So, Covington isn't under contract? YAY!

I don't think you can interview for a lateral position if you are under contract.
Pats probably allowed it.

There’s really no reason to worry who is still under contract. Next coach will probably clean out 95% of the staff.

GL to Covington if he gets it.

I don’t think Coordinator jobs are subject to Rooney rule.

But, by all means…please hire him Bengals as your DC

Are they stupid?

I thought they wanted to get better on defense?

This is a couple years old, maybe someone can find something newer
Here’s what the rule looks like now:

1. The NFL requires every team to interview at least two external minority candidates for open head coaching positions and at least one external minority candidate for a coordinator job. Additionally, at least one minority and/or female candidate must be interviewed for senior-level positions. Such positions include team president and senior executives.

OK, so the patriots agreed to it. That makes sense

Otherwise, are saying that we can try to hire any coordinator in the league without permission from their team, even if they are under contract. IF so, we will sign Vrabel and get to work signing, ignoring any existing contracts.

Covington was in over his head as well as a DC. Hope he gets it to further his career. He'll have to game plan for Lamar each year.. good luck!!

It’s changed basically every year for the last 5 years or so. I believe it’s now at 2 for HC, 2 for coordinators, and 1 for QB coach.
Yeah this is still current as far as I know. It's pretty asinine. I feel bad for these guys getting paraded around, especially for the coordinator and QB coach interviews. I think Covington will probably get a number of interviews due to this rule but will not actually get a DC job anywhere. He will probably go be a DL coach somewhere, which is fine because he's good at that, and I hope he eventually grows and becomes a good DC one day because I do think he is capable of it eventually.
