Bettis and Big Ben crying again about Patriots cheating in 2004 AFC championship game

In addition...

The Steelers didn't use any hand signals to send in the play. You can clearly see Cowher calling the play in via his headset while he covers his mouth.

Belichick clearly told Johnson "Goal line". Duh - 4th and 1 with Bettis out there, you better plan on a run up the gut.

Roethlisberger clearly did not change the play at the line of scrimmage, so even then, no hand signals in use.

And last but not least... EVERYONE knew that was a run up the gut.
You're right. The Spygate argument was that they were stealing defensive signs because they weren't relayed over the headset. Nothing to do with offensive plays.

My 3 favorite AFCCG wins were the 2 in Pitt and the one at KC.
my brothers favorite game was 2002 season opener at Gillette Stadium... the pa guys kept playing the Slash quote about the better team not winning over and over while we throttled the squealers 30-14... guess they forgot to change their defensive signals between January and September lol

yeah, offensive plays were sent in by radio, via helmet comms... so it was only the defensive signals that were in open view...

Right, so Big Ben and Bettis are clearly talking out of their asses. Then again, I think they were largely joking in the first place.

This discussion is not about that at all. This thread was started because Ben & Bettis chriped that the Pats stole their offensive signals during a 4th and 1 play during the 2004 AFCC game. The video in the post I quoted shows that they did no such thing and highlighted how stupid Roethlisberger & Bettis were to claim that.

They honestly think that Belichick called over Ted Johnson to tell him what play was being run in the 150 milliseconds that they spoke? Belichick basically told Johnson that it was Bettis up the gut. The whole world watching that game knew this. That's not stealing signals. That's playing sound football.

If Big Ben had checked out of that run and attempted to throw the ball and we adjusted right away out of our goal line package, then they just might - a teeny tiny bit - might have had a valid argument. But they lined up for Bettis to take the plunge and the Pats stuffed him.

Screw them with these claims. It was great defense, not cheating.

These players that claim every good play that the Patriots make is because of cheating just pisses me off. It's due to good coaching that they make these plays, not any sort of cheating. Malcolm Butler's INT was all due to coaching. Thank god they had practice footage of that very play or else we'd have the Seahawks claiming that they cheated there too.

Right, I was agreeing with you that Ben and Bettis were basically idiots for suggesting the Pats had stolen their offensive signs when that wasn't even part of the commonly-held views about the cheating scandal.

This never ends. Literally every team that lost to the Patriots in a big game has to have a few players crying about cheating without any proof.
F both of em. They got beat soundly fair and square.
The crime here is that Jerome Bettis is in the HOF.

Totally overrated.

Brady destroyed all these stupid narratives when he won ring #7 his first year with the Bucs. Now only the biggest ******s bring it up.

I wonder what their take is on the refs handing them a ring in SB40.
Was that the game the refs gave the squeels a td when bens head and not the ball crossed the goal line,

It can get confusing which playoff loss the Steelers are crying about, but Brady was knocked out of the 2001 AFCCG and the Patriots scored on a blocked FG. Bettis and Roethlisberger are crying about the 2004 AFCCG.

Anyway, there’s more credible evidence that Roethlisberger committed rape and got away with it than the Patriots stole their signals.
Slash was the one crying (literally) on 01

If you pat your head twice (for example), and it's reliably determined to be a run up the middle every single time... why the hell WOULDN'T a team act on that? That's not even illegal. That's basic pattern recognition, not so much "stealing" not-so-secret information. It would be another matter entirely if they hacked someone's email, or broke into their house, to steal some papers that revealed signals, plays, etc. But that's nowhere close to what's ever been alleged anyway.

Literally the only reason Ben has a 2nd ring was because Tom was out that season.
BOTH rings actually...

If they had called Ben Watson's forced fumble a touchback in Denver...we would have hosted the AFC title game against the Steelers in 2006.....

When the Patriots turned over all their "spying" materials to the league in 2007, there was reportedly one tape labeled something like "Miami Dolphins Offensive Signals 2006." I may have the wrong team and year, but there was definitely a tape of offensive signals. Of course, the league, being super geniuses, destroyed all those tapes so we don't know what was on that one, but it was raw meat for the conspiracy theorists. They saw "offensive signals," said "A-Ha! They were stealing offensive signals, too! Cheaterzz!!" and never wondered what exactly that meant. A coach could tell the QB the call via radio and you can’t videotape that, so what could be on this tape? Maybe it was of a team that also used hand signals at the line to change a play. In that case, anyone could see that on TV, so it’s hardly “stealing.”

2006? sideline communications with the qb started in 1994... but it might be plausible... if the comms are out for one team, the other team cant use them iirc - but im not 100% positive about that... so its plausible some offensive signals might have been gleaned in a few instances...
