He also called out the TE position in particular.

If he's saying this in public... then I'd like to think the trade wheels are already in motion. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

I don't see him calling out the TE position. From the article it looks like they asked about the TE position. This doesn't mean anything.

BB will always look to see what's available at the trade deadline and if he thinks something is a good trade he'll do it.

Yeah, we just need production - that's the best way to put it.

Tune-up Cam's mechanics again, get the OL healthy, get the ball in Zuber's hands more. Work Gunner into the slot a bit more and try to get him the ball on quick screens. Byrd has been consistent, so keep looking his way. Harry ... I don't know. I like the idea of getting him the ball on end-arounds, screens, and fades to see if you can get him going but it's not looking good right now. Edelman is Edelman - tricky balance between squeezing the lemon to get production out of him vs. saving his body.

Outside of that, save for Asiasi/Keene making an appearance, there isn't a lot to work with. A trade is basically necessary at this point, and good god does the personnel department need to re-evaluate their drafting of WRs in every sense.

I do not recall ever hearing Bill talk like this. This surprises me quite a bit. Not sure this will give him great leverage in trade talks. Other teams will understand the desperation. Usually Bill is a bit more reserved.

all those plays are really meant for speedy receivers, Harry is a slug..a total bust. he would be a bust even if picked
in the 7th round.

Yeah, ok. Hyperbole much?

Eh. Anyone in the league can identify we're desperate. Hence why it took a 2nd to get Sanu last year.

I wonder who is supposed to step up and produce?

The TE corps is bad. Nothing from Keane or Assai.

The Pats WRs are all hopefuls beyond Edelman and he is lovesick via the long distance Tampa Bay bromance.

Personally, I think that the Offense is doing about as expected. Byrd and Izzo are in on over 80% of the reps, and Harry is playing more than Edelman (as is doing very little).

The OL is a miracle. Our 6th rounders are playing every down,

The Offense SHOULD be better when an OL or two comes back.

And, obviously, the Offense could be improved by adding a weapon at WR and/or TE. We just aren't going to win a lot with Byrd and Harry starting, and Edelman next off the bench (playing a lot).

BOTTOM LINE
We are a running team that needs a lineman or two back. HOWEVER, even that helps little against 8 men in the box. Byrd, Harry and Edelman do catch some passes, but they aren't serious threats. As an aside, White does very well as a receiver.

I don't know man, I feel like their best course of action is to just ride this year out with what they have, saving all their assets for next year. I know the skills position players are terrible and should've been upgraded a couple of years ago, but even if we get a decent tight end and a WR, are we really a superbowl level team? If not, then it is probably not a good idea to ship out picks for a half season rental. The only deals I would want are low cost rentals, like maybe a seventh round pick for John Ross. It is essentially buying lottery tickets and hoping we can get something out of it. This team can least afford another 2nd round pick for Sanu type trades.

time to simplify the te position...

if you want them to block, then have them block

if you want them to catch passes, then have them chip and go... no more mixed details for these guys as so far they seem to be incapable of doing the hot reads required by josh's offense...

tired of hearing about it... every other team can get rookie contributors but our offense is so damn complex it takes 3 years to catch on? there is something wrong in that equation... will leave it up to you all to figure out what part needs changing... its football... it shouldn't be this difficult...

I think that we make too much of the TE position. Sure, it's great to have a top receiving TE. In the end, such a player replace the role of a WR. If we have receivers who block, then we are OK with a blocking TE who is an occasional receiver. IMO, Izzo is doing OK in that role. Of course, we are limited in being forced to run with 3 WR's in many situations, if the second TE has no ability as a receiver.

To be more plain, if we had a top 15 #1 receiver, we'd be fine, certainly much better off. Byrd is an OK #2, and a better #3 (if Harry or Edelman could be #2).

I want better tight ends, but I think that Belichick has done what he plans to do. He brought in 2 draftees.

The true lack is at WR. As an aside, there was ZERO reason to believe that Harry would be a solid #1 this year, and that the aging Edelman would be a solid #2 (and Byrd as the solid #3). Even if this happened, we would be an injury away from having Gunner or Meyers playing significant reps.

The true lack is at WR.
where one group is weak, the other should be strong... gronk hid a multitude of weaknesses in our offense for years... and he ain't around anymore...

but this isnt about wr's... its about the zero production we have gotten from the TE position in the past two years... obviously there is a disconnect somewhere that needs to be fixed... these guys are talented... but for some reason, they cant put it together on game day...

.

Some please check if Ben Watson is off the testosterone shots or was it fertility drug?

More practice, practice makes perfect .
Maybe more practice will help our WR's separate, perhaps not.

Perhaps, everyone is right. Cam simply needs to understand that scrambling and then expecting to have someone open just won't work. He needs to throw the ball away. Of course, other QB's expect that extra time will help someone get open. Few corners can cover for that long.
