Belichick's 'prove it' time table.

Perception is everything. This mistake -if in fact it is - is what people will be talking about along with everything else when you talk about Bill years from now. Let's see how it plays out.

To me that 'keep the legend here no matter what' sounds like a decision an owner should be making rather than the GM. In addition, would Tom have wanted to stay during a rebuild at this point in his career, just for additional money? I doubt it; he's too competitive to do so.

I can't help but wonder how different things would have been had AB and Josh Gordon been able to avoid their off-field issues leading to Kraft ordering their releases prior to their suspensions.
But they didn’t have a fallback. Like would you rather have Tom next year or uncertainty for 20 million less cap space? Thuney and Gilmore likely aren’t here next year? I kinda would have rather not having them here this past season in exchange for the QB.

Like it really feels like we set an arbitrary cut off date on Brady without any real justification. Like we didn’t have Rodgers or Young waiting in the wings. This isn’t Manning coming off an injury and having the 1st overall in the Andrew Luck year. This is a legitimately great QB not being handed a contract or having any attempt made to keep him because we valued the cap more. It’s really an outlier in NFL history.

He doesn't have to prove his worth for his legacy, but he does have to prove he was correct in opting to rebuild his team and move on when he did without Brady.

He had no other choice. Brady wanted to leave.

The idea that Belichick has to 'prove it' especially to Patriot fans is laughable.
Thats kinda the sad part about a lot the pats fan base. There is a severe sense of entitlement for things and immediate turning on their players and coaches. Again , i feel its a lot to do with access. Like today Brady spoke on the phone with peter king ,who writes 40000 word articles, same with andy reid. They will always be favored in the media . Now its open season on BB since he doesnt give that access. And it permeates into the fanbase.
If kraft had traded BB to tampa instead and kept brady and we wouldve sucked with this team, people will turn on kraft to continue to stick with brady instead of building for the future. its very instant and myopic view .
The same people outside of boston who are praising Brady and dissing BB are the ones who called brady a system QB. Now praising brady is easy because A) he is wearing another jersey and B) gives them a chance to diss on BB

He had no other choice. Brady wanted to leave.
True, but Bill could have really gone all in for Brady after 2017. Decided not to.

Maybe in a few years we'll look back and see Bill made the right call. Hope so.

A point that many are missing.

Building a long term plan based on your QB to perform at a very high level at age 43 and 44 is not sound reasoning.

What Brady is doing now is unprecedented in sports history. To have expected this type of performance at his age as the basis of your multi-year forecast would not have been logical or rational. TB12 defied those odds in dramatic fashion; allegedly expecting this superior level of play to continue now is based solely on the benefit of hindsight.
Wish we had made Brady the Exception.:maybenot:

i think it wouldve ended even worse than now. Brady wanted out after 2018 and kraft left it on him. Seeing this team around him he wouldve been even more miserable. Ultimately the only way brady was staying was if he was sentimental about playing for one team only and living through the down periods of a rebuild. At his age and stage of his career, he wasn't going to do that like what brees did.

You can't say it was because of lack of effort. It's unfortunate Harry has underperformed, Sanu was a shell of his of his former self, and AB was a psycho.

Belichick did what he always has done to put a roster together to compete. Some of those moves unfortunately failed and Brady ultimately didn't want to be here.

The Brady that exists today never happens if the Pats don't draft him.......he most likely cooks behind some other QB and some idiot front office.

The Pats made Tom Brady

it was a symbiotic relationship

brady as we know it doesn't happen without BB & the Pats

this dynastic run as we know it doesn't happen without brady

then again, this probably all doesn't happen without dante......or troy brown.......or richard seymour.....or wes welker (although he cost us at least one, too ;) ).....etc...etc

Lol, you must be one of those people who thinks Belichick cares what the media says.

The Pats will have a new GM and coach if we don’t have a contender in 3 years.

We can’t separate GM Bill from coach Bill anymore. The clock has started, Bill laid down his bet and he better be right.
You don’t have to separate, they are the same guy and that guy is the most successful who has ever done either job in the history of the sport.

The Pats ain't going to be good for a very very long time we'll be talking about the Brady years Five years from now book it!
Why? They have at least $60,000,000 of cap space to rebuild, right now. They will
add, net additional based upon cost more than they have ever added in any 5 year period THIS YEAR. What would take 5 years?

Brady is 43. He was injured and not good the second half of last year. Nothing is certain except that at some point he will no longer be able to play. The handwriting on the wall says it was likely to sooner than later. Guessing wrong by a year or 2 at an age no qb in the history of the league has been effective, much less improve from the worst year of their career is not a damning decision. Every decision is playing the odds. Brady beat the odds. It will be a long time before the second guy to have the worst year of his career at age 42 suddenly improves at 43.

What's Belichick proving?

Belichick has a losing record without Brady.
Belichick has never won a division without Brady in 8 seasons.
Belichick is 1-1 in the postseason without Brady.
Belichick cannot win without Brady... it's what the record proves.

Brady has a winning record without Belichick.
Brady is 3-0 in the postseason without Belichick.
Brady has made it to the Super Bowl without Belichick.
Brady can win without Belichick... it's what the record proves.

Brady > Belichick
Brady is the only G.O.A.T.
Belichick - Brady = Marvin Lewis

Brady has proven Belichick's ego, arrogance and inflated self-importance clouded his decision to move on from Brady. Now Belichick's legacy is crumbling beneath him. His team floundered badly this season without Brady. He's facing having to rebuild his roster that is thin on talent due to his poor drafts and his otherwise poor roster construction. And not only did he foolishly move on from Brady but he actually believed he could insert the last veteran FA has-been quarterback left on market and win. He couldn't. He won't be able to and the team will continue to look up at Buffalo and probably Miami for the immediate future at least. And that's just the division; it's an even steeper hill to climb in the conference.

Meanwhile, Brady is on the doorstep of winning his 7th Super Bowl after winning three road playoff games (two against HOF quarterbacks). If Brady wins SB 55 then Belichick's legacy will be irreparably tarnished unless he can find another franchise quarterback to lead him on a Super Bowl run of his own.

Firstly good luck getting a veteran franchise quarterback to come to New England. What's the lure? Throwing to a 1st round bust and a FA overachiever? The inept TE's? Handing off to Sony Michel? Rodgers won't signup for that at age 38. Stafford will throw 27 picks moving out of a dome and playing with this roster.

New England is going to be a tough sell for FA's who have other financially equitable opportunities. And part of the problem is the head coach. He comes across as a bitter egomaniac who wants his players to subjugate themselves to his rule, agenda and whims. Belichick has lost sight of what made him who he is, the players, and most notably the quarterback.

Should we fire BB and hire someone else ? Give a solution now. Otherwise there is no use of following this team since they are going to suck in eternity.
Also what is knoll's record with bradshaw or walsh without montana and landry without staubach ? Every coach needs a QB. If he had lost sight of this he wouldnt have tried the Cam experiment and gone with stidham . But these guys dont grow on trees. Happens. You had a 20 yr run yet we are behaving like bills fans who lost 4 SBs. Heck even the bills fans lined up last night to cheer their team back.

The fact that everyting is just a stat proves the lack of depth in thinking. Brady didnt go on his own during SB36 for a game winning drive. its the coach who decided not to sit on the ball without timeouts and 2nd yr QB. Compare that with what matt lefluer did yesterday. If its just the player for everything then why have a coach at all ? Lets just hire some random guy to run the team and call plays.
BTW seymour and ty law shouldnt be in the hall of fame. Since they had nothing to do with those win stats. Everything was just one guy .

He had no other choice. Brady wanted to leave.
Yes he did. He's LeBron Brady. No loyalty to the team that made him. His move is like LeBron James looking at all times to move around to get to where he can win or recruit like minded types. The NFL with Brady pulling this move is turning into the NBA. Is this what the NFL has really turned into.
I can't wait to see/hear from the critics who will surely attack. Have at it.
