Bedard's source says Maye isn't ready to start and there are things with the offense that he is "working through"

Mayo himself said that Maye was outplaying Brissett during training camp. If Maye is 'ways away' how far is Brissett and why is he playing?
Brisset knows the AVP offense.

If true and he needs so much time to be ready, was it really worth taking him at 3.

Could have traded with Minnesota and had 11 and 23 picks and taken McCarthy and and Xavier Legette.

Drake Maye is NOT a can't miss generational talent. McCarthy or Penix just as good if not better, as both are more NFL ready.

I remember when Mac Jones was the most NFL ready out of his class.

Both aren't sure things either. Yeah Maye is not a guarantee but he has has a higher upside than any other QB in this draft and that's very hard to turn down.

Yeah, I don't know why you wouldn't take Maye, even knowing he was a work in progress. I think they just misjudged how badly Brissett would play and how the calls for Maye to start would come sooner than they wanted.

I said in another thread - If I had to guess, he's probably still not doing awesome playing from under center. Takes a while to get really comfortable with that. It looked a little haphazard in preseason. But when they run shotgun stuff in practice he probably looks awesome and wows the other guys, which causes reporters to write the stories about how good he is. So in a way both things can be true.

Van Pelt is probably trying to walk the line of holding Maye out until he's good at all, or most, of the offense - even if it means continuing to play Brissett, who has unfortunately been poor at pretty much everything and getting worse. If Brissett gets rocked and has to leave the game then they'll play Maye, but they'd have to run a limited playbook. That's all my guess, anyway.

Yeah, that's what Bedard said, too (about having to run a limited playbook). At that point, just play Maye in shotgun and work on under center in practice/the offseason.

That's too easy. Let's just make everyone live on Pepto & Whiskey.

That's what they'd do if they were forced into it but they won't for right now. They may have to do it anyway if Brissett continues to look this bad for another couple of weeks.

Bedard said that is Maye goes in, they might need to simplify the offense for him. That's interesting. There's clearly some part of the offense that Maye just isn't getting yet.
Or it's just standard procedure to simplify some things when you go from a 31 year old vet to a rookie 10 years younger.

No. Just no. I like Maye, but he is not the guy with "the higher upside." There's a reason he wasn't among the first 2 QBs taken.

Upside is just that though. It doesn't guarantee anything. Those guys are older and more polished and I believe that's why they went sooner. Maye has the size athleticism and arm to do great things.

The worst thing that could happen this season is looking this game.. to Huntley at home. In many ways would be worse than the Colts game last season in Germany. New regime, setting a foundation, trying to set standards and keeping players in gadged. If they loose I can bet you players check out and start booking off season vacations. If Mayo continues to say Brissett gives the best chance to win the team will tune him out.

We all know the obvious that Drake is more than ready. Go figure cousins had in one game almost as much as Brissett has on the season. Another loss Sunday I think we see maye. What do you think?
I hope so but it seems they aren't ready to play him and Jacoby continuing to suck doesn't change that. I don't know what it's going to take.

Injury

Patriot Sources, LOL.
He was ready the day he was drafted. Bedard even mentions Rapaport and says he has a similar report but all Rapaport said was that he's not ramped up from more than 30% of reps so he was a ways away from starting because the coaching staff is not prepping him to start, not that he wasn't ready play.

Gee, I wonder who the former Packer beat writer during Eliot Wolfe time in Green Bay would be using as a source? I wonder if the GM pushing the "Packer Way" might have an agenda to combat the criticism?

The guy making Mayo sit Maye even though Mayo admitted he'll play the best and Maye is better than Jacoby?

This is not too hard to figure out.

Red flags continue to pop up on this guy.

Can't figure out the footwork
May require a limited playbook
Frat boy and/or Jeff Spicoli personality...........

I'm thinking Jacoby would have to have an injury like an ACL or shoulder something where he absolutely can't go.. I can bet you he plays through Injury now becuase he knows if Drake gets in he is back where he belongs.
