#3 the pats. to pass on IMO the only 3-4 DE in the draft that could have started day one ( Jared Odrick ) one year after tradeing seymour, only to draft a ST/#4 corner IMO that is a fail. i like McCourty, i just think CB was not the biggest need.[/QUOTE]
For those that think the Pats had one of the worst first rounds of any team in the draft, let me ask this:
If I told you a team got one of the top 2 or 3 CBs in the draft, who also happens to be the best Special Team player in the draft, with pick No. 27, and added a 3rd Round pick, plus a better 4th Round Pick in manuevering to get him, would you still call it one of the worst drafts?
If you answer that honestly, on it's face you can't say that. It's because you wanted a player drafted at a different position, that you rate them poorly.
Let me ask it this way, if the Patriots traded down 5 spots in the first round, and in doing so picked up a better position in the 4th Round, AND a 3rd Round pick, would you rather they pick their 15th rated player or their 30th rated player when they finally drafted?
I don't know that they had McCourty 15 and Kindle 30, but clearly they had McCourty quite a bit higher than Kindle, because OLB was a bigger need.
