His big spending was on Smith, Agholor, Judon and Henry. Bourne and Godchaux were not big contracts. Smith and Agholor were total busts, Judon was great, and Henry is good when healthy. And that was much better market than the dogshit that was available this market.

?? If you don't spend big and still find good players, how is that not good? I'm not getting you on that.

As for Alghoolor's contract, $11m is the going rate for that kind of WR these days. Regardless, this was characterized as a poor FA class or a nothing, but Judon, Henry, Bourne, Peppers and Godchaux is a very good FA class. Good have used 5 good new players like that this year.

I made a post yesterday about Mayo's experience (or lack thereof) and it got me wondering... Honest question: Can anyone think of a HC with less coaching experience than Mayo when he took the job? He had 5 years experience when he became HC (and all of it was as a position coach). Please note the following constraints:

1) College coaching experience counts as coaching experience. Some guys have zero NFL coaching experience when they move from college to the pros, but they still have years in college.

2) Interim coaches filling in to finish a season when the HC gets fired does not count. I am talking about an offseason hiring.

3) Let's keep it to fairly recent history. I don't want to hear how in 1933, ole' Goober McClusky took over the Decateur Staleys with no experience

I am not aware of any other than a guy like Saturday who got hired mid season as interim.

He hasn’t lost the team, they rebounded and regrouped through all the criticism. Losing the team would be the only way Kraft would have canned him, and he hasn’t.

It was sort of weird because they didn't seem to show any signs of change in locker room conversations/interviews, but then there was a big change on game day. Curious what kind of differences there were behind the scenes.

Either way, this was a big win for Mayo - no chance he's gone before season's end now. IMO, still a chance he's gone after the season if they fizzle from here forward, but based on how they played today even despite their stud QB leaving the game, I think there's probably not much chance of that actually happening.

Still a long way to go, the feeling after the cincy win was great and then the next 6 weeks happened. Im hoping for the best but we need to see this kind of effort more often than not. Not necessarily wins but you wanna see fight and hope.

I'm surprised personally. But it does paint a level of "realness" I suppose. I just wish he wouldn't back off what he said so much in interviews. "They're soft" but then days later "they're not soft, they're just playing soft." Commit to what you said man.

That said, seems like the players bought into it. He's preached a message of being honest with them and asking them to be honest with him. I guess he's held up his end of that bargain, and they all definitely like him. Just weren't respecting him as a leader lately, not listening. I'm sure he did more than what we saw in the public eye. Hopefully he keeps it up and this can be the start of something good.

Thing is, then people also threw a **** fit about him backtracking. Hopefully he learned a lesson about the media last week. Despite doing his best to be "superfriends" with them all, they ate him alive the first chance they got regardless.

LOL, Bill learned the very real lesson about the media to which you refer very early on in Cleveland over 30 years ago. When you're a professional sports figure, particularly in management, the media will turn on you in a split second if there's a hot story involved. If you believe you can count on any of them to treat you fairly and/or objectively when there's a "hot take" involved you're either an idiot or a naive fool. Or both.

I will say, one thing I thought of today - if Mayo DOES somehow turn this around, doesn't that make him a pretty good coach? To take a situation this bad (granted, largely of his own doing) and turn it around into a competent successful team who is winning games would be monumental.

I don't really have a lot of hope he can do that, but if he did, I'd certainly view him in a different light.

If he does turn it around and the fact that BB couldn't get things turned around after 4ish years, could mean a couple of things. He got lucky (doubtful) or he is a good coach or a bit of both.

It is amazing what the stress of a job will do to someone. It can bring out the best in someone or the worst. At least getting a PIP at a normal job somewhat directs you as to what needs to be done.....I just cannot see RK doing this lol.

They won and had to comeback to do it, no small feat, they've won a lot of games like this over the years they were great. It means they don't give up and try to the last second.

I saw two bad (1 win) teams, with one playing slightly better than the other at home, barely enough to win.

Better than another loss, and it's always good to beat the Jests.

There was a report of a veterans-only meeting about pulling together. So I think Mayo's soft comment did what it intended.

As a fan I'd rather see them make improvement over the final half of the season. I don't root for a draft pick, especially when I don't have faith in Wolf's ability to draft. I want to see them play better, make fewer mistakes and penalties, want to see continued growth in Maye.

Playing for draft picks is what loser franchises do. We don't want to be the team that "wins" the offseason every year only to win 2-4 actual games... no thanks.
