Bedard: There was second guessing about Mayo over summer and him getting a second year isn't guaranteed

5-12 doesn’t equal “winning solves everything”

Going 4-6 down the stretch and showing we can actually run the ball /stop the run would be a considerable step forward. Of course It doesn’t solve *everything* when youre talking about the end goal but when it comes to all the noise around mayo losing the team and possibly getting canned, which is the discussion at hand, it would.

That one has been debated to death. It's all about how much risk you are willing to admit and what the reward is for taking it. I'm just glad he's in one piece and I hope he makes it through the end of the season with no serious injuries. He's starting now and there's no going back, especially given how well he's played and how much more advanced he is than many thought (including me). He's grown quickly since training camp, which is another sign he's going to be an elite QB.
It's not like the line is any better now than it was 2 months ago, is the thing. And the difference is stark. Mayo actually said it (before he walked it back of course), that Maye beat him out in camp.

Mac Jones was a Day 1 starter, I don't think there was ever a game that he played where he looked as good as Maye has at times already. Maye's far from perfect, and I'm hardly a Team Maye 5eva kind of guy, but this is the first time we've seen a QB look like a modern pro QB since Brady was here.

Polk & Baker? Maye was a no-brainer, so we need to look at what happened after #3 to judge the draft. So far we've got a guy who runs his mouth about how great his hands are but can't catch the ball, and another guy who can't get on the field because he's so stupid he can't learn the playbook.
lol. Wallace and Robinson. Two guards they wanted to play tackle, and can play neither.

A 5-12 record might be the only thing that helps keep Mayo past year 1 at this point. Anything less than 4 wins and I think the seat is hot. Scalding hot if they don't get at least two more wins with the QB change. Losing out should guarantee his exit.

Bob fired Bill because he wanted to get better, but so far they are worse.

The statement was winning solved everything. 4-6 isn’t “winning”.
Sure it’s an improvement but to “solve” 1-6 you need to win at least 7 of the next 10.
Solving means we are a different team with a future, not we aren’t the worst team in the league, only close to it.

My fear is they catch a couple of teams with injuries or on a bad day, 3-4 more games and use that to justify they are heading the right direction with the new qb after a tough start. And say the plan is working

Prior the the draft I said 2 and 15 aside from incredible days by Drake I see nothing that tells me otherwise.

I was concerned about the defense and it’s much worse than I feared it would be.
I was optimistic about WR and aside from Boutte and Douglas it’s worse than I thought.
I was concerned about the Tight ends, let me elaborate we don’t have a guy who can steam roll a linebacker or hold their own against an end in pass protection or run support. we got Hooper a one way player who was never known for his blocking and he is regressing with age at receiving. But he’s Van Pelts guy.
I was concerned that Stevenson ls contract was too much for a player who’s not top 5 at his position or bring anything from a pass catching position, then I said ok they are building a culture with these overpays.
I told myself Mayo and Wolf know what they are doing they are signing players who want to be here.

Well we have more players arrested than wins.
we have Kendrick Bourne who nobody will say doesn’t love fun say that are team was out too late in London and it showed on the field.

Then Mayo said what Bourne said was taken out of context and he spoke to Bourne then when the reporter asked to elaborate Mayo ended the talk.

Yeah Mayo was a great player for us but players play and coaches coach.

Let’s hire a actual Head Coach please.

What 3 teams are we going to beat? We already lost to the 2 worst teams in the schedule, Miami and Jacksonville.
Maye's on his third game let's not hold the first 6 against him. The schedule has plenty of winnable games. We obviously aren't favorites in any of them but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Maye gets a couple of wins.

Starts this week LFG obviously the Jets are better they showed as much a few weeks ago. But they are still a mess, it's at home this time, and we got Maye this time too.

I will say that AVP also made some progress last week. He was using motion and Maye also looked better. So it makes me wonder if perhaps AVP is slowly growing as a playcaller as well. Maybe by end of year Mayo and AVP will have kinda figured it out. I don’t think there’s much hope for Covington though, he’s going the wrong way.

Mayo needs to win last 4 games out of 5 which means win both games against Buffalo to retain his job.

Very difficult . All coaches who got second chance showed upward trajectory

Mcvay was flawless - no comparison
Shanahan won last 5 games
Detroit was in game for all their last 5 games and just lost by a score or less in each of their games and were hyper competitive and Jared Goff was on upward swing
Flores also won a bunch towards the end

Flores was not a bad HC . He did not like tua and what ownership thrust on him, hence got the stick.

Sure Maye improves our chances but since he took over the running game has been horrible and the defense is falling apart.

It’s hard to out up 35-40 when you can’t run the ball or get back on the field and you have an OC that drives 58 in the left lane.

Flores had a lot of issues. He couldn’t build a staff and alienated his QB and couldn’t get along with the owner. He didn’t win either.

Yeah it's going to be hard but I got to pull for something as a fan and I don't think it's unreasonable just because it's difficult.

I don't get the Flores love, there has to be someone better than him out there.

The best thing to root for might be the house cleaning
