Bedard's source says Maye isn't ready to start and there are things with the offense that he is "working through"

Red flags continue to pop up on this guy.

Can't figure out the footwork
May require a limited playbook
Frat boy / Jeff Spicoli personality...........

I remember hearing noise from GB with Jordan Love while he was sitting, but it turns out someone just wanted to start rumors. In this case, I think NE is just finding reasons to not play him due to how badly constructed the OL is. We've already seen him play in the preseason and he's clearly outplayed Brissett.

If true and he needs so much time to be ready, was it really worth taking him at 3.

Could have traded with Minnesota and had 11 and 23 picks and taken McCarthy and and Xavier Legette.

Drake Maye is NOT a can't miss generational talent. McCarthy or Penix just as good if not better, as both are more NFL ready.
Allen needed time and now he’s one of the best in the league. Mahomes and Brady sat a year, and they became the best of their generations.

Kinda silly to say because he’s not ready day 1 that we should have taken someone else.

Does bedard know he's a mouthpiece or is he unaware that he's being used?

So last week it was leaked how good Maye looked in practice, now this week it’s leaked that he’s not ready.

Whatever narrative they want to push they’ll leak to the media.

Agree 100%.. in retrospect Zappe even outplayed Brissett.. we were told competition.. that's how players earn jobs.. Drake earned the job and becuase the OL is abysmal he is forced to watch terrible QB play of What NOT to do. Even before we drafted Drake the message was draft and develop him. I don't think the organization forsaw how soon he would adapt, and be ready. Even when Brissett has had time he is missing open guy's.. by 2,3 yards.

Agree. I keep hearing that.. those organizations had great QB play be it Alex Smith, Rodgers, farve.

We have NONE of it. We asked a career back up to mentor Drake.

Assuming this is true, sit him as long as he needs. Bedard wouldn't say what it is that he is working through. But he says Rapaport's report that Maye is a ways away is what he is hearing.

Like anything else, what does "ready" mean to the coaches. If he is so bad after one quarter of the season that he can't replace Bissett, that would be a problem in my mind.

I hope so. But Miami has more to work with that we do. I would not be surprised to see a struggle.
I expect to see more of Huntly running. I don't expect us to shut down Hill/Waddle/Achane. Anticipating another disappointing Sunday. Please prove me wrong.

What could be worse? Brissett is ready for part of the offense either, the part where we pass the ball.

The organization is going out of their way to public convince Maye they think he is worse than the slug we are putting out there.

Great way to wreck his confidence. Dude, you are so bad we would rather play THAT guy.

If this is true, I think we made a bad draft pick. If Maye isn’t capable of picking up the simplest offense in the NFL he may be a dummy.

Interesting that shortly after taking down Lazars comments that the players want Maye playing, and sending Lazar to the principals office a source that refuses to be identified tells Bedard Maye is ****ing up.

This is BS. The dude outplayed Brissett in the preseason which really didn’t take much.

He’ll be playing soon.
Drake Maye had 34 passing attempts across 3 games in the pre season, mostly in controlled environments against back ups (one game of which was against the back ups of the worst defense in the league last year). Jacoby had 14 passing attempts. Never more than 7 in the pre season.

That's such a meaningless sample size to say that it means Maye is ready.

No source has anything to gain by saying he's ready. Everyone is aware he'd be an upgrade over Brissett, and for a source to spill that and confirm it would only draw more ire.

I wonder how he's looking against less vanilla defense looks.
Everyone on this board last year was "aware" that Zappe would be an upgrade over Mac. Then he played and had the same ****ty trajectory downward until he was playing worse by the end of the year. Everyone was aware two years before that Stidham was an upgrade over Cam.

People just want to believe since the current guy sucks that the guy on the bench is going to come in and save everything. It's been a thing for awhile.

Maye was always going to be a work in progress.

Brock Purdy lit up NE's less vanilla defense looks....and he was Mr. Irrelevant.

Blue chip Maye must be killin it.

But if he's not.......
Brock Purdy was a lot better than people thought and also is on a much better team and I wouldn't exactly call this statline "lighting it up"

Mahomes and Brady weren’t needed as rookies they had capable QBs in front of them. Both would have beaten out Jacoby Brissett.

Allen’s a great example. He gained valuable experience while the team was being build around him.

If he was truly not ready to play, he wouldn’t be the #2 QB, one snap away from playing at all times.
Counterpoint: if he was truly ready, he'd be playing. There's no incentive to bench him if he's actually ready. He's come in, look much better, you'd at least have something to give the fans a bit of hope for the future. The biggest reason to not play him is if they are worried that he can't handle it right now and will look bad, it will effect his confidence and the fanbase might reject him.

And yet he was severely outplayed by Maye in the pre season.
Brissett threw 14 passes in the pre season. 14 passes divided across 3 games isn't really something to use for much of a valid comparison. Hell the only statistically good performance Maye had in the pre season was when he had a good game against the Commanders backups. Which is hardly impressive and Brissett got knocked out of that game, so I don't know how you use that to make a comp against the two guys.

The only thing we really learned in the pre season is that Maye has a better arm, which we already knew.
