You'd have to control for draft position, though. It's not surprising 21 year olds have better careers than 23 or 24 year olds. 20-21 year olds are often third year juniors, which means they were probably big recruits as they weren't redshirted and then they made the leap after their third year of eligibility. Or they made the leap after their second year after redshirting. It's a self-selecting group. The ones at the higher end of the age spectrum are generally seniors, be it 4 or 5 years of eligibility, and those guys on average go later in drafts because they played out their whole eligibility and would have declared earlier had they been good enough. So it makes sense that guys who declare earlier generally have better careers because they tend to be more talented players, but you'd have to control for where they were drafted to really have a sense of how much it matters independent of that.
I like takes that are off the beaten path, but some of these rankings are really tough for me. Jerome Baker above Vita Vea (or even in the top 50 grades at all)? Don't overthink Barkley, either.
Callaway is undraftable for me. Far too many red flags. Any one of them on their own aren't insurmountable, but he has such a repeated pattern of poor choices. I don't think he's a bad kid, but I think he has displayed bad judgement over and over again. I'm not interested.
I like the bold inclusion of Chad Thomas. He could be a super star if he puts it all together. Seems a bit high for him, but I do like the potential.
Kyzir White and Kemoko Turay are two favorites of mine, but they both have their warts. I think they can be productive players in the league, but I wouldn't take either one in the top two rounds. They're role players who have defined skill sets -- there's a spot for them right away, but the downside is that they're not likely to expand that role due to limitations.
Anyway, I'm nitpicking. I like challenging my preconceptions.
You'll be angry after lol. Believe it or not Smith wasn't the sure fire lottery pick coming into the year. Most didn't even know him lol. So much for staying under the radar.Roquan Smith is a guy I haven't looked at even a little bit, so I'm going to watch some clips and dream of trading up.
