I'll use this thread to talk about and breakdown the upcoming 2021 RB class.

Kinda rare to see the SR class out shine the underclassmen. Esp at this position, but that's the kinda class it looks like rn. It's May 2020 but I don't see a particularly deep class as it stands now. Obviously we have a year to go but I see a pretty clear drop off after 2nd/early 3rd tier. The top 10-15 look like they could definitely contribute right away but in terms of true feature backs we'll need to see some step up.

How I've graded the position. Always fun to look back at hits & misses

I like the look of Najee Harris but what are the chances we take another running back in 2021 ? I think I read somewhere that 2 or 3 of our existing running backs are on their last contract year

Journey Brown is going to breakout. He has the fastest 100m time in Pa history 10.4. He’s up to 215 and benches 395 and ran a 4.29 before campus shut down.

Harris made a few moves in that South Carolina game I'll never forget. This clip especially.

Staying in shape. Looks trim?

I think we'll see next year play out exactly like this year. No one or maybe one prospect in round one, get your guy in rounds 2-3 for pennies.

Balt, Indy, Det did it right. Love the value, fit & what they do for those teams. I mean all 3 teams could have monster run games.

Agreed. They keep pumping them out. I was big on Sanders before he got a chance and feel the same about Brown. He'll be a good one. Nice ability to shed arm tackles, weak tackles at < 210. Heard he has a nice vert (40") and jump too.

Think he might have better patience than Sanders.

Man, Harris is so intriguing. Big man with patience, soft feet and hands. Can lower his pads and bruise you up. He's a grinder, kills you with consistency. 4th quarter back but can also get involved early bc of his rec skills. Big-time complement back though, change of pace - again finisher in the last 4-8 minutes. Tough, high effort prospect that wants to finish and get every yard.

Harris of Alabama, etienne of Clemson have played great thus far this season,

the two North Carolina running backs are benefitting from great o line play.

The fullback for Michigan, number 42, is someone we should look at drafting.

Johnson is jag at best, and needs to be upgraded.

I like the Michigan guy as well, but Johnson I feel has been good

Not a 2021 prospect. But certainly a guy to look at in 2022. Nation’s current leading rusher.

BGC I would definitely like to hear your thoughts about this guy. Incredible balance of good size, strength, speed, footwork. A very well balanced back through and through.

I definitely want to see more of him. Not a squaty guy but seems to have good balance/contact balance. I know he's making guys miss & picking up yac. One thing that always stands out when watching him is his patience behind the line. Let's his block a develop, lays bait and reads the 2nd level pretty well. Good patience and feel for the play. Decent little burst out the gate. He's been really good. I haven't really studied him but he's balling. Very smooth runner.

Really sets himself up nicely behind the line. Again good feel & patience behind the line.

If we let white and burkhead walk this offseason, we should look at drafting the kid from Memphis on day 3. Might be an under the radar guy that can contribute immediately, especially after Michel breaks down in game three next year.

Watching Iowa state, and their running back hall can really explode when he sees a hole. Not a lot of power, but enough to run between the tackles.

I'm also a 49er fan, and I've mostly evaluated RBs to suit that scheme, which is very different from what the Pats run. That being said, I'm a big fan of CJ Verdell as a home run hitter, and I like Khalil Herbert as a chain mover on the inside zone. Javonte Williams looks like a bit of both and a potential star in the backing for inside zone systems.

If we're talking gap systems, then obviously Najee Harris looks good, but don't try to use him in the Niners offense.

How much gap vs zone are the Pats running in 2021?

C.J. Marable has some incredible tape. I know we are stocked at running back, but I think this guy’s versatility would be huge in our offense!
