Best
I'd have to say Seattle had the best, grabbed the best offensive lineman and second best safety. Detroit did pretty good grabbing Suh and moving up a few spots to take Jahvid Best. also, many are calling the Cowboys move pretty good and it only cost them moving from the third to the fourth.

Worst
Jacksonville taking Alualu or Denver trading second and third round picks to pick up Tebow.

Best: San Francisco - Added 2 of the top 5 offensive linemen in the draft. The Niners have some elite talents in their offense, and could still add Clausen, whom they had been tied to.

Worst: Buffalo - I think CJ Spiller will be a fine player, but how is Buffalo going to contend without a decent tackle on either side of the ball? Spiller will be a nice, pesky player, but for the role they would play Dexter McCluster would be as effective, and Dan Williams or Anthony Davis would have looked good here.

The Cowboys got Bryant at 24. Steal of the draft.

How can you bag on the Denver move, especially when you're giving the Patriots a pass?

I think Buffalo will try to draft a guy like Saffold, Capers, or Campbell in the second. There's still some decent offensive linemen left on the board.

Too hard to say because the draft becomes a lot clearer when the players, you know, play.

However, in terms of value points:

Denver is a winner. A well-orchestrated series of trades that got them the two players they wanted, both in the late first round that won't cost them $45M per player. Orchestrated finely by Josh McDaniels.

San Francisco is a winner. They fleeced Carolina last year by trading a mid-round second for a mid-round first. It makes no sense, but they capitalized on it today.

St. Louis is a loser. The Browns offered them multiple picks, possibly as many as 8, over this year and next year's draft. They turned it down. Sam Bradford is the latest "unmissable" quarterback who was very "missable" before all the hype. I would take Jimmy Clausen and 7 other picks over Sam Bradford.

Buffalo is a loser. If you really think you have a franchise quarterback in the crosshairs, you're going to wait 24 picks and then cry after he's drafted? That kind of strategy should be reserved for potentially good players, but not for a guy you want to be the new face of your franchise. They should have traded down into the teens, drafted Tebow there, or just drafted Tebow at #9 and faced the criticism; they were willing to draft Donte Whitner about 15 spots too high, weren't they? It's not like teams weren't willing to swap positions today.

Cleveland is a loser. To be fair, no one wanted their draft position, so they didn't have much choice. They couldn't decide between Haden or Wilson, and eventually picked Haden. Haden will sign a megadeal contract despite not being much better than Wilson. Wilson went to the Jets at #29 and will sign a much smaller rookie contract, despite not being much worse, if at all, than Haden.

Carolina is a loser. By trading away their first round pick this year for the #43 overall pick last year, yes you heard it correctly, the #43 overall pick, they had to suffer the consequences today.

Jacksonville is a loser. Congrats! You discovered a hidden talent that no one else knows about. He's rated around 40th by most analysts and no other team has shown much interest. So now that you're picking tenth, you're really going to leverage this, right? I mean, trade down, get some later picks, draft him later, and pay him less! Oh. I see. Never mind then.

Not sure about anyone else.

Why trade up to take Anthony Davis though? Was Miami shopping their pick to Green Bay or something? What a waste.

Best:

Seahawks. Neither pick will turn this team around in 2010, but both should be solid players in the NFL. Still need a DE though.

Worst:

Bills. First, they took CJ Spiller with Lynch and Jackson on the roster. Second, they couldn't get an offer to the Ravens quick enough to get Tebow. Need to address the defense and QB position if they expect to win.

my top 3 best drafts on day one are

#1 49ers they get one of the best OT and the best G in the draft big win for them

#2 the Seahawks. they get a top LT and a play makeer at DB

#3 colts they add a good pass rusher to what was all redy a good pass rushing team

my top 3 worst drafts of day 1

#1 the bills they all redy had two good RB's and they go and draft a RB with the 9th over all pick ?

#2 denver not that i don't like the players they picked but say with you want about jay cutler, and brandon marshall, they were both all pro players and he replaced them with rookies.

#3 the pats. to pass on IMO the only 3-4 DE in the draft that could have started day one ( Jared Odrick ) one year after tradeing seymour, only to draft a ST/#4 corner IMO that is a fail. i like McCourty, i just think CB was not the biggest need.

I've been down on the Pats move all night, but not because McCourty is a bad player. He's a pretty good player and graded out to about where he was drafted. I was more upset at drafting a CB. So in the end we got a good player and GAINED a third rounder today.

Tebow, however, graded out to be a mid-round selection. Plus Denver gave up picks to get him. I like Tebow, but just not where he went and what it cost the Broncos to get him.

While some people (Jaws, for example) were down on Tebow, Gruden loved the kid, and he obviously wasn't alone. The Bills were going to move up to take Tebow, so where he graded out is irrelevant. I believe, in fact, that some here have used the Jets coveting McCourty as an excuse for the Patriots taking him. I had Tebow going in the first round, and stated so before the draft began. As far as what Denver gave up, how does that matter, particularly since they gained picks in the move down that got them Thomas? Maybe it's because I'm tired, but I don't see any way that puts the Broncos at the bottom of the league's round 1.

If I saw correctly, they gained a fourth on the move down, but gave up a 2, 3 and 4 on the way up. Not sure in they ended with more or less.

They went from 11 to 13, and picked up #113.
They went from 13 to 24 and picked up #70 and #87
They went from 24 to 22 and traded away #113

That's the Thomas deal.

They went from 43 to 25, and traded away #70 and #114, while receiving #119

That's the Tebow deal.

So, realistically, they got their wide receiver and QB both in the first round, while ending up with an extra 3rd round pick (#87) in the bargain and dropping 5 spots in the 4th round.*

* I think I've got that correct, but I'm tired. Please let me know if I've erred. Here's the NFL trade tracker for anyone who wants to check:

P.S. I forgot to mention that they had 2 second round picks going into the draft, so they'll still be able to pick in round 2, at pick #45.

Let's make a deal: Follow all draft trades

Well in that case, they didn't do too bad. However, I still think he was graded too low to be considered a good pick. I kinda feel that the analysts, other than Mel Kiper, praised the move more because they felt good for Tebow, you know, because he's a nice dude and all.

I feel you about being tired. I'm heading out to the West Coast tomorrow and have a 5-hour flight at night. I forgot to pack on account of the draft. Time well spent, I guess. I sleep better in-flight if I make myself tired.

The Best, easy, Detroit (you can put the Pats done for another L on Thanksgiving day), they pick up an absolute stud in Suh, plus they trade back up a few spots and get Best.
Detriot now has a franchise QB in Stafford, the best WR in Johnson, two very good TE in Pettigrew and Scheftler, and now Suh and Best. They can now spend the rest of their picks on defense, they will not be picking at the top of the drat next year.

The worst, Jacksonville, Alalalu at #10, when they don't have a #2, horrible. I'm convicned that they wanted to trade down (and most likely had a trade set up with someone) but when Buffalo took Spiller that trade went away and they were screwed.

Vomit inducing, the Pats, I loved the two trades, wanted no part of Tebow nor Bryant, but if they don't want Kindle because of health issues, then they should have taken Oldrik, or traded down again, but taking a gunner with a first round pick, has doomed this kid to failure......

I'm not normally the spelling police, but I find it impossible to take anything you say serious when you spell "already" like that.

The Cowboys got Bryant at 24. Steal of the draft.

That was one of the dumber picks IMO. They had Miles Austin, Roy Williams, and Patrick Crayton.

Can't wait to see Romo forcing the all and getting sacked.

Who said they don't want Kindle? Last I checked, he was still available for the second round tonight.
Its not like the pats could trade back up a few spots and get him :bricks:

Expect Williams to get cut.

IMO you should go best player available and the Cowboys did just that. A Austin/Bryant combo is going to be awesome to watch.

Also - why are people saying the Bills had a bad draft?

Lynch won't be a Bill next season and they got the most explosive player in the draft who could turn into the next CJ.

And they STILL could get Clausen since he slide all the way into the second round.
