Belichick admits Stidham injury might have caused demotion

He didn't admit the injury caused demotion, but the amount of time Stidham missed because of it in an already COVID compressed offseason just made it very tough for him to catch up. In other words he didn't built up any particular lead even before the injury so once he missed some reps he was too much behind.

Especially since we're essentially dealing with a different offense this season.

Hmmm...Greg Bedard claims that Stidham was never injured and that he bowed out of training camp because he couldn't hack the competition. Belichick and the Patriots are really committed to that "injury" lie.

bowed out of training camp? what took his toys and went home? i'm pretty sure a professional athlete wouldn't do that? Especially considering he managed the competition perfectly well as a rookie =

I subscribe to BSJ, and I’m not really sure Bedard was intimidating that there was no injury. There were multiple reports at the time that Stidham underwent tests at a local hospital because of it.

Bedard has reported that the Patriots were unhappy about how Stidham handled the situation without reporting why they were as far as I’ve seen.

My take is Belichick was unhappy that Stidham’s camp let out that he was hurt and was checked out at the hospital. Talking about injuries and leaking injury information is still frowned on by Patriots brass especially when it’s done as an excuse for his poor play early in camp.

Who cares why? One thing is clear to me:

Hoyer: The veteran guy who can start in a pinch and be EXPECTED to not make mistakes (didn't happen on MNF, but I give him a pass this one time).

Stidham: Throws a better ball and runs better too....BUT he will "push" things and take unnecessary risks due to inexperience.

The difference between the two is experience and reps...that's it. Had Stiddy had a full camp without Cam...I am pretty sure we would be 2-2 right now with him as the starter.

Stidham to me definitely has the gunslinger look as a QB. Those QBs throw lots of picks.

Not only did he not have a lead but I remember Reiss reporting that Stidham threw like 7 interceptions in his first 47 throws in training camp. So he certainly didn't impress.

.

Drafting a QB in 2021 is the top priority.

Scoreboard indicates....
Stid 7
Hoyer 3

I think someone from he hospital was also who leaked that Stidham had a hip issue and that's how it found its way onto twitter the night before the Pats officially let beat guys know.

Keep McDaniels away from draft evals and the war room during draft day. He is terrible at evaluating or developing offensive skill players.

Yeah, we saw how that kid taken with pick 199 was careless when he pushed things and took risks back in ‘01. Made it obvious inexperience inevitably leads to such problems.

You believe bedard over the coach and player. Even when the player went to the hospital for tests? Interesting way to go through life.

Agreed. You take this tack, you gone.

I knew I should have put in an emoji in my original post, like maybe, to denote sarcasm. Lesson learned.

That's a good point about Stidham not having any problems with training camp in his first season. Unfortunately, Bedard believes that Stidham turtled during the camp QB competition and the injury story is crap.

So, either the Patriots concocted a fake injury story, sent Stidham to a hospital during a pandemic to give it credence, and kept him on the team even though he's a quitter or Stidham really had an injury and that's why he fell to #3 on the depth chart. It's tough to know what to think.

(Clarification for Andy: I believe what was posted in the OP. Stidham was hurt in TC and that caused him to lose ground in the QB competition. The alternative is just too ridiculous.)

You must have watched a different kid than I did. Back in '01, Brady did not take many, if any, risks at all. He always made the high percentage play...hell..it was why he held onto the job even when Bledsoe became healthy. I don't even think we unleashed him any time that season other than the Saints game and at the end of Superbowl 36. Hell, even in the snow bowl game...he was hit by Woodson because he pulled back on throwing in the direction of a CB (Eric Allen, IIRC) that was going to jump the route (after overhearing Brady/Weiss discussing the play on the sidelines).
