Belichick: September may be an extended pre-season for Patriots

Yeah, Ted's personal hatred of BB is obvious. Then he tries to separate that from acknowledgement of BB's superior coaching ability and it can get confusing, especially when he criticizes where the team is at overall.

You're right about needed perspective not being there. Although, I tend to trust Greg Bedard's takes more than not and he has painted a pretty sad picture overall.
Lotta drama in Bedard's reporting as well.

Hes gotta eat, too.

I don’t know why people take every time I post as an opportunity to smack talk. We’re just talking football.
Perhaps you should post elsewhere

As someone who has brought up this specific point not too long ago and actually thinks BB is dead wrong on keeping up this part of his approach to the game:

You are transparent and we both know this isn't true.
It’s not an ”approach” it’s an acknowledgement of the reality that teams are still gaining an identity and fitting together for the first 1/4 of a season. He didn’t say “for the patriots”.

There's a difference with Bedard, though, as I see it. His income draws from people subscribing to his site for info with some depth to it. So he's less invested in just stirring the pot to provoke people into listening/participating a la Felger's crew, for instance. But like I said earlier, it's hard to find ANYONE suggesting the Pats can muster a strong start to the season.

The problem is Ted still has valuable nuggets to offer here and there, having played in the NFL especially for New England. But I must say, media negativity toward the Patriots this preseason has been relentless across the board. That, along with dismal performances thus far, has been damn depressing. In my 28 years as a season ticket holder I can't recall a more pessimistic vibe around this team heading into a new season.
What's should be a rebuilding bump in the road for a team not winning a playoff game for 3 years that's coming off a 20 year dynasty is an eternity for those spoiled by it. The BB/TB dynasty is over. We have to face it. As a long time you remember the dark days. Ted Johnson had a pretty good hand dealt to him. He's pretty similar to the sports reporters that raid that same wave. I will be patient but I don't expect it will ever be the same again. What we had here with the Patriots will probably never be duplicated again.

No wonder BB is so well-paid, when he speaks, it's for the whole league!

Ok, look, I won't drag much, I understand where you're coming from, and what you said is obviously true.

What I don't like: Being so forthright, public about this normalizes a slow start. Think this over, bc I really dont' want to go back and forth here, which is what gives op his weird boners. It's not even Football specifically, it's "Team psychology" if you will.

Let's agree to disagree here, just on this point, only.

Yeah, that’s not been the case in the past. Those are some divisional games up front. Bill has ALWAYS said how important those….and they are.
Hes stating facts, lower all expectations at this point.

I sadly tend to agree. My expectations for 2022 have gone from decent to worried.

I understand all that and don't disagree. However, purely from a player personnel perspective this team should be in the playoff hunt. I'm very concerned how BB has handled the coaching transitions from last season.

Main difference is that the teams of the last 20 years played in a division and conference where they could start 0-4 if they wanted to and still make the playoffs. The AFC and AFC East is significantly more difficult now.
Mainly because the Patrots aren't dominating.

True story: the Belichick Patriots had a better record against the rest of the NFL than they did the AFCE. In fact, they even have a better playoff record!

Its pre emptive excuse making. It implies that the fans should not expect good performance until week 5. What the hell is training camp and 3 preseason games for.

I think Bedard works hard. He isn't lazy. Hes cogent.

I just don't think hes right often and def plays to the crowd- which he should.

Building the team.

But that's not what everyone wants. Many want statistics and numbers to either be able to crow or moan about the draft. Others want to skip right to the season from the first rep in proclaiming their ability to tell the future and all the outcomes to be revealed. Some think a team is the result of just walking on the field.

Team are made of highly skilled players, but that's far from the only thing they're made of.

This is just flat out absurd during that twenty years Brady and Manning usually led the two best teams in the conference. You're an absolute moron if you think the conference is more difficult now.

Even if we say Mahomes is on the path to be in that group there is no one else even remotely close.

And you wonder why we always give you crap when you speak up around here.

Comes to the forums, posts a tweet about a topic that we literally all know here, but most likely with not so good intentions...

Then plays the victim.

How long have you been following the nfl?
I hope its only a few years. Otherwise you have an alarming lack of knowledge of nfl football. Clueless.

The conversation is about making the playoffs. Takes more than 1 hall of fame qb in the conference to keep us out of the playoffs. But Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Burrow, R. Wilson, Jackson, and some other decent guys with great supporting casts (Carr, Tua) could certainly make things more difficult for us.
Also, Brady was on our team lol. Not sure why you would include him in the discussion of the difficulty of the conference from the Patriots perspective.
