Belichick’s Trade Value.

If I was the owner of a talented but underperforming team like the Chargers, I absolutely would give up a 1st.
I agree. Bill at the least could get 10 wins per season and possibly get another title in the process. It would be a no brainer as long as he was willing to change coasts.

New England gave up a 1st, a 4th and a 7th for him, and that was before the twenty year long NFL Dynasty/reign of terror/Dynasty. You have to weigh that against his age, but even with a 50% legacy discount, that’s like a 1st and a 3rd, easy. A truly talented team with draft-cash but weaknesses at the helm would take that. There is a precedent, obviously— him.

He likes NFL history and he would likely be the first NFL coach to basically trade himself twice. It sort of augments his legacy narrative. He never gets fired. He ****s off for draft picks. We get a nice bounty and a fresh start with new star spangled bombastic AF red, white and blue uniforms with stars on them and ****.

Kraft would obviously know, but Belichick would get credit for the trade and look like a total G.

Belichick ‘trading himself’ for a 1st and change turns his next team into a media-circus, they will probably get Hard Knocks, it sets us up nicely for a real rebuild, and he gets a media-crafted legacy-fixer say-goodbye-to-the-NFL-on-a-winning-note opportunity, after making trade history, with a new, well constructed, hungry ass team that he can bring renewed credibility and goals to.

Or he fails more without Brady I dunno he’s on the other team now who gives AF.

You might roll your eyes, but it’s a win, win, win for everyone, and Belichick has trade value. The “everybody sucks but me” pitch isn’t without merit. Hopefully this offseason he starts shopping himself around. Most gangsta’ possible way to write the last page of the Brady/Beiichick Patriots era, with a self trade— He doesn’t have to resign in shame, he gets set up, we get set up, and everybody’s happy, except Mac Jones who is fired.

BELICHICK I HOPE YOU READ THIS.
Yes I read it.. it is what it is.

72 year old coach who hasn’t had a good season in 5 years, and will likely retire in a few seasons. Let me think about it…

Dont think 72 year old head coaches and/or GMs trade for much these days

Belichick is close to retirement, so that alone diminishes trade value

Belichick may not even desire to go and continue coaching elsewhere, albeit maybe for a very small number of organizations (like Giants maybe?). I doubt at this point in his career he'd want to start over somewhere new

He'd also want full GM responsibilities still, I doubt he would want to give that up at this stage in his career either. I can't imagine too many teams being interested in turning over the entire Football Ops control to a 72, soon to be 73 year old

Also don't underestimate what that would do to our team in such a hypothetical scenario... If Belichick left the Pats and continued football ops in another organization, we would probably lose so many staff members it would make our head spin..

We would literally be starting over from scratch, having to hire a new head coach, GM and coordinators.. If BoB didnt get the HC gig, would he be on board with everything and stick around long term, or just finish out his contract next year and move on? Maybe Mayo takes the HC job, would BoB be ok with that and want to stick around long term? Who knows.

So you're potentially looking at a full rebuild of HC, GM, OC, DC and countless other assistant type coaches, etc. Then factor in how many free agents we'd lose to him because of his familiarity with them, he'd be a lot more comfortable paying for guys he knows than other FAs

We would be looking at like a 4-5 year complete rebuild with total question marks in terms of the new leadership and their ability to build an entire new winning football program.. and you don't have to be a genius or have been on these forums for as long as I have to know that most fans don't have the patience for such an endeavor. They'll say they do right now out of anger and frustration, demanding sweeping change to temporarily quell their rage, but it would just be more gasoline on the fire as we went thru the growing pains of a rebuild process and there's no way boston fans would tolerate a slow/gradual rebuild process... no new staff would have a realistic chance to do it without the rage of fans demanding we tear it down and start over.. and then we become the Jets

Last week really took a hit on my spirits for this year, but not because we lost its because of WHO we lost.. This team is just too injured, although the JC Jackson trade and return of Jonathan Jones could help provide the lifeline the defense needs to keep going. Such a bummer tho, so so look forward to football season and the start to this season with the injuries has been more frustrating and sad than the losses have been. Its going to be an uphill climb the entire season, I just hope they can figure it out but I've tempered my expectations

Gotta give you points for creativity.

72 year old coach who hasn’t had a good season in 5 years, and will likely retire in a few seasons. Let me think about it…
He had good seasons 2 and 4 years ago and a SB win 5 years ago. All these bottom feeder teams would kill for a playoff making 12-4 or even a 10-7 season.

I'd ignore this thread but it's got to be one of the most ridiculous threads ever created in PatFans.com's long history (and that's saying something).
I believe the phrase "not sure if serious" was created for threads like these.

I swear hearing people talk about BB reminds me of all my friends who crapped on TB12 his final Pats year who just wanted to get rid of him because he was a washed up diva.

I think if we moved on from Bill he’s calling his own shot and Kraft owes him that decency.
If they decide to move on from Bill (not my choice) then they need to do what's best for the team, not for Bill.

Other than being “promoted” to a ceremonial position upstairs or a straight retirement from football, I’ve always thought a “trade” of Belichick by the Patriots to be the smoothest and most dignified way to end Bill’s Patriots coaching career. I just never could see a likely scenario for it until now.

Bob Kraft and Josh Harris, the Washington Commanders new principal owner, are good friends. The Washington Football Team is coming off the embarrassing and unsuccessful reign of their former owner and are looking to improve their competitive status on the field and their reputation off it. In addition, public support for a new stadium is essential to the future of the franchise.

Who would be better to do that than Bill Belichick? For Bill, he’d be able to go back the area in which he grew up, return to the NFC East, and get to do things fully his way with his people again.

Bob and Bill have wanted to split for a couple of years now. It’s a credit to both men that their relationship lasted as long and was as successful as it was. But, the length and success just makes breaking up a hard and delicate thing to do.

If Bill really wants to keep coaching for a few more seasons because being a football coach is who he is regardless of being in his 70s, I really hope this scenario plays out. A draft pick or favorable swap of picks for the Pats would be very helpful in the transition to Coach Mayo.

If this thread's so bad then why are you here?

Wow! I'm not sure how much they'd get for Bill, he'll be older and less likely to stick around. But the timing does seem to work and it fits nicely.

I'm sure that moving from Bill would be difficult, more for some than others, but we'll never know what Mayo (or anyone else) can bring until we see it. And it's not about the coaches anyway as much as it is the players, which could make the GM selection the most important.

If I were to humor this (I don't really think this should happen), I'll say this: if I was the other team, I'd literally fork over more if he'd accept a DC position. Then it's worth it. You are ensuring that the value of those picks would be made up in a coach who can draw blood from a stone with whatever talent you have on D.

Why wouldn’t you want to get draft compensation for Bill leaving? Kraft himself has been emphasizing the want for results that aren’t happening. A trade sets all parties up for the future and lets us part ways with Belichick in a much more dignified way than we parted ways with Brady.

yea i gave my initial LOL while out to eat with the family waiting for our terrible waitress while the wife was in bathroom with my son

then unfortunately decided to dignify it with a real response

its going to be a long year

As General Manager, Belichick can contact every NFL team in the league that intrigues him, pitch what he can mold the team into, flash his rings, casually joke about how much Mac Jones sucks, and get the highest possible draft value he can because it’s going in the history books. A 1st and.

There is no better farewell to New England than that and it’s practical AF since he no doubt wants to redeem his place in the pantheon of NFL GOAT coaches.
