, as they both would want. BB doesn’t need or want the limelight. The only attention he’d get would be for how many times he could repeat “we’re on to Cincinnati” without saying anything else. Media would then turn to Jerry for comment…
I agree, the biggest positive about the Cowboys job would be Jerry is the face of the franchise and is always in front of the media, that would be heaven for Bill.

If McCarthy doesn't get to the Super Bowl this year, I think Dallas is the place to be.

BB in Dallas with that roster and an owner who will open the vault...that could be something spectacular, and he'd have Shula's record within two years if he sleepwalked to it.
I really want to see him get that record. Doing what he did here in the age of a hard salary cap is Aurbachian-level coaching and GM'ing.
He could get the record next season, 15-2. LOL!

I think it’s going to be interesting to see how the patriots operate without him and how his new team operates.
We have always attributed the free agent, cap and spending policies to belichick but we would never have known if it was by choice or due to constraints from ownership.
The cool thing about the split is you get to see bb and Kraft operate without each other and learn how each impacted the other.

Falcons or Eagles

Chargers seem to want Harbaugh
If I was the Bears I’d give Harbaugh a blank check, but for some reason they seem content to stand pat.

My fear is that the Krafts go all Dan Snyder and draft all the flashy players and spend too much on big name diva FAs to prove that it was BB who did not want to bring in top talent and spend over the cap. For all the potential of having a high draft choice and a lot of cap room, this could easily go the wrong direction. Especially with a young HC who has never had to build a team and hold the players accountable on the field.

Quite honestly, if Philadelphia were to flame out in the playoffs and they canned Sirianni, BB to the Eagles would be the best fit for him. Great management, tough/blue collar city, damn near SB ready roster & he could fix the weakness of that team which is his specialty (the secondary). Long shot, but would be the best fit for him, especially at his age.

Edit: Wow…I just stumbled upon this. This is definitely BB’s best fit. All other options are irrelevant now (IMHO)

I would be really surprised if Roseman did this. He’s a good GM, and that’s a dogshit move.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago.
Bill to Philly makes sense.

I don't see a single team that is looking for a HC, not considering BB as their primary target. Also teams who are debating changing HCs will probably look into BB possibility too.

I'm pretty sure there's no team in the league that would prefer someone else above BB, it would make no sense

They don’t have to wait, they could sign him today if they wanted to.

My fear is actually the opposite. That bb has spend all these years turning a paupers budget into a kings feast, and if those were Kraft constraints, the next guy will fail miserably.

Belichick in Cleveland was not too different from how he operated from what I've researched

People are making too much stuff about the drafting of Garoppolo because Brady "was going to fall off a cliff" stuff.

Packers did it 2x with Rodgers and Jordan Love, Colts moved on from Manning. It's pretty normal stuff for a 35 yr old + QB.

That doesn't mean the coach wants to get rid of you. It means they want your replacement in place for when you're done.

Which could happen at any point after 35. Heck, Flacco was declared finished 3 years ago, and here he is at age 39 in the playoffs.

The point is, it's normal to make preparations. It doesn't mean the old guy is no longer valuable to a coach like Belichick

It's oddly reminiscent in the sense that he went against management in the treatment of the QB. He didn't want to continue with Kosar/Mac Jones anymore. This angered ownership.
