Bedard: There was second guessing about Mayo over summer and him getting a second year isn't guaranteed

There was a report of a veterans-only meeting about pulling together. So I think Mayo's soft comment did what it intended.
Hopefully...

The defensive coaches also pulled their head from their rears and put another DT on the field yesterday to stop the bleeding inside against the run. It was a in-game adjustment a week too late but at least they figured it out.

We have young coaches along with a young QB, hopefully they learn just as fast as Maye does.

If we end up with a top two pick then yesterday was great.

If we fall into the 8, 9 and 10 range cause we won a useless game against the Jets then that's some loser level ********.

I cant even trust Mayo to do the right thing
Bad take - we need wins to right this ship more than a top 5 pick. We have our QB. Even if we end up 2-15, we could end up picking 5th or 6th - look at the standings, lot of bad teams. So let's get some more wins, pick 7th-8th, and if Drake leads us to a couple of upsets and we pick 10th, that's great.

As a fan I'd rather see them make improvement over the final half of the season. I don't root for a draft pick, especially when I don't have faith in Wolf's ability to draft. I want to see them play better, make fewer mistakes and penalties, want to see continued growth in Maye.

Playing for draft picks is what loser franchises do. We don't want to be the team that "wins" the offseason every year only to win 2-4 actual games... no thanks.

We are a loser franchise and the only way out is the draft.

This is a bad take.

2021/2022/2023 you saw what 7-9 wins did for you.

Try telling that to Jete fans. Winning begets winning, losing begets losing. You build a program by doing everything possible to win games. Drafting smarter is the answer, not aiming to draft higher.

No it's not... the only way out is to fix the culture, coaching and improve the talent.

A #1 pick didn't fix Detroit. GM Brad Holmes, head coach Dan Campbell, OC Ben Johnson and DC Aaron Glenn fixed the Lions.

Yeah but I think I made my point pretty clear. What you're saying they need to do and what they are doing are not the same. They don't have the coach, they Don't have the GM, and they don't have to players.

They have to start over and the sooner people realize it the better.

Yeah I understand the logic that if we keep losing will continue to lose. But what is it you think we've been doing?

They need better players and the only way to get them is in the draft If anyone denies that then they're not being honest and they don't know what they're talking about.

if we were at week 15, maybe. It's week 8.

You're not watching the same thing as I am If you think they're going to be competing.

You're only sitting yourself up for disappointment. I've accepted what they are and I accepted it all the way back in the spring.

While I am hoping for a higher draft pick and wasn’t happy winning with a very flawed performance yesterday, and am not a fan of the Krafts, Mayo, and our coaching staff in general, what you say is true, and 2001 was the proof of this.

Regardless of winning the SB, we started off with a losing record and lost our franchise QB for most of the season, and had to deal with a 6th round QB as his replacement.

Rather than gain the benefit of a high draft pick, we got something better,

We got a winning attitude.

Maybe... or maybe the young GM and Coaches also improve at their jobs, which is entirely possible because we've seen it happen.

Festy, they've gotta start stacking wins. Talking draft position in October is too soon. They have to completely re-invent the culture of winning here, top down. Playing for another top 3 draft pick is Jete-ian.

Yeah I mean if we just lost more in those years we could have avoided 4-13. Not sure what kind of logic can be applied to reach this conclusion.

Y

Yes. I'd like to hear what crazy logic you use to reach your conclusion

Probably not the logic you used against trading down and accumulating assets.

Id love to know how you plan on getting talent in here on 7 draft picks a year hahahhaa

I'm not against trading down necessarily. I'm a little lost as to what you're getting at. If I said something last year then yeah there was no way I wanted to trade down with Maye on the board.

If you're talking about next year I'm not making any hypotheticals but if we're talking about another top 5 player I'm probably going to want that player instead of an extra draft pick.

Now I'm still very confused how losing more in 20-22 would have prevented going 4-13?

Very impressed that Mayo got the team to keep fighting when the season seemed lost. I absolutely did not think he had it in him. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt & see how this plays out.

I’m beginning to see AVP, McAdoo and the offensive staff as an asset. Maye seems to be getting good coaching and getting that OL to play at the level we saw on Sunday indicates someone over there knows WTF they are doing.
